  1. Cheers Akey, No.2 makes sense! I'll nip round to the father in laws as I don't have a voltmeter!
  2. Sounds like the kind of thing I'd need. I'm just a little worried about how much I'll overheat in the south of Europe in a few weeks time!
  3. PD, I think ITV4 do coverage of Touring Cars.
  4. I quit university after realising that I was on a course that wouldn't make any difference to my future career prospects. Whilst at university though, I lied through my teeth to get office work experience during the summer holiday and where it might not have been entirely moral, it was something I could put on my CV as work experience and showed that I had a willingness to work hard. If you're already in the position where you're looking for work though, as Drain said, you need to sell yourself well and have a CV that really stands out from the crowd. It amazes me how many people I meet with the bog standard CV template that you get from MS Word. If I was recruiting, I'd instantly throw all those CV's out as it shows a lack of creativity and also shows that the candidate hasn't thought much about the job and what would make them the outstanding person that my company was looking for. I spoke to a CV writer a long time ago and the most important thing he told me in selling yourself was to have "the sexy stuff first". My academic grades were never fantastic, but my work experience has been good so that goes at the top and the grades go at the bottom. As mentioned before, tailor your covering letter to each specific job you're going for. Additionaly, hammer out those CV's like there's no tomorrow. When I was looking to move back to London a few years back I applied for over 100 jobs in 2 weeks which resulted in 11 interviews. Another tactic that I've used is that if I've ever been in need of work desperately and been over qualified, I've just left out the stuff on my CV that would make me over qualified and not mentioned it in the interview. Good luck with your search!
  5. I've got a 12V adaptor thingy for the bike to be able to charge up different bits and bobs whilst travelling. I've also got a separate charger cable for the sat nav too. Both have connectors on them to plug directly onto the battery with their own fuses. Once unplugged from the actual devices they are charging the battery is not in use at all. Question is, can I have the two chargers running off the battery whilst the bike is in use without affecting the battery? As I say, they are both fused individually and I'm sure don't draw too much power.
  6. I think it sucks. It seems like if a sport has any kind of following or popularity it will eventually move to a pay channel. I'm not so fussed on F1. I've not found it interesting for many years but the only tennis tournament that we have good coverage of is Wimbledon. The Frech, US and Australian open have all gone to Sky now. I wouldn't be so sure about getting much for free on the internet either. Looks like a clampdown is on the cards as the courts have ruled that BT are going to have to block a site that provides links to material uploaded by others. I wonder how long it will be before the ISP's are having to police the internet and we will have to "pay per view" for sports coverage online too...
  7. Are they safe? I'm considering getting one as I've got a £50 voucher for the local bike shop and with the impending trip round Europe, I figured it might be a worthy investment. Also, if they get wet, do they take very long to dry out?
  8. Am thinking exploring any country by bike sound exciting to me at the moment, can't wait to get riding again. Two bikes and neither road worthy at the moment. Think I'm going to start at home though, take a two week break and drive up to Scotland (from London) up one side of the country and back down the other side to Plymouth and back round the coast to Dover and back to London... OK might need a little longer to get a proper site seeing in. Me and my other half just got back a couple of weeks ago from a trip round Scotland. Was the best bike trip I've ever done and came very close to being one of the best holidays I've had too! If you want any info on routes etc I'd be happy to divulge (sp)!
  9. Sad story there Jin. Good on you for helping out though. I really do think there should be licences to firstly own dogs and secondly to breed them and each should be chipped by law. I think with the amount of irresponsible owners training them to fight this would help to ease this kind of problem. I found in Ireland there were a lot of dogs that were able to go running around the streets with the owners not caring whether they were on the road or not. Nearly hit a couple and had to accelerate away from one in a 30 zone as it came very close to running under the wheels.
  10. There's one that I see advertised quite often in biking mags for biking in the Himalaya's. Sounds pretty amazing to me but again, the cost is restrictive. Maybe when I've a few more pennies to my name...
  11. The slightly cheaper option than the Scala Q2 is the Scala Multiset Pro although this only works within a 10m range so is mostly for rider to passenger comms and sat nav. My other half an I found that clarity was good up to about 80mph then it went off. We obviously tested this off road IMO well worth the extra money spent. Maybe look at saving up a little more. I do believe there are wired options available but having to plug yourself in and out sounded like too much of a pain!
  12. Ah, shame you didn't get through first time but it's no doubt something you won't repeat doing again! I had a really bad habit of leaving the indicator going whilst doing my DAS so on the test each time I pulled away I made sure I looked twice to check the bloody thing was off! I'm glad I did as I hadn't pushed it hard enough to cancel after one manouvere and had to push it again! Better luck next time. It sounds like everything else besides that was good so you should get through ok!
  13. Oh, you'll need a mahoosive SD card too! At 720p it looks like it chews up about 1Gb per ten mins of recording!
  14. I just bought the GoPro HD Hero too. It's absolutely brilliant and that's from what I've seen on playback on a normal laptop, not one that is HD compatible. The only problem in my opinion is the 3 hour battery life which is too short lived for my liking so will have to get another battery. I spent a lot of time comparing between this model and the Contour HD which at UK prices is £100 cheaper. On the downside it isn't waterproof so this is what swung it in the go pro's favour for me. You also get lots of fixtures and fittings with the GoPro which makes it good for being transferable between bike and car or whatever other vehicle you might want to attach it to. I'll try and get a video up on here at some point!
  15. I've seen the way you ride! I don't blame him
  16. I'm guessing you don't carry male pillions Swiss Rolls?!? If your pillion behaves and doesn't fidget then usually once you're moving it's not that much different I don't think. I sometimes forget that I'm riding 2 up until I hit the brakes a bit harder than I should!
  17. Do you lot not work?!? I won't get home til 7pm so don't think I'll be making this it out
  18. Will keep an eye out for rideouts here and put links to posts I make in the London and Southeast section. Hopefully get something planned for July.
  19. Should be crossover of A272 and A32 just incase anyone was confuzzled!
  20. Hopefully won't have to wait too long. Need to be able to afford a huge sd card. This one chews up 1Gb/10mins!
  21. You'd be proud! I got the XR1100 for £300 which was list price but also them to throw in a £60 tinted visor and 2 pinlock inserts (one for the missus). Additionally, I bought some other bits (helmet cam, intercom and sat nav) and managed to get 10% off and a balaclava. A total of 12% off and items all bought at internet prices. Not bad I don't think.
  22. Sorry been off the scene for a while. The bike has been off the road since I got back from Ireland. No mot and problems with rear brake with for light, rusty downpipes and bike now in for major service. To top off a death in the family and a wedding we've been a little preoccupied! Will be free in July for a hideous I think....
  23. I suppose it depends on what you want to use them for. I needed something for touring with my other half on the back so the only option guaranteed to stay virtually dry and big enough to contain all the stuff we needed to take was to go with hard luggage. If it was only me however and I knew that I wasn't going to be going far then I'd probably go for soft luggaged. Tail packs seem to be a good option too.
  24. Hmmm I wonder if the bike shop would let me test the helmet on a quick ride. You're right Colin, the prices are high but what are you supposed to do when you need a lightweight helmet that has a good visor and venting options? Looking around we're all pretty much at the mercy of what the companies want to charge. So far I've not found a better alternative...
