  1. Ok so now been back the track and appear to have found where my oil is coming from... And it was one of the places i thought; that small hole anybody i ask has no clue what it is therefor. However one person said it could be a Tell-tale hole - meaning it lets u know u have a broken seal inside, and its there as a breather hole and a warning. Here are some pics: As you can see it is weeping out of this random hole...but this weeping can become a dribble quickly and land on my back tyre. needs sorting! would anyone have anymore info or ideas on this? Thanks

    Metal in my Oil

Tomorrow should be fun then... going to be a gamble that it lasts the day and then i can get it stripped. I never have any luck with bikes, always seems its something that is a show stopper, never just a flat tyre and get it changed.

    Metal in my Oil

This sounds daft i know but its going to have to be a gamble I leave to go the track tomorrow and i am in work all day, i have no time. It ran ok last time and has been running and revving fine to a high temp so friday should be ok (famius last words!) and better now it has fresh oil in her! Here is some pics now... This looks worse than it actually is: here she is the bamn b*tch! i love her really!

    Metal in my Oil

Ok home and spending more time looking at the 'metal' material. it looks a bit more like graphite colour dark silver and crumbles if i crush it in my fingers going to try run a current though a piece now as a magnet has no affect. I forgot to mention or only just thought i did replace the rocker gasket myself but again i was very careful clearing the areas of old gasket and glue but perhaps some fell in..? i hope it was just that and nothing serious. Thanks!

    Metal in my Oil

Thank you, the alternator casing is still solid i gave it a good check when replacing the gasket and the new gasket has sealed well (inc gasket glue) as i have ran it to a high temp since. The rotor i am assuming is the coil covered electromagnet that spins inside the casing, as this seemed all fine and the cogs connecting it to spin. I am not sure what a Stator is or where the insulation lacquer would be applied. forgive me if am chatting jibberish I am not a mechanic however i pick it up realy quick and am not scared to do it myself. again sorry but which is the oil sieve? (where the filter screws on?) If i need to do this would it be ok to drain then filter the oil and put it back in as i have only just changed it. thanks!

    Metal in my Oil

My sump plug doesnt have a magnet on the end, and i just got a new plug (bolt) and a new washer when changing the oil. I did try a magnet myself with the shards and they dont attract, so this must be a little bit of good news judging by what you have said? I have recently changed my alternator gasket as at the track i lost a little oil but couldn't see where from and the casing has slight wear/corrosion on the exterior part where it meets the gasket so did it for safe messure. Possibly when scrapping the casing to ensure it was smooth from any old gasket or glue i have created little shards that could have fell in although i know i was careful and tryed to clear out any bits i may have made by flushing it out with a little oil(clean) before applying the new gasket and fitting it. To give you the full story to why i am worrying more so... i posted another topic (http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=44299) not long after my track day about losing a bit of oil and the fact the bike lost power (like petrol starvation) but after shutting of throttle and back on it was fine.... it has ran and ticked over fine since then with no unusual noises. thanks for taking the time to read all this. Rob

    Metal in my Oil

Fearing the worst but i will be honest i should have done another change before now I think. got the bike (zx6r '99) in spring 2010 with a recent oil change (i had to drain some out as was over filled) a year later i then did another change with stuff from hein gerick (semi 10w40 i assume). The bike had a busy year last year I think about 5k miles and then i went to a track day at the beginning of this year, i have now changed the oil now to Motul 5100 (better) and a better filter. However upon changing the oil i found small bits of metal (silver) and more importantly little shards of metal (no longer than 5mm, very thin, and no wider than 2mm) so they are small! I read the metal dust can clump and it being silver bits is better than it being gold, and that small shavings are not that uncommon but u can imagine my concern. i will post some pics ASAP and going to cut open my old filter tonight and have a look there, the bike seems to run and tick over fine with no knocking or odd noises etc. worried.com!

    Track Oil

Everyone on the track wants a couple of tenths!! I got Motul 5100 (Semi) mines an older engine so better being a little thicker i think. Also the ester in it helps with high temps and higher revs.
  9. Hello Peeps, I will be venturing to Anglesey on the 31st Aug, I will be using my former road bike the ZX6R for the second time - which is now White with red extras. I keep meaning to put up the transformation pics! Anyways just wondering if anyone will be going or fancies it? Its with No Limits and there is space in all 3 groups still (I will be in Inter)

    Track Oil

Having read a few articles and forums, I'm being told full synthetic is best to get for my ZX6R (99) G2. Also reading Castrol GPS Racing is a good bet as it is for high tolerance! Although this was back in 2009 - 10. Any advice? Thanks
  12. Cant compare this, and imo the past means nothing but information for estimates, what matters is the current season (at any time) You say Lorenzo (who am not a fan of) reaps the benefits but is Stoner not reaping the benefits from whoever helped design the Honda? Also saying that sounds like you put anyone on a yam they are a winner - no no no. Rossi and his mechanics may have had control but also limitations, something is wrong with the ducati to bring it up to speed with the Yam and Honda. Am sure Rossi took all he knew with him into that factory and when Burgess says "I can fix that in 80secs" or whatever he said, just because he hasn't doesn't mean he can't. Just not allowed too? ei "Scrap this piece of junk lets start again we have the formula" Ducati reply; "not a chance!" But again Stoner had the bottle to push it into bends and pray where others dont. Perhaps Audi will fund to bring a better bike it would be good but i think rossi has made the right choice.
  13. More Moaning: Watching the qualifying, been a few crashes meaning red flags so BBC have to cut off the coverage on the TV, all be it they waited till 0 on the clock but heaven forbid there is extra time between Blackpool vs Grimsby in football bet that wouldnt be cut short! Simply a joke! Yes i could buy a season ticket on MotoGP but i pay my TV license and i want to watch it (All) through my TV not need to play on a pc and hook up my tv etc. Rant over ....for now. Cheers
  14. Agreed in both parts, the ducati was flawed to start, most crash outs from stoner was the front folding in, he even put them silly wings on to get more down force in the front. imo just shows how much determination stoner had (nothing to do with better) and would push it into bends knowing it didnt have the capabilties to grip the front and would pray he made it round! sometimes he would sometimes he'd crash out. Now rossi did start on the same bike stoner left (or a very close spec) and I think rossi is just as good but didnt have the determination or the balls to throw it into bends and hope for the best to win (where stoner had the eye of the tiger) - Ironic that the time rossi gives it a go up the inside the bike folds at the front and wipes stoner out I think both are fantastic riders and if stoner stuck around the battles would be immense with rossi back at yam. Now i could be WAY off base here and am not paid millions for these thoughts but, ever seen the Rc8 races? Fantastic to watch them all struggle with the bike and twitching and one important point losing the front in bends.... then look at the engine placing in a RC8 http://www.scenicreflections.com/ithumbs/KTM_RC8_Superstock_1000_01_1024x768.jpg Its set back very much like the Ducrappy GP bike. so not enough wieght on the front? All am saying.... I dont like Jorge but Very good smooth rider!
  15. So here we are again but this time, This: http://www.ducatinewstoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/122_0712_02_z_ducati_desmosedici_rr_engine.jpg is better than This: http://images.gizmag.com/hero/2282_20080574206.jpg Yet the motoGp is pushed back again for other sports! F*** the BBC!
  16. Yet you need to pay the licence to then pay for your eurosport Yep and when it was stopped what did they do, continued filming a bored pit crew and talk about how dissapointing it is rather than switching to the moto2 who was currently racing.... wait for it.... in the rain There was no red button page to view any of the MotoGP and the Sport News Articles where all F1.
  17. I am sick of the F1 getting the spot light. press the Red button you get F1, Wimbledon and then... F1 driver tracker. Where is the MOTOGP??? Now watching it on my PC through the BBC site. why even bother filming to just put it on the web? Its like they are told they have to film but have minimal interest in promoting it. THIS http://www.motorcyclenews.com/upload/269533/images/pedrosa2.jpg IS BETTER THAN THIS: http://i.ytimg.com/vi/16leevKtVUU/0.jpg Ignorant people!
  18. Cracking pictures! Is that a bit of tyre smoke i see What group was you in?

    Brake help

yep, almost always get rubbing for a few miles myself and the discs get really hot till they bed and wear that little bit away.
  20. yep oil does go round the alternator.... just to be sure the alternator is the electromagnets that spin on the side of the engine usually in the left hand side casing??..... I changed the gasket on my late gsxr midday at caldwell park, that gasket needed replacing. true story, look heres a pic! http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e293/BoB3rt/DSC_0460.jpg

    Exhaust

I wouldnt worry about how loud the bike will be only if its silly loud (straight through V-twin pipes) would you get any real hassle. I will second the MTC can, if you shoot down there on the bike one day for a ride (give them a ring first let them know ya coming) they should get everything you want sorted for it and then collect or deliver i suppose. I still have a £200 voucher i won to spend with them colour is your bike, any pictures?
  22. nope there is no airbox drains around there, i have seen that happen on my friends R6 and thought it was oil I did run it to above standard temp and gave it a good rev but nothing, to be honest its a bit risky taking it back the track to find a oil leak while razzing around The oil level is fine smack in the middle of the min and max. I think i will change the Alternator cover gasket never the less, its not a big job and i have a load of gasket paper and glue. thanks
  23. Was at oulton park couple of weeks ago, Was the last lap of a session and gave it full throttle down the back straight under the bridge after the double apex, the bike seem to loose power (like it was lacking petrol) but within a split second caught itself and power kicked back in. However when getting back the paddock i had a oil spray across my Alternator casing, and then a dribble down the fairing under the case. it was wet and cold so i loaded the bike on trailer and not had a chance to look until yesterday and cant find anything after cleaning it up. I left the bike running untill at or just over standard temp and gave it a Good Rev! nothing appears to leak, i am hoping its the case gasket and not a head gasket or one in the engine block. its a ZX6r '99 (G) am seeing if anyone can advise possiblities? http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e293/BoB3rt/IMG_0553.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e293/BoB3rt/IMG_0556.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e293/BoB3rt/IMG_0554.jpg There is a dirst patch but it is not leaking oil from the gasket above the oil was across and around the alternator gasket but nothing when i ran it http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e293/BoB3rt/IMG_0557-1.jpg I have no idea what this hole is there for and cant find it in the haynes manual or a picture to see if it should be open??? thanks
  24. He's doing Fantastic, Got ALL my support. There was talk about him not having certain brakes and dovi does have them? is this an upgrade they where testing with dovi or?
  25. Just wondering what others preferences are however mine is: TT > MotoGp > BSB > Moto 2 > WSB But i like the fact TT is once a year and NW200/Southen100 etc. Hardly ever watch SBK! Just cant get into it, the teams, the rivals or the bikes 0.o ?
