Saw this bike today with a small chain attached to the gear lever and the frame, also the brake pedal & frame the other side.

Neither my mates or I have ever seen it before, what’s it’s purpose?36dd1d19-73b9-43a1-8a89-2c2dd3e989d6.thumb.jpeg.09c0c1a493b23dc6ef3de6fee69f10c0.jpeg

So you don’t lose the lever when it falls off the splines. :seeya:

That was one of the theories, but then why wasn’t everything lock wired etc

Must be a pain carrying those blocks of wood around for the side stand.

I wonder if the chains hold the blocks of wood under the engine? I can't see any strap on the back that would hold them.

I'd of asked the bloke at the time tbh

It was parked up at Hoar Country Park bike meet on Wednesday morning, about 100 bikes and hence loads of people in the cafe etc, so unfortunately not much chance.

This is a view of a small section

It's for when riding off road in deep ruts.  It will not allow the pedals to bend far enough back that they break off when you straighten them at the side of the trail.

Quite a common practice back in the day.
