  1. If it starts while bump starting then surely that means the battery is dead? It has a kick start and it wont start using that Hmmmm, didn't notice that I should've read it properly first
  2. No problem tango I just assumed that bump starting would generate the power needed to start it. Obviously not
  3. If it starts while bump starting then surely that means the battery is dead? If the battery is really flat then there won't be enough voltage to get a spark from the ignition circuit.....and if the battery is sh*gged it can drag down the voltage coming out of the Reg/Rec-alternator...... Ah well you live and learn Miss meg, don't pay attention to me
  4. If it starts while bump starting then surely that means the battery is dead?
  5. how do you bump start a bike? run with it and keep trying to start it? I'll try that when I can get a friend to give me a hand (don't want to drop her).. Left her sitting for a 10 days max. She's been left sitting for longer over the winter without being started and was fine. Tango, thank you I will try that soon as my mum comes by with a battery charger on weds.. Erm you put it into second gear, hold the clutch in get a bit of a run with it and let go of the clutch. I'm not sure on how long petrol can sit in the carb before going off, maybe someone else could say.
  6. Try bump starting that usually rules out wether it's a dead battery or not. How long exactly had you left it sitting?
  7. So, after sucking up to my mother she has decided to give an interest free loan and the bike has got the go ahead to get fixed... Yayyyyyyyy Hopefully getting done as soon as possible
  8. Buses are waaaay more demoralising than trains! Trains you're actually getting somewhere fast and are comfortable and around generally a nicer-caliber of people. Buses are generally full of stinking, horrible people, tw@ttish teens and young kids being larey and talking/playing loudly on their phones, drunks, chavs, old people bitching & moaning, homeless people or generally stinking horrible people in dirty clothes etc etc. And there's obv something about me that says "Oh, hi weirdo - please come sit next to me and tell me about your immense life story that is blatently 90% lies that I don't care about!". Tho tbf I've had the occasional nice chat with some people on the bus - my favourite convo was when I was on crutches carrying my new motorbike helmet with a nice old man who told me all about his biking days. Used to haaaaaaate getting buses, did so for many years and had to get a good few while I was off my bike...which annoyed me even more cos I was having to sit with people as described for about £6.50 for a return journey when I only wanted to go 10 miles into Cambridge...and 140/150 miles costs me a tenner on my 125! Oh, and to get to the hospital that is less than 10 mins away by motorbike took me 2.5 HOURS to get to EACH WAY! (bus times didn't coencide with eah other so had to wait in a cafe inbetween)! So I ended up paying £40 for hospital trips by taxi on many occasions (they charged me loads more cos they were coming out of Cambridge to our random village). Anyway, rant over; what are ya hoping to get? It's amazing how quick you can pull some dosh together when desperate and try reeeeeally hard. When Ollie & I got engaged I was still almost £2k into my student overdraft & managed to put aside £3-400 a month despite earning much less than I do now (not that I earn a lot, but you get what I mean). I was always bad at managing money before getting married tho. Selling stuff on fleabay and Gumtree was a big help too . Good luck with the scrimping & saving - you'll get there I'm hoping to save money for a new engine in my bike because I was idiotic and didn't check oil levels I have nothing I want to sell, it all has its use so I can't/won't sell it And the money I spend on trains I could put towards my bike I need 600 in a week well less to give then time to fit it, then money for the rally haha, may have to go next year
  9. Really hope I find £600 soon, really wanted to go :'( I hate my hour and a half bus journey each morning so the trains are a no go

Thinking the exact same thing. Searched through user's posts and 98% are asking for help and there's nothing wrong with that but perhaps give something back to the forum.

    wiring

I had to hire a translator to read that. Anyway It's going to be hard for people to make a diagnostic when there's no pictures or videos. Try checking the fuses or battery, start simple.
  12. Seems easy enough Well I say 'easy' Thanks for your help its greatly appreciated
  13. Right well now that's cleared out the way How hard is it to replace an engine? Like do I have to notify the DVLA, change the v5 etc or is it as 'simple' as taking out the old and in with the new?
  14. I've put oil in it and there's still nothing from it, there's a video on that thread I linked to above with the sound it makes, it's a hard one to describe:(
  15. It says it holds 1.15 litres on the site. If the engine had bearing and crank shaft problems which would all need replacing surely the bike wouldn't turn over? When I put my finger over the spark plug hole it still blew my finger off the hole. Sorry, I think I'm grasping at straws but I think my bike is absolutely f*cked and I can't afford the 600 it needs so unless I win this weeks lottery I won't be biking for a long, long, long time.
  16. Thanks for your replies It wasn't completely dry when I drained the remaing oil there was at least quarter of a pint left, sorry I drained it into a pint glass
  17. Does it not seen a bit weird to you though that he's just assuming it'll need a new engine? He's not stripped it?
  18. First off I'd like to apologise for any bad spelling, grammar etc, I'm on my phone Secondly, I don't know where this would topic would go. To the problem, my bike as some of you know is basically f*cked and I took it to the garage and they said its going to need a new engine. He's come to this conclusion without even stripping the engine just by listening to it, lolwut?! He said it'll cost 600 with fitting. And if he was to rebuild it it'd cost 900 I mean where do these figures come from 0.o Does that sound about right or am I bring screwed? The thread with what happened is here; viewtopic.php?f=5&t=48121 The video is in the comments further down, thanks for you time guys and gals
  19. I want this god damn bike... Holy crap that is B E A utiful.
  20. I tried to get a good view of inside the spark plug hole but its in such an awkward position I couldn't get a clear view so I didn't get to see inside it unfortunately
  21. Sorry stu
  22. Yes it was in the second gear with clutch out, when I put the clutch in the noise stops. One thing I didn't mention was it got power washed the day before, could that of done anything?
  23. Thanks a lot for the reply tango I'll take the top end off and check around but I daren't go any further because I'm only asking for trouble. What is a dropped valve by the way? Stu I can't hear the knocking with the electric start but tango can :/ I think I'm going deaf in my old age:/ perhaps watch the video stu? It explains it a lot better than what I can type
  24. I'll pick one up as soon as then, I've done the hob trick, numerous times still get a bright purple spark:/ You mentioned testing the chain before, how do I that?
