  1. Today’s rant by me …

An absolute plethora of temporary road works have recently sprung up around our way, all with poorly phased lights creating chaos with holes in the pavements & roads which will no doubt be poorly repaired & turn to potholes within a matter of months !!

If I was El Presidente, anyone digging up the road should be forced to resurface a 1/4 mile stretch of the complete carriageway adjacent to the hole to a very high standard without passing to costs onto utility customers !!

  2. Went out to scrub in the new knobbly rear tyre on Zippy & try it out on a couple of green lanes…as you might imagine, after the recent torrential rain it was a tad slippery and muddy as Fcuk, think the new tyre did the job well though … all the gear went straight into the washing machine.

You must be proper mates if you can tell him to shut the feck up

    ...

absolutely, he’s said the same to me at times,  embarrassing really as you realise you’ve overstepped the mark.

  4. I nominate my mate.

Rode out for brekkie at the cafe at Hoar park and a gander at the bikes.

It was very wet with a couple of sharp showers so we got a little damp.

There were not many bikes but loads of people in the cafe.

After looking around and seeing many familiar faces without bike gear, my mate started moaning about all the ruffty tuffty bikers who turned to their cars as soon as it gets a bit wet.

I pointed out that the majority were all old guys and this is probably the only excuse to escape retired mundanity & talk bollox with like minded mates during the most miserable time of the year.

My mate carried on grumbling about it until I told him to just shut the f*ck up - he can be a real knob sometimes, but a good mate most of the time.

It’s easy to bypass the side stand switch in my experience … removes one possibility …

That mod was already done on the F650GS when I got it … I had to tidy up the connection & wiring as it was just twisted & swinging in the wind.

  6. Went pre-Covid, got the train to Euston then two tube swops, then the Dockland Light railway - a real faff - was pissing down so didn't want to go on the bike.

Show seemed quite small TBH and not really worth the £. On the way home we were stuck at Euston for 2 hours as out train was cancelled due to a body on the track near Watford, put me right off.

I used to use Slime in my tubed dirt bike tyres when I was off roading.  Maybe worth a look?  It could be used preventatively and also for emergency repair.  Not sure about it being used in a big road bike though??

Yeah, Slime is what I'm thinking to get me to a more robust repair solution, just wondered if there was anything else (apart from Mousses) as removing and fitting an enduro tyre with levers needs Gorilla type hands.

Im not sure there is such a thing - after the fact.

even adding these liquids to a undamaged tube that can fill a hole are hit and miss. you just can't guarantee they will work. ask the question and some will say it worked. others will say it didn't and just created a mess. and then further problems when they had the tyre fixed professionally. or at home. side of the road -wherever. I know a lot of people with tubed tyres rely on good luck. That they won't get a puncture or, alternatively practice changing the tube and carry a spare with them plus the tools needed of course. My bike came with tubed wheels as standard. I paid a hefty amount of cash to avoid all these problems and bought new wheels.

seems to me the best course is to buy the level of assistance that will at least get you home. or to somewhere open that can fix the tube there and then. or fit a new one if you carry a spare. carrying a spare is probably the best thing you can do. Though I guess that doesnt help much if you're already stuck.

Trouble is with buying assistance is that I'm not sure it would cover green lanes and as much as I could argue that I'm on a 'road' I'm not sure the AA would agree 😉🤣

    Good afternoon.

You know those old codgers who are retired and then say stuff like “I don’t know how I had time to go to work”. They used to really annoy me. Guess what I’ve just said.

I think I may have somewhat overcommitted my time. Thankfully, two of the items on my todo require me to ride on the motorbike.

For me it’s more about not being able to do the stuff I want to do coz family & friends think I must have loads of spare time & find ways of filling it, when I really should be on my bike.

Well she let me down today, first time in 6 years.  Still got me home.IMG-20240202-WA0000.thumb.jpeg.4e80ca17687d63f0a7b5d0957a3e3598.jpegexplains why she was a bit squirmy on the way home last night.

The fairing makes perfect oil delivery system, to the back wheel.

I think it's the oil cooler.

The oil cooler is very vulnerable on the Trophy, mine was mullered.

  11. Reminds me of a lad telling his mate how his bike would be a rocket shop once he got the heads gas flowed & a Yoshi exhaust fitted … I then watched him walk out to the car park and sling his leg over a CX500 🤣🤣

I’m not sure about that, if that were true then if certain religious groups believed that would not be able to drink it, which they do 🤷🏻‍♂️

Also ripe bananas can contain 0.2% ABV which is more than the 0.0% quoted on the lager & nobody gets Id’d for those.

    Self-checkout!!!!!!!!!!

Monday, I went shopping at nearest Sainsbury.

When I went to pay all counters were empty and only available the self-checkouts 🤬

So, I told the lady near the self-checkouts to get my basket and put the items back because "I'm not doing your job!"

As principle I don't like people to do my job. So, I absolutely refuse to do others' work.

Plus, I'm not covered by their insurance if something goes wrong.

Pay people decent salaries and stop exploiting the ones who pay the money to be served.

There is a reason why I don't do buffet restaurants. If I'm paying to eat out, I want the entire service. :up:

I had to call someone across to approve me to buy alcohol free beer at the bloody self check out today … what’s that all about?

    Good morning!

Fairly chilled weekend, although I've just seen the locked thread on this section that some folk had little else to do with their Saturday. :|

January isn't half dragging on for me this year, I feel like the end of this week ought to be Feb, but it's a week on Thursday. Mrs was meant to do dry January, she's so far failed to make it a single weekend without having a drop

I’m still hanging on in there with Dry January, despite the multiple temptations offered up.

It’ll be 4 weekends in all, I’ll probably fall off the wagon with a bump when we have a weekend away beginning of Feb 🍻

TBH I haven’t felt any bad effects or great desire to drink, but after drinking daily through December I reckoned it was definitely time for a break.

  16. Suspected a leak from one of the fork seals on the F650GS, took the dust seal off & this was the crud I found underneath:

So much cleaning was done & then I used one of these to clean the seal ( got it free when I bought some fork seals for a different bike )

After much cleaning & front end bouncing, there is no longer a leak … either that or the fork leg is devoid of oil 😬

'Ti's pretty damn chilly this evening.  -7 already.

Which reminds me, I need to recharge the batteries for my gloves. I had to go up to the red setting on the way home!!!!

I went out to meet up with a couple of mates, it was 2 degrees but my hands were toasty ( except right on the finger tips) due to having gloves on the red setting… riding back home my fingers were chilled to the bone coz I’d forgotten to charge the batteries 🤦🏼‍♂️
