  1. As I only use it locally, around town it is fine. If you are after anything but a commuter then this is not the bike. anything above 60 and it shakes like hell. For what I got it for it is great but only in town, and even then I have to thrash it up the motorway every so often to clear it out or it starts to sulk
  2. Now the total lockdown has been lifted, we went out on the little Enfield yesterday, so good to be back on two wheels after all this time. The sticking front brake that I freed off the other week is fine now, the bike started first push of the button and rode perfectly, I think it is a bit lazy and likes a rest. Now we have no restrictions on travel I will be out on the bike a lot. Mrs. Ex is not happy with the Enfield, it's a bit small and no good for anything but short journeys, I got it it as a town bike and it is great for that but after riding Harleys for years it is a bit on the small side and so we may get another bike as well.
  3. Sorry I have not been here for a while. I had the test and it was negative, but the test took 4 days to get to me and be available for me to use. After that it was not processed for a week after that, so in reality no use at all. I'm still not fully over it, I am much better, but if I exert myself for a few hours, I get the symptoms back. They say it takes 6 weeks to get over it, I am in week 5 so hope to be better soon
  4. I think I have it, I have a home test kit but can't use it until tomorrow, then a wait for the results. I have had "it" for a while so I'm hoping for a negative result
  5. Thanks guys but not new pads, the caliper was sticking a bit after I didn't get to ride it for a while when I went back to work for a bit. So just stop down and free off same pads so should be ok. I will test it first chance I get but that be a while yet.
  6. Yesterday I stripped down the front caliper and freed off the pistons cleaned the pad guides and put some copperslip on and put it back together then checked it was free. All good but then the really hard thing, the sun was shining and I had to put the bike away, normally I would have been off for a long "road test" but these are strange times, so back in the shed.
  7. No such thing as a CBT in my day, just got the bike and started riding. The roads were a lot quieter in those days, so we got away with it, of course, the roads are very quiet at the moment so allowing someone to ride without a CBT, especially if they has one and it has run out, may be a good idea. I remember in the 1950's (yes I am that old) we moved to England from France, My dad was French, at that time he could not transfer a French license to an English one, but because of the Suez crisis, learners were allowed to drive on L plates without supervision. Dad took the english driving test and failed for not giving due courtesy and consideration to other road users, well he had been driving in Paris for 20 years, what did they expect?

  9. Probably won't get out on it much now until it's all over, they are telling us not to go out, so I can ride up and down my drive about 20 feet
  10. I have not had the bike out for a bit and the front brake is binding. The bike is a Royal Enfield Bullet, I have worked on disk brakes on cars but not on a bike, are they the same? Is there anything I need to Know. Thanks John
  11. My first bike and the one I took my test on was a Honda 90 Sport. After I passed my test, my first real bike was a Royal Enfield meteor minor 500 when I was 16
  12. I got a pair of these so far have been as promised, waterproof. But I haven't done any long rides. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RKone-Blend-10052-Motorcycle-Motorbike-Waterproof-Boots-Black/162745333396?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
  13. I found a rack on facebay, took a couple of weeks but I got a secondhand one for £25. and my Enfield is not a common bike. Loads on Ebay for your Kawasaki W800 from £100 up
  14. I picked my brother in law up from the pub on my Harley, he was well pissed but hung on ok. But the Harleys have a lot of room, wouldn't do it now on.my Enfield
  15. Aye its around 15 quid an hour or so, and I hadn't thought about the insurance side of things. I'm looking for something else now As a pensioner I w advise you to make sure that your NI is being paid. I have a friend who boasted for years about how he managed avoid paying NI and tax. He now gets about £60 a week pension instead of the £180 a week I get

  17. https://www.scanmypost.co.uk/ Just found this, any good? no use if you want to receive anything but letters
  18. Don't suppose you remember the name do you? Sorry it was over 30 years ago, in Portsmouth, but a few copy/ office type places did it then, have you tried to google? also it's likely you would need a local one, as I collected the post from them.
  19. Years ago I had a PO box, and it worked well, can't remember the cost but it was a long time ago. I also found an agency that took in mail it was cheaper and more convenient
  20. When I had a Harley I didn't mind motorway riding but that was in the summer on long rides in France or Spain. Now I have an Enfield I hate motorways. I would never do a long ride on a motorway in winter, that's what cars are for
  21. I went back to work for 3 months in October and today I got the Enfield out of the shed and it started 1st time, great to be on 2 wheels again. I rode to the gym, also the 1st time in 3 months that was not so much fun but will get easier soon, hopefully.
  22. I've agreed to go back to work for a month to help out as someone has taken a month off at the busiest time of the year. So no riding in the week for me at the moment, now here we are on Saturday and it's pissing down, now I know I could go out in the rain, BUT it is not much fun, so I'm taking the car. No riding next week as we are going away for the weekend. Roll on next summer please.
  23. @EX GASMAN You've just been slapped I've done my share of cold weather riding no heated anything in those days, on 1 trip from Nottingham to Sheffield when I got off I could not stand up. Now at 67 I don't do that anymore.
  24. Today I got the full face helmet and winter gloves out. It is now still a pleasure to ride. There will come a time when I will give in and take the car, but not for a long while yet.
  25. I don't do long rides when it's cold these days. I know I'm a biker, but I do have a car as well, sorry!
