  1. hmm, in that case i'd go with finding a quite empty parking lot and practicing that, dont worry at first about where your going, just try to get used to controling the bike on full lock. then after you feel more confident actually start going between 2 car spaces (approx the right width i believe). a smaller bike might help you if you picked up the speed a bit, since you can use your size to throw teh bike around more. (might be incorect here, since i've only had to wheel cbr's around before to move them). other than that, all I can really say is good luck, since i'm not that qualified to give much more advice
  2. Hmm, i'm not sure why your finding that very difficult, might be riding style or something else entirely (different bikes maybe) but i've never had trouble with turning on 'full lock'. jsut make sure you keep your head up, and at a steady speed. However I think if your bike is physically unable to turn inthat space then they enlarge it a bit, seem to recall one of my instructors talking about how some bike he'd seen try it didnt have a tight enough turning circle to be able to ever do that turn so they ahd to enlarge it as the rider was good, the bike wanst.
  3. Sorry what do you mean by full lock? I assuem you mean turning the handlebars as far as they will go?
  4. Well you could always ebay these ones then grab soem more at a show or somesuch that fit you better, prob shrink the costs down a lot, beyond that not relaly any otehr advice I could hazard at. Dress maker!! how fancy
  5. I'm in a similar boat with nothing to compare to, dr 125 and derbi gpr 125 both give very clear vies even at 70 (dr) and 80(gpr) wheras I find the er gets fuzzy about 50+ mph. Proably i'm jsut expecting too much from it I guess. Do other bigger bikes get fuzzy mirrors? Ok not that bad wouldnt complain
  6. In theory yes, assuming you get similar thickness material in your new better fitting jeans. however you will have to double stitch it minimum (i'm going straight of the bat assuming you know how to do this to a very good standard). next I would then go over then and treble and probably quadrouple stitch them so the kevlar cannot move around in the jeans. NOWS THE PROBLEM. you've also got to go over the rest of the entire set of jeans, and AT LEAST double stitch these. this will mean the jeans wont then fall apart at seams in the event of an off. Overall I think its very possible, although likely to be time consuming. It will also require you to be willing to see this through (stopping half way ruins 2 pairs of jeans and any re-sale value) and be pretty competant at stitching. If you do go ahead with this idea then good luck.
  7. This is the clincher, it must be road legal and approved off the top of my head I cannot remember, although I did have it explained to me on my cbt. There is two different stamps for approving helmets. One that is for open face and one for full face. If you can find out which sign is which ( i'm sure a google search or somesuch will provide said details) then you can find out which it is approved for. If for instance you helemt has the open face helmet approval then you can ride with it open, if it only has the full face stamp then open face riding is illegal. However the fact that no-one will know to check for this and not a chance they would tell by seeing you ride past means its a bit irrelevant. However do note that a stamp for full face helmet will not protect you how it was designed to if you do come off with it in the open position. Hope this helps
  8. Well they are better than trackies or shorts, but not a blip compared to leather or gortex for proper protection. you can get some nice kevlar lined jeans (draggin jeans or varius other makes). for sitting your cbt if its what you can get hold of, then yes jeans will do (I done my cbt in jeans as did many others here im sure). Will they protect you in a higher end off (30+ mph) I really wouldnt like to rely on them although im sure some people will now say 'oh i've done that and they were fine'. If possible grab soem better protection, but if not then I wouldnt worry stress too badly over it. lower speeds they should be durable enough to fall over onto. All this was assuming you mean proper jeans not fasionably trendy faded jeans etc which are either really thin or already have slight rips in. hope this helps, and good luck with your cbt
  9. If you do your training etc with a school then they will usually let you take their bikes on the tests (the one i done it with let you but offered a 10% discount to overall price if you had your own bike instead of using one of theirs) Ask at wherever your getting the training. If you are just showing up for tests etc then no not a chance the examiner would let you use his bike
  10. I've not had a problem with mine and thats a 09 plate, mines also been run over a couple of times, dropped by family members couple of times and me once and i've binned it down the road and no such problems. Dunno if i'm just lucky or if the batch i got mine from were very well built but so far so good at almost 13k miles Glad you got yours sorted now though, have you done anything with your mirrors to stop the vibration?
  11. Well done mate, when you got your mod 2 booked for? your be riding without L plates in no time
  12. That sucks a bit, you re-booked it I guess? ( and so the waiting begins again) on the plus side it does mean you can work out any last kinks in your bike now
  13. no worries jin, it'l all be sorted fudge it, its not like we were doing much tomorrow anyway hang in there mojo, soon the pain will fade and be replaced with a warm fuzzy feeling of a good chilled beer
  14. If your questioning it then I would say replace it when you can afford to (asap, dont put it off for too long) simply down to the fact that none of us were there, but you were and you know what sorta contact happened. if it was jsut a scrape rather than a bump (ie. no knock to the helmet) then dont worry about the paint job. When I had my off, I know i didnt hit my helmet, but while I was lieing on the ground i scraped my helemt along the road a bit, so it looks scuffed but I havent impacted with it, so I will still happily ride with it. Overall, if your asking the question then I would say replace it, you got spare arm, spare leg, spare lung even, but only one noggin
  15. no more so than having a tinted visor (ie. you jsut lift it for the duration of the tunnel). This way you'd jsut need to only take one visor with you and not ahve to worry about night time as it'd be changed to clear for ride home. will ahve to look into these, could be very useful
  16. Cheers very much for this article, jsut the legal cover thing alone saved me few bob as im sorting out new insurance now Cheers for this
  17. I'm gonna add another vote for 2 piece, as if you want to look spotless etc then if you fall and scuff a elbow or a knee but the otehr part remains ok then its easier to just buy half suit again rather than full set. also measn you could get black trousers, then a nice green and black jacket (go go power rangers!! ) then when you upgrade jsut rab a newer jacket in the colours of your new bike, same trousers (black goes with all). Let us know what you settle with
  18. I think that'l be down to individual companies, or maybe even the individual you speak to, I just said mine was restricted and they turned around and said it wouldnt make a difference , obvs if its not restricted and you make a claim they will throw it in your face that it wasn't so no pay out, but in buying the insurance I would imagine a reciept would be plenty. At the end of the day i'd say jsut ring up who-ever gives you the best deal, and ask them BEFORE you do anything, if they say no reciept is needed then do it yourself (if your confident) and if they do want one then ask garage to give you a reciept for it. IF they want a certificate, ask them why and point out that they arn't recognised by law or anything (I think I joked that I could type one out on word if they needed one rather than spend £100 to get soemone else to type one up on word) Hope this helps
  19. She doesn't need documentation, as such documentation doesn't exist. the garage will give you a certificate to say they put one in, but no proof that you didn't jsut ride it home and take it straight out again. if its restricted then you ahve nothing to worry about, although make sure its below 36bhp (thats their 10%leeway thing), it then falls to if a copper sees you giving it the beans and decides to pull you for it, they cant prove anyhting(the earnest is on them). If they are having a bad day (i mean truly terrible) they could take it, and test if, and no certificate will help you since you can pick em up on ebay for a tenner. however thats unbelivably rare. i think there was one case on another site where this happened, and then i got pulled a while back for it, but thats it. Quick fix if you are limiting the throttle (what i've got) just ask them to watch the rev counter, rev it to the limit (dont hold it there long as im sure its bad in waaaay too many ways for the bike if kept on) and that should satify them (worked for me). thats even assuming you've been pulled for something. ride sensibly and dont get caught when you do have a bit of fun and it'l never happen. Having spoken to some coppers, there seems to be two camps with the certificate, one lot who go well its more proof that its restricted, which makes them more inclined to let you ride away, and the toher who go, well anyone can get a piece of paper, only the guilty would bother carrying it with you, so its horses for courses, but as long as its restrcited theres no problem sorry for any typo's and for the lack of structure to post hope it helped Cheers
  20. HAHA is it worrying that a mate of mine failed his theory for bike serveral times? and the worst bit is he has a car !!
  21. My instructor told me he'd never seen anyone stall as many times as I managed to leaving the driveway to the test centre, I think in total It was about 17 or so times in the space of 50 metres or so. Having said that I then managed to get round the entire town ride only stalling it once, and that was purely down to laughter as my instructor almost fell of his bike in amazement when the guy i was doing the test with stalled his scooter (yes i mean a twist and go). At the time i figured it was hard to cock up that much, but that was it. I then hear my instructer saying it shouldnt be possible down the mick and then being speechless. fun times. never did work out what he done to it to cause this...
  22. Have been searching around on usual places (forum, google etc) cant seem to find a manual (either for sale or an electronic copy) so i put this question to you, does anyone know where I could locate (and aquire ) a manual for the derbi gpr 125 4 stroke version? Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers
