  1. Obviously we can all now live in fear and terror. which will make life a little more interesting. I shall be more attentive. see how many people I see out and about with wounds due to their phone exploding. Must be happening all the time. given the evidence of this random video. queuing outside A&E every night. causing crashes on the roads as cars go up in flames by the dozen - every day of the week. or maybe not. seems rather more likely to me that these are all examples of the sorts of people who think saving money by buying stuff from Aliexpress is definitely a good idea. Darwin Award entrants every one.
  2. Is 6 years longe term? Im now starting the 6th winter with a lithium battery. the original to the bike - bought November 2018. which is and has always been parked outside. Its managed to resist blowing up thus far, and I am yet to hear of any owner suffering from such a disaster. Might be because our batteries are made in Japan and we tend to resist buying cheaply made copies coming out of random Chinese factories with little or no Quality Control. Nor, incredibly have I ever heard of a KTM exploding and they were the first to adopt Lithium a few years before Honda. But I do enjoy these tales of exploding lithium batteries. Its a constant worry every time I put my phone in my pocket or place it on charge next to my bed. Same goes for the Original Japanese battery I picked up as an unused bargain. its on the floor just inches from my feet and the constant threat of it exploding and my losing a leg - does add some excitement to my otherwise rather unexciting life.
  3. Or, it's because nobody involved with this article has ever ridden the Honda Hornet 750 as it has never been made available in the USA. Blame Honda. Or American tastes. They didn't seem to think it was worth launching the bike stateside. Not last year. or for 2024, either. Its not just the Hornet that's missing. There is no 'Street' section on the Honda website. so an entire class of bikes is missing in America. No "CB". at all. They don't seem to think America wants modern UJMs or Muscle bikes like the CB1000 (Just one exception - CB500X - which is in the Adventure section) But putting that slight issue to one side. This top 10 seems to be just a straw poll amongst the staff at this publication based on either bikes they have tested or bought as their own ride and then written up by the staff photographer. So, its safe to assume he took all the photos and is probably awfully pleased with them too. I tend to find these sorts of polls an irrelevance. Theres often a huge bias towards some brands because of the sweeteners these brands throw at journalists at every launch. You are not going to talk down a bike if they gave you an all expenses paid trip to some exotic location for the launch and you want the same again next time. launch reviews should always be treated with extreme scepticism and so should these sorts of polls.
  4. Thats the difference isn't it. The Netherlands is a destination. somewhere to visit for the differing culture. but, my trips are almost exclusively about the landscape. And if the Landscape is uninteresting, then not going to bother. Theres a huge dutch influence in the fens, if you know what to look for. It has a kinda stark beauty to it once away from larger settlements. Its also empty by comparison. empty of people. or seems to be - a lot of the time.
  5. Ive only been to the Netherlands a couple of times. for the border photo opportunity at a place with the entirely appropriate name of Plank. just a random ride out from Neuerburg. The hills of Dutchland. not an easy concept to get your head around. but we were in the Netherlands riding ups and down hills. (quite big ones) 4 countries in a day. quite jolly. Aside from that, its not really a place that attracts me all that much. if I want flat as a pancake I don't need to cross the channel.. One of the benefits of living where I do sandwiched between the fens to the east and the Derbyshire hills to the west. variety.
  6. I do like a happy ending and the fact that if I go to Whitby I can now park in the railway station. Though why I would want to park there and not on the front, with a sea view or near a Whitby fish and chippy is another question entirely. Anyway drama over… until the next one.
  7. I see little point in leaving a bike battery constantly connected. I would leave it alone and not do anything until nearer the time when you are going to be riding it next. then charge it. Ive had optimates for years and never used them as intended. My bikes have never gone unused for very long.. there are always nice days when the urge takes me. Even during the lock downs I left it alone. At the end of them I connected it up and the light turned green very quickly. under an hour. so, it didn't really need much in the way of charging anyway. I think we just become conditioned to do things in a certain way. even talk in a certain way. like MB says above "as they are supposed to be" - yes, the manufacturers want you to believe these things are crucial. but for most people they're not really. fortunately we dont live in a climate where there is deep snow and sub zero temps for 5 months and riding is actually illegal during that time.
  8. Same. It’s an exaggeration - but holding standard grips is like holding 2 pencils. Not comfortable at all, especially as I often do fairly big miles and so being comfortable becomes rather more important. If they affect the heated grips this is of no concern to me - I ride the bike much more frequently with them off than turned on. Adding them is the first task. When I ordered the bike I got home and immediately ordered the grips. And put them on the moment I got the bike home.
  9. The heat has to go somewhere. The problem is often the amount of insulation between the heating elements and the metal of the handlebars, if it’s not good enough then the heat gets sucked away. And on some bikes its definitely not good enough.
  10. I wouldn't even want to guess what 'normal' is with one of those as Ive never seen one in the wild. Seems like it was one of those mad experiments Honda came up with at the same time as DCT. Though this is CVT with a difference.
  11. Sadly.. I can't take these types of gambles. I earn just a few pence above the minimum wage. so need to be sure. and the only way for me to be sure is to buy the genuine article. if I can't afford it there and then, I'll wait until I can. and save for it.

  13. You did well then. but there are different types of cheap. aren't there. Amazon usually has reviews that you can read. They also have a no quibble returns policy. My main beef isn't with stuff available on Amazon, they have to operate under UK law - which offers a lot of safeguards. It's these Chinese websites that sell cheap knock-offs. copies. counterfeits. however you want to describe them. Sites like Aliexpress and its ilk. I would also avoid eBay sellers based in china too. YT is crammed with examples of these types of knockoffs. with direct comparisons with the originals. and they tend to have one thing in common.
  14. Dont buy cheap. if you can't afford the real deal now, wait until you can.
  15. All you can do is try. see if it works for you. finding the perfect screen is all down to pot luck and some people never manage to. so they make allowances. The flip. and double bubble were both invented by MRA and MRA are one of the very few manufacturers that actually wind tunnel test their products. But there are other factors that can easily affect how they work. (or dont) mostly your height. but also your normal riding position. so geometry. I would suggest you go for MRA because at least if they dont work for you you will get most of your money back if you decide to sell them on. I had a 2-piece MRA on my old GS. it worked well at removing turbulence at speed.
  16. I wouldn't mess with it. I would just apply some markers. stickers or whatever to the speedo to give a more realistic speed.

This is because it's dialectal, an adjective. much like the intransive verb: FAFF is. and obviously as bikers we all use that word frequently. especially when on tour and you are ready to ride off and someone (who will remain nameless) decides this is the perfect time to take his seat off and do a bit of random tweaking. Nithering is a northern English and Scottish Dialectal adjective and means "to shiver" now excuse me as its time I had a panad. back with the rampaging schizophrenics tonight and I need all the help I can get from turning yampy.

  19. Has been for a while. But, it seems not many people care. I certainly dont. I have GB on my number plate and I'm not about to change it, just to satisfy Northern Irish politicians. They also have got rid of ENG. CYM and SCO identifiers. but not NI. which just about tells you how perverse all this is.

  21. If you get stopped you might be fined. depends how 'to the letter' the copper is. Ive never been stopped by the police. except on the Brenner pass where the Austrian coppers like to lurk in shady doorways with their trusty radar guns. usually looking out for unsuspecting travellers who aren't below the limit when they pass the reduced limit signs on the edges of villages. drat. You only need it if you get stopped.. so dont attract attention to yourself and just the same as here - you will be invisible.

  23. I've never been abroad. Though apparently I must do soon as my sister has just bought 30 acres up the coast from these here foreign parts. she's mad. it runs in the family. She's currently living in some poxy little village called Lanchester. they can't even spell that right!! spellchecker said no. - repeatedly. its a constant struggle.

Doubtful. this has been a question asked for years by owners of the Africa Twin. as it's been quite hit and miss for people how effective the OEM heated grips are. not only do they want to replace them with some that use the same indicator lights and switch on the LHS handlebar, they also want some that will use the level setting tell tale on the display. But, Ive never seen a satisfactory answer that solves even one of those - let alone two. usually people resort to removing the OEM grips and replacing them completely. or using the heated wraps that are available. Heated grips on mine are at best 'adequate'. they're not impressive. However I seldom need to use them as I spent on really good gloves rather than fret over the grips. Personally, I think the issue with grips that dont get super hot is down to inadequate insulation between the element and the metal of the handlebars, so instead of the heat being pushed outwards its absorbed and channeled away by the cold metal underneath. total failure is another story.
