1. Anyone with reasonably long legs able to recommend good textile armoured trousers please? Ideally from personal experience. I'm getting a wee bit tired of my RST ones riding up to just above the tops of my boots when I'm on the bike. Thanks in advance
2. It is interesting. I did think that the internal combustion engine was in no one's plans for the future so that was an insight. Do MAG still protest against mandatory helmet laws, that's always been something that I found hard to agree with, seems like a bit too far with the rights of the individual
3. C'mon Gerontious must be due another update to this thread now...
4. Because I want to buy a dedicated gps unit, I don't want my phone on the handlebars, and because i'm not seeing any competitive pricing for such.
5. Yes granted, but absolutely no one seems to be selling it for any less than £305, and a few are selling at exactly that. Seems a rather artificial price floor to me. I can't but help think that someone by now would be selling it for 295 say, less margin but expect a higher turnover. And yes definitely over priced at anything over 200 I would have thought, they are hardly revolutionary tech objects
6. Not as many RD250LC or 350LC as I was expecting in the above comments. My list Yamaha MT125 Honda cbf1000 mk1 Kawasaki zzr1400 briefly (bought, ridden 6 times, soon to be sold) Down payment on a versys 650
7. I can't help but think, what if that goes wrong? Jagged metal?
8. I didn't put it on. The most mechanical thing I have done previously is lube the chain.
9. What a day. Must have taken me 6 or 7 hours to change the stator and do an oil change. Some parts I ordered from fleabay last week still hadn't turned up, so a trip to halfords was necessary (if you are in perkbox at work you get 10% off at halfords) I cannot get the oil filter off, it's a k&n with a nut on the top and that's well and truly rounded off. So had to just do a change of oil. Got the drain bolt off, no washer. Fished in the old oil, still no washer. Back to halfrauds. Alternator finally fitted, come to connect it up, the bloody connector isn't right. So had to hack it off and splice the wires. Putting the rear of the bike back in the dark was grim. But hey, yesterday I had never changed the oil or a stator at all so it's good experience. Piccy attached of the lousy stator that I replaced today. Thank you for the advice and assistance
10. I hope that turns up. My dad used to tell me when I was a kid that his older brother had dismantled a Brough Superior and that was stored in boxes. My dad will be 82 ish, not 100% and I am pretty sure that the story was true. Trouble is he fell out big style with his brother over money of course so I have no idea what became of the Brough in boxes
11. No update yet Gerontious ? Not even a bit of planning?
12. For sure, but now I have a bit more experience have sat on and test ridden more bikes,I'm convinced that this is actually really top heavy and manually maneuvering it is bloody murder
13. My long term experience with the bike has not been great. I do not recommend this bike any longer. It is the mk1 cbf1000, identifiable by the twin exhausts and older dash. Some say that the mk2 resolved one of these problems but I can't confirm The alternator is notorious for burning out. This applies to Honda parts and aftermarket parts. There isn't sufficient oil moving to cool the stator coils. Its a fireblade engine that also suffered. Google it. It seems that sooner or later you will have a stator problem which is a big deal on an efi motorcycle as it just shuts down if the battery isn't charging. This happened to me on a dual carriageway. The dash flickered and then the bike died as I was moving. Its now happened again with an electrex stator less than a year later. You can fit a voltmeter and at least if you keep checking, you should pick up that you have a charging problem before it dies. Some say fitting a new stator is a job that can be undertaken at the roadside. Not by me. Apparently mk2 with the single exhaust has a design change to flywheel but I don't have any knowledge of success Second issue is how top heavy the bike is. This is a shame as the engine is super smooth and entirely suitable for a new rider, but the bike is unbalanced and it will catch you out pushing it around or parking up. As soon as I work out a plan mine will be going
14. I bought the original Honda one. I thought I was getting 4 as the quantity used says 4. I got 1. With postage it cost me £5.60 For one FML Seemed like 4 to me
15. A headset means that you can have a navigation app running on your phone, use siri or ok Google to make calls send and read texts. You can answer calls. The headset I have is made by the helmet manufacturer so the earpieces fit in cutouts in the foam. As it has a microphone I wondered if the one mike could be used for headset and helmet camera
16. I found I was clicking too early on some hazards. What you can do, whilst you can't just click click all the time, but what you can do is see a hazard, click as soon as you see a movement say, then click again a second later and again a second later too if the hazard is developing. It uses your best click so this works in your favour. Use the practice clips to get a feel for how often and how quickly you can click. Also second what bender says, you can use a little sixth sense. So I think one is a cyclist. As soon as he appears he isn't a hazard (but you can click anyway it won't count against you) but your sixth sense should tell you it's likely that he will feature. Eyes scan ahead if you see a parked car on your side or maybe a right turn then possibly he's going to pull out.
17. I think that you are right. That's why I don't understand these guys when they say push the middle in, it won't push in because of the head on it. It will only come out, but there is nothing to get hold of
18. You push the centre in How's that going to work? The middle bit is flush with the outer bit. It can't go in.
19. How do you get the middle bit out? There is nothing to get hold of
20. Removing the rear cowl from the biffer to investigate the charging problems. Stupid trim clip, couldn't for the life of me work out how to remove the bast*rd thing. Tried to work around it hoping it would stay in and somehow the bloody centre of it has disappeared onto the floor. How do you find replacements, do I measure it and go to halfords? Do I need special tools to remove?
