If it's a manual choke on a carbed bike the ECU only really governs spark timing. So unless it was causing it to advance suddenly (which can increase cylinder temperature and might explain why it was so hot) then it has to be partly a fuelling issue as well. It's an issue on the engines here at work can suffer, if the ignition is advanced too much you risk melting spark plugs. Unsure if it would cause the 500-700rpm leap even though it's a small jump really. But what I've suggested would be quite an oddball problem to occur so wouldn't take it too seriously. Eliminate easy problems first.
  3. What if it was automatic OR manual so you could still do it yourself?
  4. Is this the beginning of the robot uprising? My last car had lights that came on when you pressed stuff and went off when you stopped pressing stuff We are edging towards automatic cars that drive you to your destination. Imagine a system that will solve most congestion issues, and be safer for bikes. For manually driven vehicles the system will just play by the rules of the road, and have some settings for filtering in with manually driven cars/bikes. Will also hurt the government as speed cameras will become more or less obsolete, and in my eyes that's a beautiful thing
  5. Didn't think the DRL's would be on a canbus setup! It's doable, just you have to isolate the v+ and 0v cores and splice a resistor to them. But if it's computer controlled, rather than relay controlled, then getting them dimmed down via a plug and play is the way to go. Are LED headlights self levelling? Or can they be adjusted like regular headlights?
  6. My Merc has auto hold too. But I have the distronic option. When it sits in traffic, It doesn't hold the brake lights on. It's holding the brake "on it's own" and will move off on it's own too. Only slowing down does it put them on. Infact, I think it puts them on if it's the last car in the queue. Until another joins. I'll test this If you get too much grief about the DRL LED's, their power supply will be a simple wire in, wire out set up. Just splice it and run a fairly big resistor in parallel. That will dim them down a smidge

I've seen a few carbed bikes with an auto-choke. Really simple thing tied to the coolant/oil temperature so just wondered as the old GSXR had FI with a manual carb, and Hondas CBR got FI but kept the really simple autochoke, which was more hassle than it was worth. I've never had a run in with a ZX6R so just running through ideas. The bike has pre-existing fueling problems we know of so could be that and something else has gone wrong too which is confusing the diagnosis. If just the oil temp light I'd have all my money on the cooling, but the other lights suggest something else going on so I'm a little torn with what it is

If you could have had these issues a month or two again I would have lived 10 miles away and sorted it. Revs hopping around suggests fuelling at first, but with warning lights and it cutting out as well as running hot without fans kicking in suggests an electrical problem as the engine isn't being effectively managed. This can be caused by a number of things. If coolant and oil levels are fine with no obvious leaks anywhere you shorten the list down to electrical. Electrically the revs could be bothered by the ECU, especially if the bike has an auto-choke. The warning lights all coming on point at an ECU problem as it's unlikely you'd get the whole lot on at once. If the brain of the bike starts to get a bit senile, it all goes pear shaped fast. But that's just a theory, it could be a cooling system that is having a knock on effect. First check the electrical connections on the bike, connectors, wire condition and even just being really simple; unplug the ECU, spray some contact cleaner in there and let it dry before putting it back in. And see what happens. I've seen bikes go bonkers over a loose connection.
  9. I think back in the 60s you had the mods and rockers which brought a more gang style image of bikers. You had a bit of a bad boy image if you had certain bikes back then. Now on the other hand it has changed quite significantly, the sport has broadened and the image has shifted from being a bad boy/girl on a bike to more just being seen as a "biker". Or at least from my point of view that's how it appears. It's much more an every mans hobby now. There's a group for everyone so bikers image has changed quite a bit. Particularly with charity causes where rideouts are now the norm.

Looks good! I'm banned from growing facial hair, not that I'd achieve more than that of a 14 year old. I support the charity however and I'm especially fond of it seeing as I've watched prostate cancer take a family member. Page isn't loading properly at work so will try again when I get home

This sounds very much like an electrical problem. For a start, a simple short circuit could cause this issue. Check the wiring loom for any bits where it may have rubbed through, and then look closely if it touches the frame. A bike of mine once did that and the speedo went from 55mph to 160, the rev meter died, all the warning lights were on and the bike shuddered to a halt. Check the earthing points as well, or it could be a failed ECU.
  13. Yeah, the owners of green Kawasaki ZX6r made between 2005 and 2006 are regarded as gods over here. Perhaps by 17 year olds. For big brands, BMW supersport bikes, Ducati sports bikes, MV Agusta sports bikes, and any heavily customised (done properly) bikes draw the crowds around them. If you go with an ugly duckling I've seen people think it's amazing the small crowd it gets. Then you go out and people are calling it every bad thing under the sun
  14. Ace café is the London hub for bikers. I used to go there a lot on the weekly Friday meet. You'd get all shapes and sizes of bikes turning up. It has meets for specific groups as well on certain days. But it's possibly the most famous London biker bar.

If you remember my last garage project I had the leisure batteries. I used a raspberry pi as a power usage monitor, and switching device to flick between batteries when they reached 20% capacity. It was a good idea but as I'd used those LED strips and then focused on wiring them in a way to minimise losses I was getting 30+ hours for 80% discharge anyway so it seemed overkill. Snazzy piece of kit though, it's very flexible. I saw one being used to monitor a house's power consumption.

  17. Mods - Move to pitstop. Sounds like a slow puncture to me, perhaps made worse by the cold as it causes rubber to shrink, which if it's down to a poor fit of the tyre will be the cause. Get some hot water and washing up liquid mixed up, paint it on the back tyre with it filled with air. Look for the bubbles to form. Paint it on thin as you may be looking for really small bubbles leaking out of the same place. This will confirm if you have a slow puncture.

Sounds like a plan, me, you and potentially Ricky co-op on Halo 5. Team TMBF Battlefront is quite tiresome after half an hour of solo multiplayer. It's good, but it is clearly better when you have friends on the headset you can jabber to while you're busying wiping out the enemy team, or being wiped out.

Yep I'm also looking for someone to run through co-op on Halo 5 with me. So far I've asked Ricky as I need someone to test something. The final boss fight with Chief is widely considered impossible on legendary mode unless you get lucky. As I didn't have 3 hours to burn, I did what any sane person would do. Found a way to access parts of the level you shouldn't, and then find a way to trigger the mission end. I have GTA 5, although I stopped playing it when the heists came along as I play solo, but I couldn't unlock vehicles without doing the heists. The worst bit of course being you were sat for literally an hour waiting for people to join, just so they could muck it all up for you 3 minutes in. I quite like blowing other people up... Or throwing cars at them with the bobcat helicopter... Or putting a sticky bomb on their own ride and leaving it there as an insurance policy if they try to attack me.

Unashamedly I am. My brother has a PS4, and we do swap from time to time. I was a major PS2 fanboy back in the day, and I recently got another PS2 console just to play some classics. I have Steam as well but I use it so rarely I may as well not have it haha. And I have Origin for Sims 2 basically, as it was the only one in the series I liked. Soll, if I add you do you fancy some Battlefront at some point? Not played it with others yet. Plus it would be good to talk to the chap I've been suggesting bikes to over the last year

Nope It's a cracker, not necessarily the best. But it has held onto a strong fan base for a very long time now. At the moment games wise I'm on Halo 5, and Star Wars Battlefront. Halo 5's story was the first I actually took interest in, the multiplayer is as usual excellent. Battlefront is fantastic but a little boring at times. It cracked the issues Destiny had with weapon powers etc. It's very well balanced so a good player with a shite setup can still be competitive.

I don't even know half the terminology used in this last page to do with games I had a Gameboy pocket once... yaaaay... Team fortress 2 beats all. I can say that with a reasonable amount of confidence
  24. -3 out there today. Took 10 minutes to defrost the car before I set off. There is a heavy frost everywhere, and icy roads. Nob of the day goes to the land rover who tail gated me for a mile or two even though I'm just hovering above speed limit on the clock. Roads are icy after being flooded recently, people come off the winding roads I take to work all the time in Winter. Usually big SUV and teens in bangers who seem to think their car can magically grip on sheet ice. Then an old golf tail gated for a few miles. Sat right on my tail, kept swinging out as if he was looking to overtake. There is a line of traffic just ahead of me. Again I'm doing the speed limit on a dark morning with ice on the roads. I've left a 4-5 second gap. What's wrong with people!? This is why I'm nervous with the bike during winter as you get these nob sacks who thinks the bad conditions don't apply to them. Visibility and grip are lessened, but they remain confident to the point I'm confident they're just stupid.
  25. Would like to pass my best wishes and condolences to Littlecat, Ohjay, Maia, family and friends. Never met the chap, but we've talked on a number of occasions. I can remember me and Moo chatting to him when he got his Kawasaki. He showed enthusiasm towards the hobby that is hard to find, and he seemed to always remain positive. A life yet to unfold has been lost. He will be missed. RIP
