Hi All,

I've got a Kawasaki W800. I hate the look of the yellow plate and I know you are not allowed back and white plates, I have seen other new bikes with them on and wondered how much trouble you might get in if you put one on ? Points and a fine ( not worth it) or a polite telling off and told to swap plates back.

  Cheers.

It'll depend on the copper that pulls you over.  It can lead to a fine, but not sure if the law was recently changed to also incur points?  If the copper is ok you may be lucky enough to get away with a caution, but I wouldn't bank on it.

I had a tin plate on the Thunderbird when I bought it. Right colour and everything, but didn't fancy the agro, so changed it to a plastic one.

Its anything from a ticking off or a Traffic Offence Report TOR to a Vehicle defect Rectification Notice or if you really piss the copper off its up to a 1000 quid. If you continue to use said plate the DVLA can recind the plate for that vehicle.

I'm afraid the friendly chat and word of "advice" are a thing of the past.

Shame, but that's the way of the world.

Indeed, and a ticket for an illegal number plate is an easy way for a young copper who's under pressure from his sergeant to achieve his targets to get his numbers up.

Going back to "advice", in the past it was just that and unless the policeman that stopped you was a local, the odds of him ever seeing you again were slim, plus that advice never recorded. Nowadays if the police stop you there are forms to be filled in & records kept, particulalry if the stop was for something that was otherwise reportable. The next time you're stopped and you've chosen not to heed their advice, that record will pop up on their screen and this time you will get a ticket.

I got nicked on the M5 a few years back for an undersized plate with no British standard markings. I wasn't speeding and the bike was I a1 condition. It was a ten pound fine, but that was about 30 years ago.

f**k it, fit the plate and see what happens. Not the end of the world is it. Are you doing regular 12o'clockers on the thing?

They still seem to drive around in 'rraris sans front plates round these 'ere humble parts. I suppose if you in a 'rrari you're not really humble mind whatever the local economy.

Lifes still for living isn't it? f**k it. 1950s plate style makes you happy? Do it. Nihilism baby. I believe in nothing.

If you believe that you believe in nothing, does that mean you believe in something?
