  1. that doesn't ease my nerves. It was this kind and it just appeared from behind a rubbish truck.
  2. rode past a van with a camera sticking out the back this morning. I was overtaking someone who had been going 15mph under the speed limit and had just pulled out of the fast lane so I might have accelerated a bit too much in my displeasure. The camera was facing towards the front of the bike so obviously no plate there for it to snap so I think I'm fine, but I just wanted to check no one had been done in this manner with some extra camera facing out the front of the van to catch the likes of us?
  3. I'm in two minds what I'll be getting next, to be honest. I love the V4, so it's a toss-up between the vfr1200f or the 8th gen vfr800. I know the vfr1200f has a tiny fuel tank and you barely get 150miles before having to fill up again, but for the power, the direct drive and the comfort it maybe more of an ideal commuter rather than a long distance tourer. The 8th gen vfr800 however looks lurvly, is better on the fuel, but the engine is basically a 20+ year old design even if it has been changed through the years.
  4. There are few restrictions on vans parking in residential areas ( other than what applies to cars in general) except that anything over 2500kg must display lights when parked on the highway. If it weighs over that and is parked without lights you've got something to work with. ill have a nosey when I'm next out the front. I really don't want to be the parking police neighbour of the street, I just wish people were more considerate.
  5. The grass looks a bit patchy, needs some fertiliser on it, know anyone who does muck spreading It had just been scarified. I've been overseeded and had compost put on since then
  6. This is the level of f**ked-up-ness that brexit is (north east winning candidate)
  7. I feel your pain. My street is nowhere near as bad, we have one car which goes on our drive and one bike that goes in the garage so we can always get parked just fine. Guests however usually have to go in another street. I normally have a large van outside my front window so I have recently planted some now bigger trees to block it out. It's parked perfectly legally but it's not really what you want to look out of your front window to see.
  8. the trouble is none of us can try multiple tyres before we buy them. So really you have to trust reviews. Most people will be biased to what they have. I can't fault my road 5s. But I have never ridden on the 2/3/4 so I cant say the 5 are any better.
  9. I have a 03 vtec. I love it, even the very mechanical kick it gives you when it goes onto vtec. So things to be aware of that I found since getting mine, the 8th gen (latest version) is the same engine as the vtec going back to 2003, but they have tweaked it a little, there is a slightly different airbox design to remove a value that most of us remove anyway, they have added an extra oil spray to the stator, earlier versions (mine included) burn them out just to lack of oil and they have mapped it differently to smooth out the vtec kick. I get about 44-46mph and use it to commute 12 miles each way every day. Only reliability I have had was the stator failure.
  10. I fitted them to my vfr, didn't change the angle of the beam but they were just too bright and I got a lot of people flashing me, i guess thinking i had main beam on, and i had people blocking their wing mirrors when I was filtering. I took them out and put standard halogens in for the MOT just incase the LEDs would fail and I've not had a need to swap them back.

    Cyclists

What if the parents don't cycle? I wish I had an answer to this but I don't, I don't think there is one. The trouble is cycling blurs the lines between pedestrian and road user. If I ride, I ride exclusively on the road, that's because I am on a road bike and go at speeds of between 15mph and 30mph depending on inclination. If I were to do those speeds on the pavement or even on shared use areas I would endanger people on foot. There is everything from the 5 year old with stabilisers upto and beyond me so where do you set the cut-off and how do you enforce it.

    Cyclists

I agree, to an extent. But what is the cross over? Would a 5-year-old kid riding on the path with stabilisers alongside their parents need to have number plates and insurance? Sounds like a daft idea. So if you say well people riding slowly on the path? Then that drives cyclists off the road where they should be, onto the pavement where they shouldn't.
  13. because what was voted for was unicorns and fairies, totally undeliverable and a ridiculous idea from the outset.
  14. do it, I was commuting on mine when it was reding -7c
  15. that was one of the first jobs I did to mine when I got it. Though it does have the issue of being too hot on the palm of your hand, and leaves your fingers cold. I have just ordered an over mitt from here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spada-0362079-Overmitts-Black/dp/B0062NIBYG/ref=sr_1_15?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1549034201&sr=8-15&keywords=motorbike+hand+muffs&refinements=p_76%3A419158031 which should keep the wind off my normal gloves and keep them much warmer. I looked a the full handlebar muff but they look crap so I couldn't bring myself to get them.
  16. bike 1900 insurance 300 mot + tyres + small fix £350 stator 100 r/r 90 phone mount 20 voltmeter 5 fuel 513 total: £3178 since June last year but I've got absolutely no thinking of selling it.
  17. able to tow 2tonnes is going to be a big vehicle. A big vehicle is either going to be old to be reasonably priced, or very expensive. Maybe something like this v70 AWD https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-55-VOLVO-V70-AWD-2-4-D5-AUTO-12-MTHS-MOT/163503041096?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D56004%26meid%3D1241c5a146004911abd5ab1a2de602e8%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D113606051665%26itm%3D163503041096&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
  18. The bike is used year round for commuting. I had the road5 (they've dropped the pilot from the name for the 5s) fitted yesterday, I figured there are only 2 things connecting you to the road so you want something decent. With this cold wet weather, I am taking it easy on them for longer than the recommended 100-mile break-in, probably closer to 200.
  19. they've had the switchgear apart and said it was a corroded connection so that is solved now.
  20. the shop cant get the bridgestone, they've recommended the pilots, I'm just not sure which ones to go for, the power 1, power 2ct or road 5.
  21. £29.50 for the test, waiting to see how much the indicator and tyres will cost. But if that's all that is wrong with a 16-year-old bike I am quite happy.
  22. just had the call, rear tyre is advisory there is enough on it to pass but probably should be changed soon, the front tyre is dead. Im quite shocked at to be honest I thought it looked like there were loads of life left it in. Nevermind if I was changing the rear (which I would from an advisory) then I'd do them as a pair anyway. The indicator is probably the switchgear, they are going to look at it this afternoon. Their tyre supplier is shut today so they'll get a price for the same Bridgestone battlax bt023 that are already on tomorrow.
  23. Just dropped her off for an MOT. First time I've had a bike tested. I know there is something weird with the left indicator, you flick the switch, it flashes once, then does nothing for 5 seconds before starting to flash normally. But when waiting outside another customer said the rear tyre was square. It looks fine to me but as it's my first bike I am now not sure and I'm now expecting a bill
  24. oh I know I wasn't saying that particular one. Mine had 45k on it when I got it. Just need to look around and see what is more local to you. I got mine with a top box too, looks naff but bloody handy for commuting.
  25. Obviously I'm biased since it's what I have but have you considered a vfr800? I find it very comfortable for my commute. I got my 2003 with 45k on the clock for under 2k last year. Maybe something like this, there are a few on ebay\autotrader etc just depends on where you are https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201901143918376?sort=price-asc&make=HONDA&radius=1501&model=VFR800F&postcode=sr69hz&year-from=2002&advertising-location=at_bikes&page=1 I did look at the bandit and fazr when i was looking at what to get, but the half fairing put me off compared to the full fairing.
