  1. Sounds fine when engaged, after 12,000 miles and only owned by me and another old bloke I doubt the pressure plates are worn. When i pull it in just a little with some throttle holding 30mph for example, it will suddenly get a little lift in power and speed up. What Stu said sounds about right, im still fairly new to injection bikes Will check it out later, I have new aftermarket levers on there but with the old ones it did the same thing and its literally within 1cm of movement so im hoping its nothing too nasty.
  2. Just a little something i noticed on my CBR lately... Was riding when i pulled the clutch by about 1cm or so and it felt suddenly a bit smoother and the bike increased speed by about 1mph. If i pull further it obviously revs more without going any faster however i am bemused by this. I pull it in ever so slightly and it goes faster!? What would cause that to happen?
  3. You can see the carb easily if you sit down next to the bike and look at the back of the cylinder head Its just a simple screw on the right hand side near the bottom that controls it I think on the one I knew, it was a 2007 model and carbed so likely yours is also carbed with a choke lever. I have only seen some early 2000's suzukis with a choke lever and injection.
  4. Pours out of where exactly? My RS50 on a full tank dripped furiously out of the overflow after a ride as it seemed to shake it up a bit Need more info to really diagnose whats going on here
  5. If it only does it when it rains water will be getting into the spark plug recess and it shouldnt be able to normally, the plug cap should stop water getting in. Have a look and if it doesnt have them fit some HT leads that have big rubber washers that seal the hole from the top or fit some big rubber washers yourself onto the leads and try to stop water getting in. There should be some form of drainage though as said so have a look to see if its blocked

    bike wont fire up

I got a spark when my coils went, just the bike couldnt start as it wasnt giving a strong enough spark, so I had to bump it and then it mis-fired badly. But if the compression is right down then it sounds like a worn set of rings A bit weird to happen on a low mileage 4-stroke. Check your oil levels as worn rings can allow the bike to eat through oil. Do you know what the compression should be to confirm it is that which is the problem?

    bike wont fire up

Sounds chinese so I'm going to guess coil as if you replaced it before because it went id say that... Or it might have packed in the whole CDI
  8. I've got a million of them, I have been trawling cafe racer and street fighter sites for the last number of months. The amount I have learned from them is gigantic as I am looking to start a street fighter build using an older CBR600F, as I know they are solid bikes. But, I have some questions firstly as I will also in the near future take on a cafe racer project. I had 4 projects on the go at once recently all for other people and I found that I am able to take them apart even without a manual available. So 1: Is it possible to take a bike with 2 rear shocks like a CB250 and convert it to a monoshock using custom built mounts, and if so... What do I have to consider? Is the angle of the shock important? Is the type I use important? How do I know which to use? 2: Using fibreglass I can make body panels using a wooden skeleton packed with foam as a guide. Is it possible to create a fuel tank then? And if so... Do I need to fit a metal tank to hold the fuel inside the fibreglass shell? I will need to make it in 2 halves, the cover and the under side that fits around the frame. How do I connect the two halves together? 3: To do with electrical looms. I am electrically minded and can wire things with reasonable amount of competance. Where can I source connectors from that will fit a bike? What type of connectors are best to use? What type of wire is best to use and where do you source it? I'll leave it at that for now as the answers will likely be big to some of them Thanks in advance

    zx6r wont start

Checking is one thing, but a few weeks in the cold of winter will knock it out... Charge it up and try again, i had someone recently argue their battery was fine and the bike must be wrong somehow as it wasnt starting. Then he charged it and it went fine
  10. Man after my own heart I did this sort of stuff on my first RS50, its amazing how different or better the bike looks when you've finished modding it
  11. Here is why im fed up with my job right now... The oil industry isnt affected by the recession they say... We are doing well and getting more contracts than ever they say... But unfortunately your pay rise though you got "surpassed expectations" is less than inflation because of "the recession". That thing theyve just been saying they are immune to and are thriving through. Lieing piece of shit American tvats f**k em, f**k it
  12. Try the easy stuff first, put it in 2nd and bump start it
  13. I've read its a glitch in the ECU in a few places, just swap it out cheaply using ebay and see if it goes away. I had one of these though it was the later model so didnt cause problems
  14. Is it a regular click? Could just be something in the head clicking as it hasnt recieved much oil yet (speaking of which check your oil levels) Whats the mileage on it? As perhaps a valve clearance is out. Or its a cam chain tensioner that works properly when the oil pressure builds up a bit. My 600 has that, i hear a faint click at idle but it goes away when I rev up and its warm Could be quite a few things really, but to sum up, if it is consistent, doesnt get worse or change then I think you're all right
  15. Blowing exhaust, quick fix: Get firegum and put it on when the bike has been run so the heat dries it. Dont have the bike on as it will just blow it back out. Once dry wrap it in metal tape to act as a second and smart looking seal and then off you pop.
  16. Dont do what I did and leave the kill switch on only to think that the starter going means its fine Drain the fuel and put some in with STP fuel cleaner and see if that does the trick, it should then free up the carbs a bit as it runs it through

  18. Mine got done the other day, because I had nackered bolts from a previous owner failing to remove it, it took some doing... Took an hour and a half or so to get the bike apart, cct out, and back together
  19. Clean the cooling system, drop the oil and check for coolant, replace the head gasket anyway... A good strip and clean should make this problem go away
  20. Aprilia RS50 from the old era as they had the Minerelli engine and was more chunky than the new one, which is more fragile and weaker... Get a really tatty one as parts are a dime a dozen, then spend the next year with a Haynes manual rebuilding it, we and especially I can help you with these as mine was in bits more times that it was on the road (mostly due to me wanting to tinker) and its a great full sized starter bike... Capable of 60mph with basic derestriction with power band set to 3000-8000rpm.
  21. The last owner was one of these older blokes who thinks he knew it all without knowing much at all, with this being poncy london I'm not surprised It was rattling a little bit when I bought it but decided against changing it then as I figured it would get worse and then like my last one it would be off and on inside an hour. No so... The last guy didnt stop and think when he was doing the work and that is what has caused this to happen in the first place So Im fixing it for it to be someone elses problem. Hopefully a few years of being looked after by someone else will see it righted.
  22. The pads float as it were just barely touching the disc, ride it down a road without braking then reach back and feel. If its hot then you have a problem. When I havent ridden all week I find the brakes drag a bit more, but a ride sorts them out. I think you are suffering from the same thing so ride it a few more times and see what happens
