  1. Now that would make an amazing addition to the hazard perception element of the theory test!
  2. We have dug up what I strongly suspect to be some bits of asbestos when making flowerbeds in our garden. Along with about 1.5 tonnes of rubble from just the small strip we've excavated so far. Easter weekend has been set aside for removing the rest of the gravel, taking up the base of the old shed (don't yet know whether it's just paving slabs, or paving slabs on top of ALL OF THE CONCRETE AND RUBBLE), and turning over the soil underneath it all. I expect to hate everything by the end of the weekend. To help alleviate matters, I have informed the wife that as the first bank holiday since getting a bike, it's a legal requirement we ride to Matlock Bath at some point too.
  3. Sounds like the kind of place you need exceedingly good brakes. I don't know whether to laugh or to despair.
  4. I used the wd40 cleaner from Aldi this weekend, and just spraying it on was enough for the wording on the side of the chain to become visible, for the first time since I've bought the bike! I've since bought another 2 cans. Used the wd40 chain wax after cleaning it, and the bits which went on the side have stayed white, but I'd assumed they'd go after the ride to work this morning - may just need to give it a wipe when I get home I guess, but instructions said to just leave it after spraying, so I did. However the swing arm is spotless, whereas previously there was at least a little spray from the stuff I used before (can't remember what it was). Am I right in saying that with a scottoiler you don't really need to clean the chain? Shaft Hush you!
  5. I like it; nicely understated. I believe the paint colour is called 'brothel red' A friend has a BMW 3 Series with what we all* refer to as a bordello red leather interior. *him excluded.

  7. Can't help with a DVD, but I used this app when revising for mine and found it really useful. They have one for the theory questions too. Not sure if there's an iPhone version too, if you're that way inclined!
  8. That looks excellent, except I'll be getting a new phone in a couple of months and there's a very strong chance it'll have a different type of connector for charging! Is it simply a case of connecting it to the battery, and that's all?
  9. I do that, only without knowing anything about the sport, or the riders, or making any substitutions.
  10. I did something similar once on mountain bikes. Rather hairy at times!
  11. Picked up a couple more on today's jolly. Dog's Trust Wheels Motorcycles
  12. Blasphemy. Theyre faster in green as well. Everyone knows red is the fastest colour.
  13. Well if anyone's aiming to be there around lunchtime tomorrow then let me know - will check the forum when I get there. I'll be the wobbly one on a 60 plate black and white CBF600S.
  14. I have a flip-front helmet which probably helps, but neither the Shell nor the Co-op garage near me have ever asked me to remove it. One of the ladies in the Co-op always tells me to keep it shiny side up as I leave too.
  15. That's fair enough mate. I'm trying to dodge getting roped in to various tasks in the afternoon, so don't want to be home too early!
  16. Out of interest, how long do you think it would be by car? Not sure I save more than maybe 5 minutes on my commute, but then traffic here is a far cry from London!
  17. If your going via Harborough could either meet you there then take B664 to Uppingham, or meet you at Corby and take A427 to Oundle. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk That would be great, but I'm aiming to arrive there around lunchtime - been a few weeks since I've had a proper lie-in, and I have little intention of setting an early alarm on Saturday!
  18. Anyone even tenuously on the route from Nottingham and fancy meeting up for a ride together on the way? By tenuous I mean I might go via Melton and Market Harborough for some high jinks on the B6047.
  19. Not going to lie, that's a fair part of my motivation for going! Hadn't thought about needing to take the flyer though, wouldn't hurt to have it with me I guess.
  20. Bad luck, but don't let it get you down. You'll nail it next time, and more time on the bike with an instructor is always a good thing!
  21. I did my DAS straight off. As I wanted to use it on longer journeys, a 125 was never going to cut the mustard, and as I'm in for the long haul I figured there's no point faffing around! The school I learnt with did fixed-price DAS courses, so no risk of an open-ended number of lessons, and I passed Mod2 within 6 weeks of the CBT, having had about 14 hours of lessons and no practice in-between. I've driven for 12 years and ride pedal bikes quite a bit, both of which really helped in terms of road awareness and the assumption that all other road users are actively trying to kill me, so I found it relatively easy to learn, but it's different for everyone. Also, as 125s are so popular to steal, it might be worth playing around on an insurance comparison site to see what the difference is between a 125 and 500-600cc bigger bike, if you have any idea what sort of bike you might want. Personally, if you're wanting bigger bikes then I'd go straight for the DAS, but it depends on both your budget and also general confidence on the road as to how quickly you might pass.
  22. Looks like an excellent day out. Bit far for me though! Today I looked wistfully at the sunshine whilst the in-laws were over for lunch. They're still here.
  23. Too far for me now, but when I lived in Newcastle I stopped there quite often with my car or bicycle! Lovely bit of the world.
  24. Let me know if you come this way I'll join you for a ride out and buy you a brew Unlikely to be for a little while, but I'll let you know!
