strewth give your ped a thorough going over westbeef before you put it on the road
I'll be fully rebuilding it, new everything if needed and of course it needs an MOT.
Interested to hear how you get on with it, do you think spares will be a problem?
No I had a look and there's a website in europe which seems to have everything you'd ever need for one, and at a reasonable price too. They're a bit worried about brexit it says on their website but I'm sure May might sort me out and get me a trade deal sorted with them.

Ebay might well be dangerous.......but will it be as dangerous as your new bike?....
"Quality dropped to previously unseen levels and there had even been lorry loads of unusable moped sold to Germany whose engines seizing after only some 100 km of use. The reason for this poor quality was simple, tooling for the production of the crankcases was now so dilapidated that the openings for the crank bearings had been machined too small.
For the U.K. readers of this, you might be interesting to know that some 300 of these faulty mopeds rejected by Germany were sent to the UK by Motokov and sold there as cheap motorcycles to obtain cherished registration number plates. I was horrified at the time over this practice but was assured by Motokov that these bikes were never destined to actually go on the road, their numbers eventually being sold to the personalised number plate trade. (These mopeds were subsequently sold off cheaply in the UK, some of them in batches of 10 at a time, but there was no warning about them being unsuitable for normal use. Some of them had their handlebars modified so that one side would swivel round to enable the moped to be carried more easily on the rear of a camper van. Many of them are still in circulation and still crop up on ebay from time to time. - jawamoped)"
...interestingly, I found one of these on the Bay supposedly running but with 10 miles on the clock and "never been on the road". Wonder why? Was it one of the machines described above? At any rate, the seller wanted £550 for it.......
It's probably less dangerous now, than it will be when I'm finished with it.

right so it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg when it comes to insure it, a good project though
£50 on the last check, with 0 no claims. A good way to build a second set of NCB too

If you think it's been registered just apply for log book
I had a look, I need to know the registration no for that. It's all a bit of a headache .
After a bit more research it seems possible. Needs an MOT against the vin and insurance and an inspection from the DVLA.
-
All on DVLA website. First you have to apply for registration then apply for V5 logbook.
I've looked, applying for a registration has everything except this situation. It's not old enough to have never been registered and the others dont apply.
-
Once bought a range rover that had not been registered and driven on a private estate, had to apply for logbook and it all went bizarrely straight forward.
What's the process of applying like? Just phone up the DVLA and see if they'll give me a reg?
-
I've been noseying some 80s bikes, I've found one which has no registration plate and no V5. I'm quite certain it's not been stolen.
Is it possible to get such a bike back on the road?
-
It defense, there's a game "Car Mechanic Simulator" and it's good fun buying a beat up old car and restoring it.

Nothing prepares you for 20 year old bolts that haven't been out since they went in.
-
I've done exactly this, except I was trying to tighten it and went too far.
High temp RTV silicone on the threads and it'll seal no problem My temp fix became permanent
It sealed this right up for me;

Thank you west beef that is just what I was after
No problem, if you need any more info I can get it up for you

I realised that I posted pics of the bike a couple of pages back and I've not done anything about the bodywork since then.
Anyway, for the enjoyment of @Westbeef and anyone else who still looks at this thread, here's the final dyno readout:
IMAG1266_1.jpg
I've not really ridden it what with kiddiwink and all that stuff but it goes quite well. The VNT turbo gives it a nice, smooth power delivery unlike a fixed geometry turbo (although I'm planning on sticking one on for shits&gigs) so it's just like riding a more powerful bike.
Time wise, it's taken the equivalent of 3 3/4 work weeks to complete and cost a smidge over £1.1k although that includes quite a few components bought in bulk but only a few were used and a few f**k ups along the way so probably £1k once those were taken out.
I really enjoyed the build but I doubt I'll get much time to use it.
That's impressive, do you know what it was making pre turbo? I guess you will have to give it me if you've got no use for it now
-
Can you finish this yet ?
Oh, erm... yeah. Pretty much done.
It goes vooooom-tish and all that and it's been dynoed at ~170 bhp. I've still got work to do on the clocks and bodywork and I've got another turbo I want to try.
I'll bung up the dyno and some pics when I get a mo.
Thank you

I have a Haynes for this I'll get you the specs just remind me. I'm likely to forget

Sounds excellent and also definitely not the day for it. It's been gusty and snowy/sleet all day round here. I'm impressed you all made it!
Sorry cant help with the grammar, not my strong point . I may try come along to the next meet weather permitting
-
If its pitted it's not going to seal, surely? Clean up the faces so it doesn't wreck the seals but its gonna leave little crevices for fluid to seap through.

Still no admission or explanation. At the very least you’d expect ‘it was an admin error’
Well if he's denying it, he isn't going to admit it is he .
However I do agree he's being a bit vague. Time will tell.

No I've not seen on their website, that news article is all I was shown. I imagine it'll take a bit to get that side set up if approval was only granted yesterday. MCN reporting it too:

Honestly I have no idea, I'll find out when I get into it. I have a workshop manual for it which seems better than some modern ones . I imagine itll be fairly slow progress but should be good fun
