Mold Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Hello everyone, I'm hoping to get some advice. I have purchased a new horn and relay. The one I bought is very similar to a 'sound bomb' and to get it to work properly i.e. loud but legal, the relay needs a 12v power source to the battery. I have a Kawasaki J300 and I've taken the front fairing and the seat and storage bin off before for servicing but I didn't notice an easy way that I could thread a wire through so is there an easier way to get the 12V I need? Thanks Quote

Hairsy Posted April 17 Posted April 17 For routing a wire without taking too much apart, I use an old fashioned metal coat hanger. Unravel it and put a couple of turns of insulating tape around one end to stop it scratching things. Then, through a combination of pushing and bending the coat hanger, route it from the start to the end of where you want the wire to run. Then tape the end of the wire to the end of the coat hanger and pull it back. 2 1 Quote
Mold Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 Thanks for your reply, that was my first idea but I was wondering if there was a way to get 12v from the front of the bike without removing the seat etc. I was wondering if I could split a positive wire from the lights as they're always on or would that blow a fuse when I press the horn and it draws more power from the lighting. Stu Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Simply put you need to take it from the battery as any other wiring may not be big enough to take the load and could pop a fuse 1 Quote
S-Westerly Posted April 18 Posted April 18 I had a sound bomb on last bike and it was simply a matter of removing oem horn and fitting new one. I'm assuming your bike does have an existing hrn? Quote

S-Westerly Posted April 18 Posted April 18 I never had that problem. I guess it depends on the original set up. Looking at changing horn on my current bike as its somewhat pathetic. A feeble peep. Unfortunately it's not so easy to do as it was on the Multistrada where it was literally plug and play. Quote
