So I understand that most cut the chain off and just fit and rivet a new one on, so an angle grinder is the easy part, but which rivet tool are the go to one's to buy?

I've just been paid and need to make sure that I've got a new tool for the box. ;)

no substitute for the old split link

Just jumping on this thread as I have one of these bikes currently for sale. It’s in excellent condition for an 88. Anyone looking at parting some ££ for a very lovely example…let me know. Red frame with black everything else. Rides really well and sounds great. Searchable on FB marketplace.

    Cheers. Dave

Hi Dave do you have any photos and around what price thanks

Gosh yes, especially the CB125F which have legendary reliability status if kept full of oil.

I'm still gobsmacked when I look at A, how bad the oil looked and B, how very little of it there was and C, just how good it was inside considering A+B lol!

Worst of all, this 17 year old kid had blown up this bike and his parents just bought him a new Yamaha MT125 to replace it... shocking. I know what I'd have got if I'd blown up anything as a kid, let alone a brand new bike...

    i would have got walloped

As someone who owned Ducati desmos back in the 80`s I would stay well away from starter sprag clutches unless absolutely necessary.

Horrible little mechanisms prone to spitting small bits all over the place don`t ask me how I know lol.

    Cheers

    Yorkshire gold for me

I like most teas, green, black or red.

I found the hard way if I drink too much earl grey it keeps me awake all night with heartburn.

Wasn't an issue a few years ago, must be getting older :crybaby:

When we were kids the public info adds told you to simply make a lean-to on an internal wall with the doors from your house and magically you would all be fine 🤔

Not unreasonable thoughts, as we stand I would say this is worse or has the propensity to be worse than the Cuban missile crisis, tech has improved, payloads have increased as have the warheads, we do not have a missile defence system.

Our defence is we have a few nukes too, unlike USA we are small, 3 big nukes would see us as a country done.

What level of survival are you looking at, survival at any cost?, don't do anything just do what you want after the bomb has hit, radiation will probably get you within a month, the emp will take out most electrical stuff if your close by, best get wrapping the bike and radio in a few layers of tin foil dont forget to ground it,  make a few Faraday cages.

Soil is a good insulator, just dig a 30ft hole and line it with 1"steel plate and reinforced concrete, lead would be good too if wickes have any.

If it happens not surviving would probably be the easiest option.

they will be selling nuclear/air raid shelters at travis perkins shortly

So cleaned and oiled th chain on Sunday. For some reason I saw the chain when I was getting on the bike to come home from work. Silkolene Chain Lube.... more like f*cking water!!! Fuming is an understatement.

Cleaned using parafin, wiped dry then two rotations of the chain, spraying the inside and outside links.

Recommendations for a new lube welcomed, plus do I need to replace the chain?

it should have worked better than that for the price of it

Sticky pads are pretty permanent, blu tac is specifically not permanent.

I can't see it really being an issue unless a diligent copper wants to make an issue of it. In which case expect to have everything checked. So they'd pick up on the blu tac at that point.

Make a fixing you can carry with the proper plate to put on if you get pulled. And be ultra polite if it happens. Attitude is everything in this situation.

in other words go with the flow
