Any comments, good or bad about Carol Nash Insurance? It's renewal time and they've come in at £144 instead of my renewal notifocation  with Hastings at £256. One hundred and twelve quid is a lot less for what aprears to be the same cover.

My outlook on insurance companies is either, they're all a bunch of scumbags out to fleece you, will pass you to a 3rd party claims handle and wash their hands of it when you make a claim. OR you pay a lot more, but get the service you're paying for. At this price point (CH, Hastings and others) I'm anticipating the former.

Unfortunately carol Nash is just one of many "sister" companies from the same group.

Many insurance brokers present themselves with different names being run by the same people.

Go to a comparison site. Pick the one that suits you best for the best value and pray you never need them.

What they all have in common?

Bunch of greed b@stards...

That quote came from GoCompare, and CN weren't the cheapest! Someone called Express Insurance Service were £118 but I'd never heard of them.

Express is more car budget insurance than a bike specific one. Any good? Probably the same as car insurance and very clueless with bikes.

Where did you get that from? they don't do car insurance that I can see https://www.expressbikeinsurance.com/

Carol Nash used to be a specialist vintage bike insurer in the mists of time. Started out by insuring bikes from her dining room table.

Recognising that older, restored and cherished bikes and cars were usually cosseted and rarely ridden in anger, they offered very inexpensive fully comp insurance.  The caveat being that to qualify, the bike had to be a minimum of 15 years old, and you had to be a paid up member of an established vintage marque owners club.  I insured my initially, 15 year old CB900FA with them for years, and was a member of the VJMC.

They had a very good reputation.

Then Carol Nash Insurance was bought out by cheerless men wearing grey suits, insuring all comers.

The reputation tanked.... I will not touch carol nash insurance with a bargepole now.  All my vehicles are insured with one call insurance.  You get free breakdown cover with every fully comp policy.

I used to use CN year after year but with the switch from an old BMW to a new Honda they suddenly became extremely uncompetitive. And as my attitude towards insurance is that it’s just a tax on ownership I moved to the cheapest policy I could find. I would go back to them in a flash if they became competitive again. But that seems unlikely. They have premiums at two levels. The more expensive with all the bells and whistles is definitely the one to go for and if that’s the one you are looking at, then go for it.

i never claimed from them. I’ve made it my goal never to claim on insurance for minor things. Total loss or nothing, especially if the total loss is someone else’s fault. Then I’ll claim.

But my main reason for going back to them is their European cover. Which is important to me and my experience with them a number of years ago when I broke down in Austria. They went far beyond my expectations and I was back on the road the same day.

I have used Express Insurance Service a couple of times. But I've never had to claim. So that's the only time you really find out how good they are.

I’ve insured with CN many times over the years with cars and bikes, they flip from being very competitive to ridiculous in the space of 12 mths. Never had to claim so don’t know how good they are in that situation.

I would use them again if the price was right.

+1  Exaactly my findings.
