  1. I'm surprised none of you have mentioned it, you Commie bast*rds.
  2. Ah, so suddenly its acceptable to abandon a vehicle in a very dangerous place, and justify any resulting accident as other peoples problem?? Even though it would likely ruin the rim, you have the option to limp your car off the motorway... but you chose the option that most endangers other road user's lives, instead of small financial inconvenience of a new wheel. (you wanted a debates!) You are not "Abandoning a vehicle in a dangerous place", you are following the advice given by both the police and the Highway Code - get out of the vehicle and get behind the crash barrier. If someone else ignores the Road Traffic Act and drives onto the hard shoulder or falls asleep behind the wheel because they are driving when they shouldn't be then it's their problem, not yours.
  3. I can't see how the gear lever could have damaged the right hand side of the engine as it is situated on the left.
  4. Same here. Provided you match your speed to that of the traffic on the M/Way you'll always find a gap to slot into, if you can't you've probably F'd up. As for carrying out a repair on the hard shoulder, no thanks. AA and RAC vehicles are lit like Christmas trees when they are parked on the hard shoulder, yet try asking them how many of their vehicles have been hit and drivers killed over the years and the answer will shock you. Statistically the hard shoulder is the most dangerous part of the motorway, there are more fatalities there than on any of the driving lanes.
  5. Only if someone substitutes a hand grenade for the ball.
  6. Thanks techno , I now have access Don't forget, Friday it's your turn in the barrel.
  7. And how many of us, if all our past deeds were opened up to examination haven't committed an imprisonable offence at some time in our lives? Quite often the only difference between those on the outside and the ones on the in are the latter have been caught, the former haven't. Those inside are being kept out of circulation, that should be enough without everyone salivating at the lips about how cruelly they should be treated while they're there.
  8. The problem with the death penalty would be the reluctance of juries to convict on a charge of murder, particularly after a high profile miscarriage of justice such as the conviction of the Birmingham Six, to name one of many cases. Even the clearest case can be muddied by a clever defence barrister and this was known to be a problem while execution was still on the statute books. Modern forensics are by no means foolproof either, because your DNA might be found at the scene of a crime does not mean it was you who actually did it. And as pointed out, the cost of appeals etc can be higher than locking someone up for life.
  9. Cheapest way to install UPVC windows - Measure your existing windows, go to B&Q or whoever and order them yourself then find a local guy to fit them. These specialist companies are just piss takers.
  10. My main fuse blew 400 miles ago, been ok since. Sometimes they just do.
  11. Back in the day some scrote nicked my Mk1 Facelift Capri. The worst thing that ever happened was plod finding it one week before the insurance were due to pay out. No battery, oil light staying on at tickover, spare and tools missing. If it's nicked it'll be trashed.
  12. You don't need a five and a half year sentence to deter other teachers from doing the same thing, Bex. For people who are from basically respectable stratas of society loss of career and the shame of seeing the Sun headline, "Paedo teacher shagged me senseless" is enough to make the vast majority think twice about sampling the goods. From what various female newspaper columnists have written in the wake of this case teacher/pupil affairs used to be widespread, I'd bet in the climate we have now they are the exception.
  13. Probably because shagging an attractive girl in a school uniform is the secret fantasy of many a sleazy tabloid hack. They like to disguise the fact with mock outrage.
  14. If she'd been caught coming out of Dixons with a mobile phone hidden in her pocket her pleading that she's only fifteen would have cut no ice, so yourself and Techno have a good point. It does take two to tango.
  15. For the moment. Two years (which is what he'll probably serve) is an awful long time when you're 15. She'll be going out with her mates and highly likely meet someone else in that time, or maybe just grow out of him.
  16. It's not whether he was wrong or not - we all know he was, he crossed the line and for that there are consequences of which he was well aware. But five years in the slammer, FFS where's the justification in that? There are some real dangerous b'stads walking out of court every day with non custodial sentences and they waste a cell on this guy.
  17. Five and a half years, has the world gone mad? I realise this is a controversial subject, but there must be millions of women out there whose first sexual experience was as a pre-sixteen year old and invariably with someone older who have no regrets whatsoever. Now I realise there are other circumstances here and the guy crossed a line he shouldn't have, including running away with her even though she apparently was going to go on her own anyway, but if he deserved a term that long how much should Stuart Hall have got? Not to mention repeat burglars and muggers who walk free with a community sentence countless times before finally being banged up, often for months rather than years. And can somebody explain to the media exactly what a paedophile is? Even the quality papers are jumping on that bandwagon because they are too scared of the new puritan witch hunt to do otherwise.
  18. Not on British Eurosport either, according to the Radio Times.
  19. Make the most of this years series unless you've got subscription TV or BT broadband, The BBC has lost the rights for next year.
  20. Repeated tomorrow night (Sunday), ITV4. It wasn't bad, much better than that Two Wheels Good rubbish they used to show on Men & Motors a few years ago. Next Wednesday's episode is about Cafe Racers.
  21. Could have been worse. He could have forgotten to do his flies up and the local hottie could have walked by in a tiny skirt and a plunge neckline while he was kneeling by the chain.
  22. Supply and demand. The learner laws have meant there is a surplus of buyers for 125s so prices are at a premium.

    A question

You can go through a red light if you have reasonable excuse (such as letting an emergency vehicle through) and it is safe to do so. However, with cameras now taking over from real policemen and and operating on a shoot first and issue a fixed penalty then putting the onus on the driver to prove his or her innocence the bus driver probably thought it wasn't worth the aggro.
  24. Haven't you got an airgun? I shoot mine.
