In the middle of Lidl

Long sleeved top.

Instant warmth when I put it on this morning.

Wish I'd bought two.

My (limited) experience of Lidl is that anything I might be interested in has always sold out. Either that or the toilets are closed.

But the bakery is always so good.

I'm an XL, and I got the last but one.. So yes, you're right.

Thermals also work really well in the summer heat. which on the face of it makes no sense. Though its best if they're white (to reflect the sun)

they work so well because they are non-absorbent, so sweat evaporates very quickly which is cooling. I always wear them on tour regardless of how hot it is as they are so much more comfortable than plain cotton, which rapidly becomes sodden with sweat.

you see very similar gear being sold in bike clothing shops and at a very high price (normally) - often described as 'technical base layers'. don't be fooled, this is to all intents and purposes exactly the same thing, though it's often thinner and a bit sexier looking.

After riding around with the top on today, I can confirm that it works!  I was nice and toasty.

For anyone on the Wirral, the Wallasey Lidl (On Leasowe Road) had plenty of them in both Grey and Black and loads of sizes.  At least, they did yesterday and today when I went back for another one.

Best £6.99 I've spent.

I'm off out bright and early tomorrow, at which point I'll be going past the Lidl I went to today.  When I go past I'll swing in and, because you have been so helpful and supportive, if they have an XL in stock, I'll pick one up for you and get it sent off to you gratis.  Just my way of giving a little bit back to a community that has really helped me.

Plus it gives me an excuse to go to Lidl besides getting a Croissant.

Mate, that's really decent of you, but absolutely no need.

Just been in and they have no more XL's!  I have picked up a Large though if that'll do you.  If not, I'll squeeze in to it myself.

Yeah, that'll be a little tight, I had trouble getting into the XL 🤣 Although, I think they're supposed to be tight.

Sorry matey, don't wish to appear ungrateful.

No worries.  I'll squeeze in to it myself and try to not cry at my ever increasing middle-aged waistline. 😅

Over the years I've bought cheap thermals for a variety of purposes and I've also bought more expensive stuff made from merino wool and silk. Generally the better quality stuff is more pleasant to wear, less stinky and maybe warmer although that is difficult to judge; it also usually lasts longer. That said some stuff is insanely expensive and not worthwhile really and an awful lot depends on your budget and what other demands there are on your funds.

After a certain age, waistline becomes safety feature 😁
