  1. Fan Bay was a defensive battery over the channel to sink those pesky German boats - there team are in the process of uncovering a couple of sound mirrors at the mo which are extremely unique. The whole system is in extraordinary condition with graffiti from the original engineers and people stationed there. I think they've opened up the plant room which is also in great condition. There are some deep plotting rooms around and other bits about to have a look at too (don't think they're public yet... ). The Ramsgate tunnels comprise the old Railway tunnel to the seafront and a spur to the old scenic railway. Towards the seafront end, there's the smaller tunnels (second pic) coming off the railway tunnel that are part of an interconnected system that runs all around the town (about 2-3 miles depending which plans you look at - I think they're on my photobucket). These were shelters for the locals and also served as subterranean connections between civic centres. For more info, click the links. They aren't far from each other so can easily be done in a day and really are worth a look if you're in the area. I'm happy to throw a few pointers for anyone interested in seeing some less public stuff too. I gave a load of AV equipment to the Ramsgate project a while back for their interactive section so if a group want to get together for a nosey-poke about, I'll see if we can rig up something a bit better than the standard tour.
  2. Al is (naturally) correct. I'd be tempted to use a blob on thread lock too, just in case.
  3. I dunno what the attraction is Joeman, I've liked underground stuff for as long as I can remember. There's plenty of bits and bobs in your neck of the woods too.
  4. Hi guys, Just wanted to bring a bit of notice to the WW2 stuff that's being opened up along the coast in Kent. The Urbex scene is really strong in the area - exploring loads of the old shelters and military installations and it's great to see them finally, one by one, be opened up to the public. Last year the Ramsgate tunnels were opened Ramsgate Tunnel Project and this year it's Fan Bay in Dover Fan Bay Deep Shelter I had to crawl about to find and access these in years past and can't recommend them highly enough, they are well worth a visit if you're in the area, especially as you can get in there in a somewhat more civilised manner now. 5. I just got some of those Stahlbus oil drain valve jobs... You could permanently fix one in the sump and not have to worry about getting it out. Plus, they make oil changes a piece of piss.
  6. I would... Follow the dream. Be mindful that you'll have to work around power restrictions but having said that, I had a 900cc sports bike when I was 18 that was "restricted". The only time I dropped that was in the snow so it's not a rule that first bikes always end up thrown down the road on every corner. Just avoid giving it the beans the second you get on it.

    breakdown

Jiffy fuel filter, air lock in the tank, mystical faries... More likely the former.
  8. Alright dudes. Does anyone know if this place is any good? I'm passing by on the way to Newquay on Monday and I'd like to treat my lovely new wife to a new Mulberry bag. Bicester Village is also on the way but it can be a bit hit and miss as the Mulberry store is quite small. Any info would be great! Cheers, Fro.
  9. Nice. Where abouts are you going? We're off to Newquay on Monday...
  10. Yes, I use them quite a bit.
  11. Why use a rolling road when there's a static one outside?
  12. Does it perchance look like an entirely different model? The offer is still there if you need a lend of some tools or if anything needs welding up once Bob has had a go with his grinder.

    engine swap

Hello mate. Luckily, my loom is fully ninja compatible so I was alright with the original. What's your problems? There are loads of people on here who are tip-top with mechanical stuff so throw it out there and someone will be able to help out.
  14. Nice write up Ollie - seems like a loads of stuff went wrong when you see it all in one place! At least you'll know it's properly sorted when it's done.
  15. Neither. Firstly, check that the carb is properly seated and that there are no air leaks. To check for leaks, start the bike and let it idle then spray a bit of carb cleaner/WD40/Easy Start/similar around the carb mounting point (not in the carb). If the revs pick up you have a leak. If the revs stay the same and it still won't rev then turn the idle screw until it's fully in (don't screw it hard - just so it stops turning) then turn it back out 2 full turns. Start it up and see if it revs. If it dies, turn the idle screw out 1/4 of a turn then try reving it again. If it dies, give it a 1/4 turn out and repeat to a max of 2 more full turns out. If you don't have any luck, return the screw to 2 turns out and this time screw it in 1/4 turn each time. Let us know how it goes.
  16. Word.

I dunno, but I've got streetfighter in my DNA. Hiiiii-YA!
  18. Bloody he'll Stu, you're always beating me to it! You haven't met the OH have you?
  19. Yeah, it's safe so long as you put the petrol version in. It's worth a punt but don't hold your breath.
  20. Ha! South African car alarm. Although the bloke is clearly an anus, I don't think it was a genuine attempt to nab his keys - more just to show what a big boy he is in front of his cronies. He doesn't try to turn the key on his first attempt and on his second attempt doesn't even touch them. Still well worthy of a slap and definite evidence of racial discrimination with intent.
  21. I think you should clean your carbs properly! I've used most of those products in the past and exactly 0 of them worked! Nothing will beat a proper carb clean.
  22. Abba you say?... Never heard of them.
  23. I've been up to my old tricks with the welder. After a steel delivery I got cracking on this little number: http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx246/Mr_Fro/IMAG0190.jpg With the extend pole thing: http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx246/Mr_Fro/IMAG0220.jpg http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx246/Mr_Fro/IMAG0222.jpg It's really nice and sturdy - it handled the bike with me bouncing around on top of it no bother. Just need to make a little add on to rotate the bike frame so both wheels are off the ground... I got a couple of Stahlbus oil drain valves direct from Germanyland the other day (way cheaper than buying in the UK) so that'll be the first thing to do with my new stand.

    how to run??

Not a good idea - you should replace like for like (if it's the correct one in the first place).

    Bike Completely Dead

Could be in first but you'd probably have some dash lights when you turned on the ignition. Might well be a flat battery. Has it got a kick start?
