  1. sounds like the locking part of the axle nut has got weak and vibrating loose you might need to replace the nut
  2. hi if you plan on sticking around on a great forum with plenty of help please pop into newbies and introduce yourself and yes it sounds like it could be head gasket
  3. dont think it does but if there isnt one you can see and it has always run fine before then that wont be the cause as those wires would of been bridged already
  4. if there is a switch on the clutch remove it from the rear of the lever and trace wire back into rear of headlight unplug it and then put a wire into the terminal to lnk both sides see how it is then
  5. what was we talking about with reserve position on fuel tap..............
  6. back home after riding a few more miles was to nice to head straight home great day cheers all
  7. whitish normally meansbike is running weak on the mixture and if very sooty then its to rich normall meant to be a lightish brown colour check mixture settings on carbs.if the haynes manual shows you which screw on side of carb is the mixture then screw that right in and then back out 1 1/2 turns on each carb and see if it runs any better.also is it points ign system or electronic if its points they could be pitted and worn out
  8. then take bike for a run and once you have done a few miles take the plugs out and see what colour they are at the tip that will help find out if mixture is out at all
  9. what you could see might of been one of the valves open turn the engine over slowly with ign off and bike on centre stand put it in 4th or 5th gear will turn easier then see if the 'washer' moves up and down otherwise if it is sat on the top of the piston itself then no its not meant to be there and will mean cylinder head off as it could have a broken valve in the head
  10. could be worse could be correcting it to hagrid
  11. north or south as long as i know im happy with either
  12. i will be coming from opposite direction so will meet there ruthie
  13. sounds like you might have a tight link on the chain rotate it slowly checking all the links are moving freely and that there isnt a tight spot in the chain
  14. you would be better off getting something like this as you can adjust it to fit many different bikes http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-MOT ... 2eb603f259

  17. if i get there i will meet up at rutland as well seeing as how i have to pass it to get over ur way
  18. i had the front wheel out of my fireblade by leaving the bike on the side stand and putting a trolley jack under the exhaust and just jacking it up untill front wheel was off the ground and bike was resting on sidestand and jack so was safe enough
  19. the frames are different as the 650 is shaft drive and the 550 chain drive the difference i think you will find is down at the swinging arm mounting point
  20. sounds like headrace bearings they can be adjusted unless you have been wheelying everywhere in which case they might need replacing
  21. did you just try getting a gap on the valve, you need to make sure camshaft is in correct part of its cycle before you will get a gap,but as others have said it sounds like you might of broken a valve or it has burnt into the cyclinder head in which case you wont get any kind of gap
  22. strip the petcock down clean it out and fit service kit in it with new seals and if need be use petseal in fuel tank to seal tank and that will hold any rust back from going into fuel line
