That could also be true. Most of them cumbrian folks don't know what they are anyway, too busy with their tractors. How very dare you! Gaaaaaaaaaar! Hang on, i'm from Yorkshire...... -

The Gilpin Bridge Inn is nice. Good food, off road parking, and good beers. You can't walk anywhere from it, cos it's in the middle of no-where, but if you're on the bike/in the car it's only a 10-15 minute ride/drive to Windermere and you're in the heart of the Lakes. -
Fantastic turn out this morning for the protest ride from Barrow to Carlisle. I rode the first half an hour (pack of maybe 100-200 bikes headed up by learners) then had to split and come to work. Here's just a couple of pics from earlier. They were hoping for 500 bikes by the time they got to Carlisle, I'd say judging by these taken at 10am at the start of the run that they should manage it! http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/7718/dscf0066fw6.jpg http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/2809/dscf0067vf2.jpg http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/5632/dscf0074sw4.jpg

The weather's still looking stonkingly good for tomorrow so if anyone's still out at 4.30pm when i finish work and near Windermere, i should be on the bike.

There's plenty of hotels around, or would you want B&B's? Take a look at this one http://www.stockghyllcottage.co.uk/ It's just outside Bowness on Windermere and even though they'll charge you full room rate for single occupancy it'll still be cheaper than a travelodge or hotel. (and you get breakfast....big plus for me!) The last weekend in July is the Air Show weekend so Bowness will probably be busy, but then, so will every weekend in The Lakes in summer. All being well i'll be off that weekend too. The roads are nice, plenty of places to overtake if you get stuck behind some old chuffer with a caravan. -
Haha! Me and Simon (Katana650) made it out for a ride today, from Kendal to Keswick then back over Kirkstone pass. Here's a few piccies from the top of Kirkstone Pass. http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/8269/kirkstoneapril08dk1.jpg http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/3240/kirkstoneapril081hn0.jpg http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/1337/kirkstoneapril082ye9.jpg http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/4671/kirkstoneapril083ke4.jpg

OK, don't mean to piddle on the parade, but as the weather this morning seems to be doing that for me- http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/3906/uk30aprilhd7.jpg Been raining most of the night, and it's gonna rain most of the day n'all. In fact, I think we should stop organising rides for Wednesdays, as they always seem to attract the naff weather.

That's a 27 litre Supercharged V12!!!!!!!!!! That would be a nice bike!

Used to go out with a lass who's dad ran a Norton dealer in Wakefield, and some of the bikes he rode were miiiiint, but even so, couldn't help voting 'In-line 4'.... ....for bikes of course. As i work in a car dealer I would have to say V8 for cars.... 8)

That is a major bu-hugger mate. You can get your own back at the weekend when i'm working! If it's even half decent i'm still on for this ride. There is a weather report depicting a large band of rain travelling from west to east across the country in the morning, but should be clear by about 11am, which will still give me time (easily) to get to The Sun for half 12. Anyone else (i know techno is) still up for this? Anyone planning on meeting me over this side of the country for the ride to Harrogate?
-
Could well be up for that matey, it's my weekend off.

Can't make it wednesday nights bud, work til 6, home at 6.30, kitted up and bike out for 7, southport would be another hour 20 ish, so lets say half 8 of an evening by the time i get there. Would be up for a ride on a weekend down there though, make a day of it. Dragolith, Jen and Katana650 are up my way too, so could sort summat out. A6 is a nice road down to your neck of the woods. Let us know if you plan owt. Jadey.

Ok, the weather looks OK for Thursday, so the plan is this: I'll be riding from Kendal past Devils Bridge (may stop if the brew van is there) down the A65 then A59 towards Harrogate. Meeting Techno & anyone else who fancies it at The Sun Inn, Fewston at 12.30 for some food. Then riding to Hawes via Ripon and Masham (poss stops in Masham and/or Hawes for brews). I'll then be riding back home to Kendal either through Sedbergh or down to Ingleton and back along the A65. All are welcome, and the more the better!
