  1. totally normal. The onus is on you to challenge it.. and move insurers if necessary. you have a renewal that was created by a computer with zero human involvement.. now comes the fun part. you get to speak to a real live human being. if you want. or you can just pay the new premium.. its these kinds of fun challenges and decision making processes that make life worth living. of course.. having something to complain about is always a huge positive too.
  2. yes.. use them and they will wear off.. or not, it hardly matters. this is only a problem because you think it is.. not because it actually is.

    Mmmmm

Sorry, but bad timing. I've just bought a new hat. This being a temporary Jehovah's Witness doesn't come cheap... It takes commitment.
  4. Best thing... escaping from this crowded little island. you get the gist......

    Xmas Thread!

Christmas which as a recently converted Jehovahs Witness.. I don't believe in - obviously came early... It actually stopped raining for a bit. So busy in my invisible dry.. condensation-free open air garage. Working tomorrow and the next day.. entirely by choice. happy hob nobs.... and a merry fig roll.

    Xmas Thread!

I converted to being a jehovahs witness last week.. so thats christmas sorted. working christmas day and boxing day.. so thats the period even more sorted. I will be de-converting just before new year. (Im not daft) Obviously once i de-convert, I will be shunned and no active JW will talk to me so thats next years saturday morning knocks at the door sorted too. win win win. Just before i converted and so began believing that christmas is a pagan festival that should be ignored on pain of eternal damnation. I bought myself a pressie.. and will be fitting that as a penance for my sins.
  7. fixed that for you.
  8. Politicians and nappies have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.
  9. I've yet to see an owners manual that recommends a PW. But then... The manufacturers are very aware that some owners are clueless plonkers. I don't see the need for one, but then I take pleasure in cleaning my bike, it also gives me the opportunity to get up close and hopefully recognise a potential problem before it gets out of hand. And expensive. In the right hands they can make cleaning quick easy and simple. In the wrong hands they can be a recipe for disaster and potentially expensive repairs. You have to know what you're doing. And it's best if the PW is adjustable. If in doubt, use a bucket and/or hose.
  10. The reason for taking a set of bulbs is in case one pops. its an instant fine and a copper with time on his hands.. or rather using you as an excuse to doss can actually force you to go and buy bulbs before allowing you to continue. (or summon roadside assist) So, for that reason its always wise to have spares with you. headlamp. indicators and brakelight. (assuming these arent LED) The fine isnt a big deal.. but the inconvenience could very easily become one. of course sods law dictates if you have them you wont need them. the opposite is also occasionally (and painfully) true.
  11. Never bothered buying one. Pointless.
  12. It was always stupid. Anyway.. a news article. https://www.connexionfrance.com/French-news/Drivers-in-France-no-longer-need-breathalyser-kits-as-controversial-law-scrapped?fbclid=IwAR38aTRzr2HXrA1Umens4OTbT1ucqk3fvOQcZpBbBtksVs58I3JH7jyFCX0 Not just stupid, but also a money making scam for the producers of these things. Quelle surprise (as they say)
  13. I will happily admit to riding much faster than 100mph... On the autobahn. I'm guessing it's only fun when it's illegal. I found it tedious, but then, motorways always are. Including those with no limits. We're heading for a road next September, that probably has a limit, but no police or speed cameras. Should be a laugh assuming nobody has a "moment" Edit. The speed limit is 62mph, but unenforced/unenforceable.
  14. Shirley dare's onlee enuff room on di's frorum fur won bloody pedera'stantic gnarner.!! namink gnow name's. mrs.
  15. Insurers have no interest in the real world. they only look at risk and maximising the returns for their underwriters. if you claim they will make damn sure that they pay out the absolute minimum. And then ensure they claw as much as possible of what they paid back in increased premiums. As a consequence of that the values they place are nowhere near 'real world' and i would think have nothing in common with any available trade 'guide'.
  16. I don't really see the point of these guides anymore for the average buyer. (or seller) when you have so many sellers (private and dealerships) at your fingertips its easy enough to work out an average value for any bike. So, if you're buying then you put your own value on the bike based on what the average is.. plus what added (or subtracted) value there is due to accessories or damage. As its so easy to - in moments; price up parts and accessories.. or find out if they are even available anymore. Same applies if you are selling. I think these guides have become an antiquated irrelevance.
  17. How it twists our sense of value. i cant justify buying a new winter coat but i can easily justify spending a £1000 on a set of panniers. (which i did today) (interest free credit helped)
  18. To look cool... obviously.
  19. ride to this place and explore the region. https://www.schlosshotel-neuerburg.de/en/our-house.html Cheap but excellent hotel just 12 miles from the Luxembourg border and cheap petrol.. an easy days ride from the Tunnel. and by far the best riding you can find north of Paris. (and south of Yorkshire) https://www.dropbox.com/s/whcvtb8yp4c2bhv/Eifel%20Luxembourgl.pdf?dl=0
  20. no "inevitably" about it.. its a choice to be made. what kind of Brexit does a PM who never really believed in it actually want? when all he has on his mind is his political legacy and his place in the history books. plus the small matter of the next general election. I'm fairly bad at predictions.. but I can see him upsetting a lot of people. And it wont be the 'remainers' who no longer count.
  21. Well surely these are UK regulations ? So why would leaving Europe change them ? I don't think you are fully understanding the whole "Take back control" thing in Brexit.
  22. "Get brexit done" is already meaning something different to what the voters thought it would mean. major shock. and that only took 3 days. no green card on the horizon nor international driving permits. No change at all for at least a year. (probably a lot longer than a year)
  23. Why are we even still talking about him? what amazes me most of all.. isn't that Corbin Lost. he never had a chance of gaining a majority. Its that Johnson won the biggest victory since the 1930s by running on a platform that was mostly about condemning and criticising 9 years of a Tory Government. No point arguing about what just happened.. its done. Its what happens next. because whatever does happen next. he owns it. And it could easily destroy him. Just a matter of seeing how much more damage he manages to do before everyone realises. he has no clothes. he never did have any clothes.
  24. I'm guessing that for a 21yr old bike, it's mechanical and needs a new cable. Pop it out, check its condition and go from there.
  25. What you get is pretty much the same thing, braided hoses with a choice of coloured plastic wrap. A choice usually of either plate. stainless or titanium fittings. There may be more choices than that nowadays. in my opinion its best to ignore plate, as it will inevitable show signs of age. stainless should be the minimum. titanium seems pointless on a road bike for fittings that are so small. Hel make everything themselves and at one time offered stainless fittings as standard. not sure why they would be so much more expensive. if there is a reason then it probably wont affect you.. but might give a very slight edge on the track. Assuming the rest of your brake system is good enough to notice. When i last did this to a bike i went for Goodridge with transparent wraps and stainless fittings. And I was very happy with the result.
