  1. I know what you mean, I've been riding 35 years and I had a prang around Christmas time. My own fault if I'm honest, wasn't paying attention and on an unfamiliar bike with shit brakes. My confidence has taken a big knock but I just take things one ride at a time in the knowledge that I'll eventually get back to a place where I'm actually a better rider than I was before it happened. There's no need to feel pressured, we all evolve at our own pace. Good luck!

i am so nervous of getting on abike but i will do it i love bikes this message will help me to build my confidence up were you hurt and thankyou

No I wasn't hurt too bad,it was such a cold day that I was wearing so much clothing I must have bounced. I did rip open the sleeve of a very nice sheepskin flying jacket though. Ideally I should have been wearing my armoured textile jacket but I've been on a diet and its like a tent on me now.I think I will always try to wear full armoured leathers this summer as this is a good confidence booster in itself.

  3. Might be a blown bulb, some bikes with simple wiring will do this. Also your bike might be the same as a Regal Raptor twin. AJS is just a name borrowed from an old British bike manufacturer ( holder of 117 world records )

  4. On a more helpful note it sounds like the battery is low on power. The noise is probably the starter relay (solenoid) buzzing instead of making a circuit. When the battery gets worse it will just click and when the battery is really dead it wont do anything at all. Are the lights dimming when this happens?

  5. Hi guys, it's o lying a quick question, and if we don't get to the bottom of it it's fine as I don't plan to have this bike any longer than Summer at the latest.

So I have a Sinnis ST 125, it's only a cheap nasty bike but it's done me really well over the past 6 months and I've had no problems even though I only paid £650 for it... Anywho, when I try to start the bike with the electric start it makes like a wet farming noise, hard to explain, and I have to kick start it (sometimes it starts first time, sometimes it takes a little while). Once it gets started it cuts out pretty quickly, amd if I turn the throttle it cuts out instantly... After a few times though I can get it going, or if I run it with the carb open. I was at a light earlier though and it completely cut out when i was waiting. I think itcould be the battery as the kick start does work eventually but the electric start doesn't. Other than that the bike is working fine and I think will continue to last a little while, just wondering if there are any easy fixes for this sort of thing as I'm not mechanically minded.

First post here so thanks for the help, you guys seem to have a nice community :)

Welcome to the forum, I think the wet farming noise could be a cow farting. Sorry!
  6. Just out of interest, what went wrong with the original WP engine? Mine's at 34000m and I've had it from 4000m ,nothings gone wrong yet. My GSXR 1100L was going strong at about 80000m when I flogged it so here's hoping.

Lack of oil is not good for an engine  I hasten to add it was serviced regularly and no expense was spared as one of the perks of being in the trade and having my own bike business at the time was I had full time staff to maintain it and everything was cost price but went through the business.

It was on 140,000 miles and as you know it has a sight glass for checking the engine oil level rather than a dip stick. It looked fine, but it transpired that the sight glass had become stained and looked like it had the right oil quantity.

No engine oil + a high speed run + a dodgy sight glass = blown engine.

Replacement engine went in and was good for another 25,000 miles before it got sold for the first Blackbird in 96.

Wow , that's cheered me up,140,000 miles means mines' barely run in by comparison . How on earth did you find the time to clock 165,000 miles in only 3 years?
  7. The best breakers is the one that has exactly what you want at the best price so in other words start your search by using Google and just go with the flow.Nearly all of them are on EBay so you shouldn't have any hassle . I've bought a lot of stuff recently including some replica parts direct from China and I've got no complaints.

  8. I have used these people in the past a few times. Always given good results

Beauty is you provide the details of what you are looking for, they put it out to the dealers on their lists, dealer contacts you and you negotiate the price.

So it saves you spending hours on the phone. They come to you if they have the part you are seeking, just be prepared to have a number of incoming calls for a couple of days if it is a common part.

There is also a car equivelant for cars. I once needed a gearbox for my 2.9 Granada (when it was a current car, so shows how long ago it was) but it is still relevant. I used partfinder, calls came in thick and fast. First price was around £400. I eventually got a box for £50.

    Saved me a fortune.

I needed an engine for a GSXR1100WP. I was being quoted £700 - £900 for an average mileage motor. I got a low mileage motor for £185 warranted mileage.

Anyway, I digress, hope this helps you.

  9. If you aren't strapping a chain between it and something unloveable it'll just get lifted into a van, alarm or no alarm. Disk locks only deter opportunist chavs, but they won't be the main ones targeting a KTM125.

IMO, alarms are a fantastic con perpetrated by the alarm industry. Bike, house, car - it doesn't matter because nobody ever pays attention. At least the house ones just annoy everyone when they go wrong, bike ones prevent you from riding.

Get a bag that straps to the seat and carry as big and as expensive chain/lock as you can afford. Always lock it to something. Don't leave the chain touching the ground. Better, two chains.

Must agree about alarms,I once saw on TV a Ducati being manhandled into a refrigerated lorry which was sound proofed by the insulation .All in daylight in a busy London street and nobody took any notice. Get a big chain.
  10. Oh bad luck,we had these knuckle dragging fat old skinheads in Coventry last year, absolute hate filled morons. There's so few of them but the police bill must be colossal.Congratulations on the marriage though.

  11. The main question here is "have you got a Shoei shape head" six?.....you need to try some on the see if they fit ok.....

Dead on! that's the best advice so far.Fit is everything. As I recall Shoei used to fit a wider range of heads than some other brands but its years since I was a salesman so try as many lids as you can before deciding.

  12. Update, have no idea what ive done, now it just womt rev right when bars are straight? However perfectly fine when bars are turned..

A little friendly advice, the key to fault diagnoses is to make notes so that you do have an idea exactly what you have done. This will save a lot of time, grief and money and avoid reaching the wrong conclusions. Looking at your bike,I would pop the tank off then everything from grip to carb will be completely visible.probably just a slack cable.Good luck.

  13. Try checking the wiring from the alternator (generator) for damage . As for the delay in starting, here's a guess, have a look at your side stand cut off switch.Maybe it's gummed up with chain lube hence the delay in making a circuit. All said though, if a dealership fixed it and its not right then take it back.

  14. There are specialist restorers who can repair tanks for classic bikes that are more holes than tank but it'll cost big money.I got a tank off ebay recently for an ER5 for £40 and it was in good enough nick for me to paint the rest of the bike to match. I have had a tank silver soldered but the holes weren't as big as two inches.Afterwards I applied tank sealer but to be honest I don't know how long it lasted because I sold the bike. Good luck.

  15. I agree with all of the above. I've seen this scenario many times . Look at it like this if you bought a pen that didn't write you would take it straight back to the shop and get another one.A bike is no different if it doesn't work get another one. If you try to fix it you might make it worse then the dealer might try to claim that you have contributed to the problem . Good luck.

  16. So why is the bulk of the content still photographs of motorcycles. This would suggest that most people interpret the word "Ride" to mean their bike as in " My ride" the phrase"Readers rides" has appeared in more than one motorcycle magazine because it has a nice ring to it. I have no intention of imposing rules on anyone I am merely highlighting that I agree with the majority of posters who have posted pictures of their motorcycles rather than videos that consist mainly or cars and trees going backwards and a pair of handlebars.
