    fuel pump

well, the lights flash and sirens go off before it cuts out so it gives them warning its going to happen. Also I'd rather get a bike back that had been dropped (they are going to stop before they get off) onto the crash bungs than ridden off into the distance. At least I could get home again that way

    fuel pump

I know an alarm won't stop them. This alarm as well as being able to kill the bike by remote control, has a fob with an alarm so if the bike alarm goes off, the fob in your pocket also goes off alerting you to it straight away. From customers, the fob just about works from the other side of a shopping mall (which obviously has lots of interference from walls etc) so it has more of a range than you'd think. Loads of people have installed it without any issues though. Its like anything, whenever you start researching into it there is the odd horror story, like a set of well known tyres delaminating after a few hundred miles, or the gixxers frame being known to snap (look into it, there are loads of stories about that, probably from people stunting them too much though) If the fuel pump idea won't work, I will just install it as normal and hope I don't die! I'll ask around other forums with people who have this specific alarm first though and see if it is a common flaw because. The story I heard may well have been about a cheaper product Thanks though guys

    fuel pump

this hasn't happened, but if the fuel pump stops working mid ride, will you get the same symptoms as running out of fuel? Ie coughing and spluttering before it stops? The reason I ask is I am getting a new alarm which has a button which disables the bike if you see someone riding off on it, but on the very rare occasion it (or similar products) has shut the bike accidentally whilst riding without warning. I want it to do so in a way that will not suddenly cut the power so if I'm at high revs or mid corner and it cuts out, I wont loose control. If shutting off the fuel pump makes it splutter before dying, this would be ace, but im no mechanic
  6. if there is exhaust leakage, you may want to replace the gasket as Mr fro said. It depends how much its blowing though, if its just a tiny bit then I wouldn't give it a second thought. Its not a serious issue. It will fail an MOT if there is a hole in it, but a gasket leak is normal, especially if its a few years old
  7. a little off topic, but doesn't the bike need a battery to start? Even if kick started, it still needs a spark right?
  8. ps, check there is fuel in it. Disregard what ever the fuel gauge says and put some more in, try again. It definitely sounds like fuel starvation but Im not mechanically minded enough to know what the pipe does, sorry.
  9. before doing that (I cant remember who told me to do this, but someone on this forum) undo all pinch bolts on the fork and take out the screws on the front mudguard and take it off. Then bounce the front of the bike up and down which should turn the forks to their original position before doing up all the bolts and LASTLY replacing the mudguard. If that doesnt work, then do it manually with your knees etc as above
  10. isn't SOT approved a USA thing?
  11. that plus they need to be self leveling, which isn't possible on a bike
  12. Treat yourself to a scott oiler....you can them up at a reasonable cost if you hunt the net... YES! Set it up right and it will never run dry. Mine flings a little off, but its caught by the chain guard anyway so don't ever get any on the wheels
  13. yea, unfortunately its a known problem with the YBR. oil changes help, but it probably won't fix it completely. There isn't really anything you can do about it so try not to worry about it too much if it happens again
  14. there are a couple of small spots on mine that have a greesy look, no matter what I clean it with. That was after two years of use, but the patches are small.
  15. This isnt something that can be answered really. It depends on the road, the bike and the rider. Do what ever you feel comfortable doing. There is a 40mph road around here (that should be a 60, stupid council) that I do about 60/65 around the corners and a 60mph road that I can think of that I do about 20mph round one of the bends. Its really up to the way the road is and what you feel comfortable doing. Don't try and push yourself too much. Worse things can happen than taking a corner too slow, like taking it too fast and ending up in the grill of a lorry.
  16. better still, support you local shops and tell them the Online price and let them match it, or throw in some freebies... If we all use shops just as a fitting service and then go away and buy online, the shops will all close down, then we'll be stuffed!! Also, Shops can often do a better deal than online prices because they dont have to factor in postage costs, packaging and the potential of returned goods. If you can buy from a local shop, please do so else we will lose them my only local shop was hein gericke which closed down a while ago. Now all there is are a couple of motorcycle shops which happen to sell clothing. There are 2 of these within 30 miles of me and neither have a big range. If you buy online, make sure they have a good returns policy where you can send stuff back if it doesnt fit
  17. The general rule I have when it comes to ebay is if something is being sold by a company but doesnt give the name of the product, stay away from it. There is a reason why they don't want you to know who made it. If they do give the name, look into it. Personally I wouldnt buy this one

    Is it cheaper?

my garage charges £20 I think it is if you take your own tyre down for them to fit. Fitting is free if you buy through them, but they have a limited stock and dont order in
  20. I wear oxford stuff when its cold out
  21. many people keep theirs in their garage and I wear mine though the winter with no ill effects to the leather. I would say the only thing to be careful about is the bloody spiders making it a home
  22. I knew Jay Leno was into cars and bikes and always thought he had good taste... But my opinion of him has gone down now I know he owns a gixxer haha
