  1. Hard luck Aerodyll. you'll do better next time. And as Joeman says practise the slow speed control
  2. That's a great idea - you should go on Dragons Den I might fit that to my garage door it has no power but, if I can find a door bell with sufficient range... Other suppliers are available http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/diy/doors-and-door-furniture/door-bells-and-chimes#3074457345616676733494848109" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
  3. Stringent test..... What stringent tests would those be then? The ACU do not conduct tests, the importers/manufacturers simply pay a fee to carry the ACU accreditation. The ACU gold is not worth a dime as far as road riding is concerned, it is just the way the ACU make additional money EC22/05 is the important mark Stand corrected.
  4. Ooh excellent choice of bike you have there sir Suzuki DL1000? Nice spot, Hoggs. Top bike. Need the like button. Also Hoggs did not mention the colour of the Kwak not being
  5. The lane positioning is probably valid when I think about where I sit in that lane sometimes , might need to be more aware of sitting too far too the left. Two weeks ago I couldn't change gear- now after moving the gear shifter to a better position I'm good and the frustration on that part has gone- I guess as time goes on I'll re-read this and have a chuckle You are correct re the lane position. If you are too far to the left some will take that as an invitation to push past. It's not easy but you need to assert your right to be on the road in that position.
  6. If you mean this gold badge, it just means that the hemet is approved by the ACU for racing and has passed their stringent tests. As others have said try them on in a shop to find the best fittments. I prefer the double D strap. HTH
  7. Well done on passing Can't help on the bike front, personally I prefer a fairing
  8. I got some from Sensorcom ltd. They are moulded to your ear. They are not cheap but I preferred them to the foam type. However the speaker wire is very thin and after 14 months they are breaking up. Stardom 1 and Autocom do earphones suitable for motorbikes as they mould to the ear but have a small hole so you can still hear the outside world is emergency sirens etc. Cost cica £30 to 40. HTH.
  9. When you write out the procedure it does look very cumbersome and if you try to do it in sequence as you are finding it is almost unworkable. However as you become more comfortable with the riding and changing you will find it becomes second nature and you will be doing a lot of those steps simultaneously and not sequentially, if that makes sense. it is just practise you need.
  10. When folk say they go down a gear to go faster what they really mean is that they go down to "accelerate" faster. you are correct in saying the higher gears enable you to go faster. If you relate this to a push bike the higher gears mean you can have a higher top speed, but you would not start of in the top gear 'cause it would require too much effort to accelerate, so you start in low gear and as the speed increases change up. likewise when you come to a hill when it gets too much effort to pedal in the present gear you change down then it is easier to pedal but you may stay at the same speed. hope that all makes sense, it did to me but then i know what i am trying to say You want to be slowing down then changing down to an appropriate gear for the speed you are travelling at.
  11. Hi Congrats on passing the CBT. Pop over to the newbies section and introduce yourself. Sorry can't help with the bike though
  12. All of what Arwen said but especially the above! if you have never used gears before then learning how the vehicle sounds and reacts when you are in the wrong gear will take you a while (and even when you have been driving.riding for a while you will still get it wrong! Anyone who says they have never tried to pull off in second is a liar) It will click probably quicker than you think, you just need to push the frustration to the back of your mind and talk to your instructor and practise practise. As said. especially ride at one speed and go through the gears up and down. Also when changing down don't just let the clutch out "bang". let it out gently then there is less chance of locking up the back wheel. Also a little bit of revs on the down change helps, but not too much.
  13. Yes it does Rule 155no annotations Single-track roads. These are only wide enough for one vehicle. They may have special passing places. If you see a vehicle coming towards you, or the driver behind wants to overtake, pull into a passing place on your left, or wait opposite a passing place on your right. Give way to vehicles coming uphill whenever you can. If necessary, reverse until you reach a passing place to let the other vehicle pass. Slow down when passing pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
  14. When I, and a few others on here started, you got your bike up to 250CC fitted "L" plates and away you went.
  15. I have taken stuff that has "shrunk' to the charity shops.
  16. Don't forget I've got you on video riding in London. (and you rode nothing like that )
  17. I tend to be using the mirrors all the time so it is mirror signal lifesaver manoeuvre for me
  18. Might have done. Best fitting Gortex boots I could find at the show, but a bit more than I wanted to pay. Plenty of support and protection and DRY.
  19. Last minute decision but made it to the Brackley Bike show. Good day out but my ears are still singing after watching the bikes lapping the High Street.
