Troy Posted Sunday at 06:39 Posted Sunday at 06:39 (edited) Wasn’t really sure what section to post this in…. I've attended the GP all weekend at Silverstone this year…. Compared to last years, this event is pants (excluding the racing of course ) Monster Energy are not here which means no free drinks, no extreme sports on show. Hardly any display stands or merch stands. The numbers in attendance is shocking!! Most seating areas are closed. I know the GP will never be as big as F1, but I can’t help but feel Silverstone couldn’t care less if the GP never came back. Unless something changes, I can’t see the GP being hosted at all in the UK after 2026. I know in comparison to other circuits, it’s expensive and there also isn’t a local rider to support, but I really hope next years has more to offer. It may very well be its last one! Thoughts all?! Hairsy Posted Sunday at 06:55 Posted Sunday at 06:55 (edited) Have they gone crazy with the costs? I’ve attended F1 for many years with friends. We camp at Woodlands and have grandstand seats that we book every year. Cost of the weekend has gone from around £400 to around £900 in recent years. I love the event but this will be my last year. im going to the Le Mans 24 hour in a couple of weeks on the bike. Total cost including entry, camping, tunnel and 2 AirBnB stopovers is around £250. Troy Posted Sunday at 07:18 Author Posted Sunday at 07:18 Tickets for the whole event was £190, all three days included and included dedicated seating. Roving seats wasn’t an option this year. Cost of hotel was £120 if booked early. Two nights Full tank of fuel in van £100ish Food £150ish if your eating out and getting meal deals where you can. I haven’t been going long enough to say if this is a lot really?! It was £6.90 for an ice cream I’ve spent about £200 on some merch but this is optional. 1 Quote
ColinWB Posted Sunday at 09:51 Posted Sunday at 09:51 This is my first MotoGP, here with my son who is a bug Ducati fan so we’re in the Ducati fan stand, been here since Friday, camping at Cartmel Field. Can’t remember exactly how much I paid but around £350 for tickets plus camping for both of us rings a bell. Friday and Saturday were very quiet, I was surprised by the closed stands the almost empty open ones. We hadvroving tickets for Friday, deficated sears for Saturday and Sunday. I bought 3 cubes of fudge yesterday to keep my sugars up - £6! I was chuffed they were selling Estrella Galicia but £7.70 a pint - definitely not Inverclyde prices . The practices, qualifying and racing have been brilliant, much better than watching on tv. Quote
Fish Posted Sunday at 15:25 Posted Sunday at 15:25 I feel the issue they have and after watching Suzi/Neil and Silvan commenting on the weather and how changeable it is, what do they expect for May in the UK! also being a bank holiday when 9 times out of 10 it's going to rain. Looking at the costs above I dont feel that are that far away for what I have paid in Valencia or Estoril for WSBK (and that really lacked atmosphere!) Food and drinks are always a premium from the stalls, but when they stop you from bringing in your own what can you do. People are in general tightening their belts with cost of living. IMHO Quote
S-Westerly Posted Sunday at 20:03 Posted Sunday at 20:03 Bit crap if you can't even bring in your own sarnies. Quote
ColinWB Posted Monday at 18:18 Posted Monday at 18:18 I took my own packed lunch in each day, bag was searched, they didn’t mention the food. Quote
rob m Posted Monday at 18:46 Posted Monday at 18:46 The problem is Silverstone. It's an awful track to watch MotoGP, it may be ok for F1 fans (not that I'd know, I'd rather insert pins into my eyes that watch F1) but not for MotoGP. Donington was king. I watched Doohan and Rossi win at Donington literally yards away from where I was sitting. You are miles away from the track at Silverstone. I hate it there. The added costs and restrictions only reinforce that dislike for SIlverstone. It's almost like they planned it that way. Quote
MiguelThePug Posted Tuesday at 03:07 Posted Tuesday at 03:07 I think it’s a combination of all the above. The interest in MotoGP here compared to Europe is much smaller, the cost here is prohibitive so nobody remotely local is going to think ‘I might check out that MotoGP thing I keep seeing all the advanced road closure signs for etc’, people who might then turn into fans. The track isn’t the best for spectating, but I understand why it’s there and none of the other options will change to meet the safety requirements when hardly anyone turns up to watch it.. but even as a big MotoGP/WSBK/BSB fan, I’ve given it a miss the past 2 years based on the cost. I went to Misano last year for £370 all in (flights, hotel, 3 day ticket) and I’ve just got back from the Le Mans round 2 weeks ago, the atmosphere in both Italy and France was next level! And I’m pretty sure it was around £300 all in with ferry, fuel etc and I was there for 5 days! I’m part of the problem but why pay so much to go to silverstone when you can have a holiday for the same price or less? I fear as someone said above that they don’t really care if they lose it after 2026 and it would be a real shame if that were the case. if not, they need to offer free camping and really slash the ticket cost. I’m not a businessman but surely halving the entry cost and getting double the attendance makes more sense than what’s going on now? Quote
