  1. Can't really say much but was involved over the summer with some market research on electric bikes. It looks like the major manufacturers are looking into this very seriously and have already created prototypes one of which I had a go on comparable to a 650 twin. IMO it wasn't bad but the sound was horrendous. Still in the early stages but I don't think it's far off now. I'm sure we can wave goodbye to petrol engines within a lot of our lifetimes...
  2. I picked up a second hand 52l givi monokey box for just under £100. Bit more expensive than the one on the link but at leat you know it's been tested to a good speed.
  3. Is anyone going to the bike show in London this year? I've booked my ticket and will be going with a couple of other guys who have left the forum. If you want to join we'll be going on saturday. At the moment we're unsure on how we're getting there. If the weather is ok then we'll be on our bikes, if not probably driving. Give me a call if you're there or want to ride with us from the Ace Cafe. My number is in the contacts section.
  4. Yeah I'll have a look at that. Seems like it might be the most likely cause as when I rev hard it kicks in again so I'm guessing that it could just be a bit of water cutting the spark. Didn't realise there were drainage holes. Will have to do a bit of nosing around!
  5. I've got a small annoying problem with my Bandit (650cc, 06 plate, oil cooled). If I take it out for an extended period of time in the rain it has, rarely, knocked out one cylinder. It comes back after about 30-60mins of riding or just letting it rest overnight so I can only imagine that water is getting in somewhere but don't know where. The first time it happened, I changed the spark plugs and checked the HT leads and they were fine. It kicked back into life after I started it with the air filter off but I don't think that was the fix. I'm going to be servicing it next weekend. Has anyone got any suggestions what to look for that might be causing this problem?
  6. I've not looked into it fully so don't know if the cap is for actual cash payouts or for healthcare too so I may be wrong in what I'm saying. For false benefit claiming scumbags that can't be bothered to work then yes it's definitely needed. For those that have mental health problems, I don't see the cap being a problem (I don't know all the issues that go with mental health but things like depression) but I would say 26k is more than enough to live on. However, how about those that require full time care? Those that are incapacitated but still live on their own. Elderly people that require home care help with bathing and such things. I don't know how much it costs but I'd have thought if you need care for the majority of the day then it would probably add up to more than the cap. For these people, I don't think it is fair.
  7. Thanks for the messages everyone! Hit the big 3 0 yesterday!!! If anyone's about in central London next Friday I'll be celebrating then (due to lack of funds at the moment!). PM me if you're interested in coming along!
  8. Finally getting the other half on the back of the bike Travelling to the following locations on the bike fulfilling some goals of seeing Europe: North Wales Round the coast of Ireland Full tour of Scotland incorporating the Outer Hebridies and main Orkney Island Paris Geneva Riding through the Alps and in particular the Furka Pass which was amazing! Milan Pisa Rome Naples The Amalfi Coast
  9. Neil, I'd do all that you did and if it failed to work then just slow down to a speed where you know you could stop safely if something happened in front of you without the driver behind ending up in your rear. Saying that, I did get particularly mad with one bloke in a merc a while ago on the A4 flyover coming out of London during rush hour. Put my hand behind indicating for him to back off then he started flashing me and doing hand gestures. Slowed down to 15mph and let everyone overtake from the left. When he tried moving into the left lane I sped up. Done this a couple of times until he looked like his head was going to pop then went off filtering through the traffic probably not the safest thing to do though...
  10. Neil, they are cool but I think I'll be having one of these! http://seabreacher.com/
  11. My experience of a scooter when I was 16 was very bad. I fell off the bloody thing 3 times in 18 months and believe that they are just inherently unstable! Maybe it might have been my youth that made me ride it like an idiot, I don't know... I also believe they just don't have the same road presence as a bike and even though you can get larger engine scooters these days, a lot of drivers don't know that and will still try to take the p*ss. I also like the sound of a motorbike more too
  12. Susieque and Rennie were the first people I met for the 125 rideout a couple of years ago. Rode from Susie's house down to the ace cafe! The last members I met up with were Mark1Fazer and Auxgixer I'm a bike whore, I'll meet anyone with a motorbike!!!
  13. or peppermint tea and asafoetida in your food although it might make it taste funny. Also look at the types of food you're eating to see if it's any particular type then avoid it! You could also get a pretty lady to give you a back rub to try and make you burp!
  14. Buy another ticket tomorrow morning and write a letter to the train company. If it's National Express East Anglia good luck. Worst train company I've experienced by far. Their staff don't care either as they're not sure about being laid off.
  15. Keep pressing * or 0 on those lines. I usually find that eventually gets me through to a human!
  16. As the title says, CBT = Compulsory Basic Training Training being the main word there. There is no pass or fail, they just get you up to a standard where by you will be safe on the road and can control the bike/scooter in a controlled manner. If you've ridden before, it is still nice to show interest and, as like myself doing the CBT the second time round, I just loved it as it meant back on a bike again! Only advice I'd really give is listen to what is being said and enjoy!
  17. I spent a lot of time looking at HD camera's and decided on the go pro as it came with all the waterproof bits! The sounds quality with the waterproof casing leaves a lot to be desired but the image quality is stunning. I've got fantastic footage from Scotland and the Alps. If you've got the money then I'd say go for it. If you're not worried about the waterproof aspect then the Contour HD camera would be just as good. The fittings by the way are extremely secure and, having tested them off road (ahem) are fine up to an indicated 120mph! I'm sure it would have been fine going faster but I don't really like going that quick on the bike.
  18. I used one of those cans of shoe deoderiser. It helped a bit on my gloves but I think they were too far gone!!!! I've heard of people putting their gloves in the freezer. Whether it works or not is another matter!
  19. Hey Mark! Did you meet up in the end? My bike has been off the road since we got back from Europe. Hopefully it'll be getting fixed in at the end of the month so will be able to come out. Might be a little nippy now but just have to wrap up a little!
  20. i spoke to one of the housemates today and found out that the landlord wasn't at the property so it looks like it was the estate agents and they were lying. The estate agents were here to conduct inspections on the other rooms. something else that also struck me as odd was that if the agents are managing the property, unless there's a specific reason, the landlord wouldn't be attending the property at all. I'm going to be in touch tomorrow to find out exactly who was there and advise them i'll be speaking to the landlord to find out if he was at the property or not. I was going to let it lie but I'm now considering taking it further. I could forgive the landlord making a mistake but the agency should know the law and given the problems I've had with them I think it's high time i made a stand. It'll be interesting to see how this pans out...
  21. It has the quiet enjoyment clause but I wasn't sure exactly what constitutes quiet enjoyment. I've already handed in notice this morning so it's not too much of an issue. I also have all my mail sent to my permanent address in suffolk so there isn't an issue for references and I certainly shan't be using the same letting agency! That's good to know about the DPS that you didn't have any issues. I don't foresee there being any but just wanted to know what I could come back with if there were. I can't really be arsed to take it further at this moment in time and just want the moving out to go as smoothly as it can.
  22. Mojo, I had a google about this morning and looked up quiet enjoyment too. I couldn't quite make out whether them peering in through windows would constitute a break of that term. The lines seem a bit blurry when it comes to that. I've not looked at the pm yet so will do that now.
  23. Sorry for the essay. I came in to work this morning to find an email from the letting agency informing me that they and the landlord had a look through my window and were worried about the state of the flat I'm living in. The place I'm in is small and I have a lot of stuff in there but it is by no means dirty but they demanded for it to be cleaned to a high standard and de-cluttered before an agreed inspection on Saturday or they would have to consider serving notice. I've been pretty pi**ed off with the landlord anyway recently and decided that it would be a good time to hand in our notice which I have now done but I was wondering about the following: 1) Is the landlord allowed to snoop through the window? 2) Does the fact that they said they wanted it decluttered mean that it could count as an unannounced inspection? There's a whole host of other things with the property that haven't been dealt with properly and I just wanted to check incase there's any problems with deposit (this is in DPS scheme anyway) what I can throw back at them (I've already got other things such as no inventory taken when we moved in, no gas safety certificate, repairs reported but not dealt with or even acknowledged). Also, now I've handed in notice, I've advised them that I will allow propective tenants to view the property after 7pm weekdays and on weekends but under no circumstances due to a breakdown in trust led to from their email are they to enter the property without supervision from myself. Am I allowed to do this? I have the only key anyway so shouldn't be a problem but just want to make sure they can't say that I'm breaking any terms of the shorthold tenancy agreement.
  24. Congrats mate. Is it your first? If so time to get saving for all the kiddy stuff!!!!
  25. A bike that you can ride on a dual carriageway at NSL without having to worry about a head on wind. I had one of these bikes and it was great most of the time but in a strong head on wind it would sometimes struggle to get past 50mph! Anyway, I answered No to this question. I decided to stay aaround the 600's when I passed my DAS as I was a little scared of jumping up from 15bhp. I'm sure most others do the same as you can tell by the amount of posts that you get about first big bikes on here. If there's someone though that thinks they have the skill and ability to get a bigger bike then why not? A GSF1250 produces about 125bhp and a new zx6r produces 107. Not much of a difference there really so why penalise someone that wants the GSF1250 and wants to go touring because they've just passed?
