  1. that was my caution.
  2. that's true, from the 100's of videos i tried to watch about engine noise, the cam chain ones didn't run uniform. Plus Id be amazed how taking an exhaust off could cause an engine issue. unless welding to the head causes it but I fail to see how. Il just get the studs re done so I can torque it up proper. so if anyone knows the torque for m6 nuts id appreciate it lol.
  3. @WD40 makes perfect sense yes thanks.. good to know @fastbob i agree, just cant work out what would cause such an issue. not had any of the engine in bits. @Bianco2564yes new ones, and they sat well in place with no wiggle room, i held them in place with silicone gasket to hold em too. Yeah did them all up a bit at a time as was scared to over tighten. struggling to find torque spec but one did say m6 was 10nm. which isnt much. A center stud hasn't held well, I cant get that one to tighten but thought if the rest were tight it would be ok. clearly that could be it, but the sound just sounds alot more "in engine" than not but ive never started a bike with a loose manifold. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Exhaust-Manifold-Gaskets-Yamaha-FZS-600-Fazer-1998-2003/312433758247?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 these gaskets
  4. It is the only one and first one I drilled too deep. I probably went a few mm too deep. the rest i taped the drill bit at 10mm and have had no other leaks. So even drilling too deep there cant hit anything bad? @Mississippi Bullfrog I did put scredriver on the engine and it didnt sound too bad, not that im an expert and the exhaust sounds as it should at the back. apart from this drill hole and maybe some bits of metal getting inside i cant see what else it could be if its not the manifold. Il helicoil it and get it all much tighter. talc does seem a clever idea too.
  5. tried to make smoke but struggled haha. its outside too. how does a leaky manifold make the engine sound like its tapping inside etc? this sounds like something is wearing inside.
  6. thanks guys. it does get hot real quick lol
  7. maybe through the hole i drilled to far, any particle of metal gone into engine maybe, would thought it would just make way to sump. cant see or feel any leak from manifold. Here is a better video https://www.dropbox.com/s/po7e1sdqjbhsqls/20210226_153744.mp4?dl=0 if it really is a case of the manifold needing to be better sealed il get it off and helicoil it to make sure lol. got to get it right or il be stripping engine.. which means good bye engine.
  8. it sounds like its in the engine bud. but cant think how
  9. well you wont believe it. it started with a booster. did charge battery too but it seemed ok. but,, at some point and it was joked about, something must have got inside. maybe through the hole i drilled to far with. but i f#cked it up.. you may gloat laugh etc but Im gutted beyond explanation https://www.dropbox.com/s/r6sjth9gghwg1g4/20210226_141646.mp4?dl=0
  10. yeah.
  11. I agree mate. will be part of my process tomorrow.
  12. there is a few but its been the same with those few not connected. thing is its been sound until i had the exhaust off.
  13. not sure if its a clue, but each time i go to try it the clock has reset. and this is how it looks with ignition switched on. something doesnt seem right at all.
  14. i did google the anatomy of the head just to bloody make sure though haha. it is a carb bike. it was only started 10 days or so ago.
  15. its not possible, the stud is far lower left and the pistons are much deeper inside. good thought though
  16. solenoid buzzing like crazy, touched terminals to try turn bike over, nope. on charge at min but even booster pack didnt turn it over. ah well
  17. 100% mate
  18. No @fastbob I got new studs and nuts as a pack, stainless and installed with copper slip. @Ian Frogcheers hoping the new ones will do, or il helicoil it. cheers @Bender but now it wont start. just clicks and whines. I disconnected battery to weld, but fear something may have suffered. so pretty pissed off at min. see video https://www.dropbox.com/s/btv5vt0iun94zlt/20210225_114732.mp4?dl=0
  19. interesting. seems it was or is 10% and claims to have citronella in it too.
  20. that smidge that was mentioned above reads well, and has no deet in it... deet sounds a little dodgy lol
  21. well its all back together. not sure how well its going to be and may still helicoil the one I went too deep on.. There is one other thats not perfect but does align up with the holes on the downpipe. I just didnt dare over tighten. When doing them up the studs were going in a little which I know is normal, then they stopped of course, but my gut feeling is not to try and tighten as the tapped threads could give if pushed.. going to start her up in a little while. if she sounds ok and no leaks il leave it be and put it down as experience. Il not tackle another cyclinder head anytime soon..
  22. thats the one yeah. cant work out why it works, its not meant too is it
  23. lol true @husoi but the smidge sounds really good. after reading the facts etc expected a big price tag, but its not bad
  24. Made a note of the smidge.. some say the avon oil spray works but Il bet those hard little shits don't mind it. Would rather get a spray etc than wear a net. But,, if thats the only defence then fair play
  25. so has anyone found a good anti midge product seeing as its a common problem?
