1. Big congratulations, very pleased for you.
2. Tried them both but found the bobber immediately uncomfortable, weird ay? Found I was a little stretched out leg wise on the scout but went out for a one and a half hour bimble and had no discomfort at all. Immediate thoughts were hmm this feels like its going to be a bit of a fat slug but nope it wasn’t. Downsides, gear leaver to far away from foot, could only touch it with the tip of my big toe but then I have midget sized feet so can’t blame the bike. They said they’d look into what could be done about it. The turning circle isn’t bad providing you have a road the width of a football pitch! The back brake felt lame. Upsides. I’d likely keep hold of my licence- I found myself just chugging along admiring the scenery and realised I was riding slower than I do on my 125!?! Opened it up a wee bit and had to hold on tight, it was a bit of a surprise to say the least, almost brown trousers time! Very pleasantly surprised. It feels like it weighs nothing, very well balanced almost rides itself. The bike got admiring looks and oddly people waved at me which all adds to the sunshiney good vibes. Just not 100% on it yet, want to try out the triumph T120 and BMW r ninet before committing. Oh and find the moola!
3. Yep good thinking, I’ll do just that.
4. Go for it elizabethf ! Looks like much fun.
5. Oh elizabethf that looks the business!
6. I think this was discussed last month along with the grenade alarms, they are available on eBay and Amazon so perhaps try there.
7. Jeez that’s a spectacular one. Glad you’ve survived to tell the tale here rather than the alternative!
8. Sounds like you first pump attended screwed up and didn’t want to fess up to her mistake in front of the boss. Doubt that was the first mistake she’s made! Some people do take the biscuit.
9. No you’ve always struck me as more of a Vaseline type.
10. Test riding the scout on Tuesday, maybe I should be trying the bobber!
11. A very heart felt post. You have my sympathy. I’m sure schools are mainly geared towards 16/17year old CBT kiddies or adults who can drive a car already so you probably wouldn’t get a good experience for that reason alone. Going out in the car and just observings a good idea. Chin up, you don’t need to feel too dispondent you will pass one day.
12. My camping foray has become a family excursion which colours things differently- car or maybe van but no bike and 4 of us but I think it will be good anyway, maybe better but definitely more expensive! I bought the boys the 3 man Quechua pop up tent for £55 and it’s very good value, has an attached fly sheet, mesh net inner door, little porch bit for your shoes, a loop for your lamp, hanging pockets, tested to “monsoon rainfall levels” and really does spring open in 2 seconds. It’s far to big for the bike but it’ll serve its purpose on this trip. I haven’t bought the cooking gear because now we’re in a car the cheap clunky weighty stuff that was in the garage from my sons camping trip from many moons ago will suffice. Any necessary purchases are still with motorcycle camping in mind though. The exped air bed has turned up at looks good but I’m not buying 4 of them so I said I contribute the £20 a cheapo bed costs and they could put it towards a more expensive one if they liked- everyone picked themselves a cheapo air bed at £19.99- what could possibly go wrong?! I bought 2 little well reviewed battery chargers because I think even if it’s not a success the little chargers can go in their school bags. Plus I can easily bungee one to the handlebars or mount to charge the phone whilst riding if I need the sat nav. The shredded memory foam pillow turned up and is ‘customisable’ ie you can unzip it and remove filling to get a height that suits you so I’m happy with that purchase. Really fancy the little camping chair Tango recommended but I’ll wait n see how the family outing goes! Buying the sleeping bags last minute so I can check the weather forecast and get whatever’s appropriate for the time. Mistakes so far have been the collapsible washing up bowl- far too big for the motorbike and looks quite pointless. The led rechargeable torch/lamp that’ll be fine on this trip with a car but useless on the bike with no lecky! Here’s pic of the tent the 2 seconds up was true but not 2 seconds down, worth the money just to watch two teenage boys trying to put it back in the bag!
13. Good peas are the devils work but the potential gin shortage due to juniper not getting imported now that is serious.
14. Really want to know if you’ve taken your 250 out yet. If you have what’s it feel like after all this time?
15. Or do nothing. ‘Do nothing for long enough and something will happen” Can’t remember who said that but they were saying everything resolves itself in the end. I’d carry on with the cars registration ASAP and see what happens. The letter probably has a time limit for response if not then just pick up where you left off. Naughty Ma in law!
16. Congratulations big styley! I’ve spent a few mins reading your early posts and I have to say wow you have got some strong genes, what great perseverance, you deserve that pass
17. What is the cost of replacement cables/earpieces?
18. Ear plugs effectiveness is measured in the decibel reduction they give, foam plugs are at the lower end of that protective spectrum, the better the fit the better the protection. But it’s all a matter of preference. I have two sets of moulded plugs, the custom fit guards you posted a link to I actually have (didn’t recognise it their website page must’ve changed) and they are definitely the better of the two pairs. They take a bit of getting used to and the softer silicone ones they make are much kinder on the ears than the hard moulded ones I have- at over double the price from the audiology dept in Bristol. Personally I don’t desire to listen to music while I riding I just want it to be me and the bikes engine noise which is where the filters are good because although they do dumb down the noise a lot and cut out damaging frequencies I can still hear and enjoy the sound of the engine. The one time I tried listening to music before I wore plugs I didn’t see or hear the ambulance until it was right on my back wheel and I was obstructing it’s path- rather put me off to say the least. I picked up my ‘custom fit’ moulded ones last year at the motorcycle show at the nec for £70 so if you get to the point of purchasing might be worth emailing them asking what show they’re going to be at as they go to lots of different shows. For no reason I can think of people don’t take hearing seriously and squander what they have until it’s damaged enough to cause them difficulties. I find it odd that everyone regards sight as being so precious (it is) but have no regard for damaging their hearing- right up to the point where they’re isolated because they can’t join in conversation or go to the cinema or watch television or hear someone whisper sweet things. I think it’s worth looking after.
19. Looks beautiful.
20. Spot on Yeldur. They are just starting to properly look into hearing loss and motorcycling. The baby boomer generation is providing the info because they are the first generation where theres a substantial cohort who rode over a long period without earplugs and are now of an age where deafness starts to really impact. From the early bits of research and what is known about the noise levels that cause damage motorcycling is right up there. The people who do use ear plugs often use poor quality disposable or semi disposable and whilst better than nothing are not up to the task. Moulded earplugs with filters are the way to go. There are a variety of companies that offer this at different prices so it’s worth a shop around, basic moulded ear plugs with motorcycle filters can be bought for as little as £70 but if you want the the music option included there’s no getting away from the fact they’re expensive. What price your hearing? With some companies (from the looks of the one Yeldurs given you a link to included) you can buy different filters to use with the same plugs. I have shooting filters and blanks (blanks are useful for stopping water getting in) that can be swapped over depending on what I’m doing. Pricey yes worth it, without a doubt.
21. Oh god shared bathroom space better make room for some flip flops!
