  1. i can offer mattress on the floor in front room providing you have no phobia of snakes or rotweillers(no not mrs eab altho she has been known to bite) im about 15 miles north of huntingdon so slightly past where meet is and bike would have to spend night in the back garden as no garage unless i can tidy up the shed and move the harley over enough to slot it in
  2. events tend to be what ever a person seems to like or enjoy unless you include things the the motorcycle show at the XL centre in east london which is a big show every year
  3. has it used any water or does it need topping up fairly often?
  4. is this with ign on or off? but i have to agree with tango sounds more like electrical than mechanical, and if head gasket is the problem t hen the amount of time it has been messing you about overall then the oil would show signs by now or water level would of dropped or it would of been overheating every time it got used
  5. welcome to the forum a good place to start is to google the Ace cafe london one of the oldest meeting places there is left in the london area
  6. you would be better off going direct soll and saving nearly 50 miles each way on the route drive up take up one of the locals on offer to crash out for the night t hen return home next day sounds like the plan to make
  7. beowulf do after market end cans for this bike but they are not cheap
  8. guys original post was back in may if the owner hasnt sorted it by now i dont think he ever will
  9. not even with some salt vinegar and brown sauce on them ??
  10. Other half bought a bike that unbeknown to him had been "glooped" we were going to Brands Hatch when must have ran over something that put a hole in the tyre. Gloop EVERYWHERE. Seriously EVERYWHERE. And it's a bugger to clean off bodywork by the time you get home a couple hours later. i had that on front tyre of my fireblade didnt know it was in there, tyre shop put it on machine to break the bead to change tyre and boom workshop covered in the stuff, they charged £5 extra for cleaning up as they hadnt been warned it was in there
  11. use some washing up liquid mixed with water and put some round the valve and around the edge of the tyre where it seals on the rim and look for bubbles appearing it is very possibly a leaky valve so make sure you check round them carefully
  12. if its for a 2 stroke then oil is only in the gearbox so using fully synthetic could give you clutch slip, personally i would go for a 10w/40 mineral oil or semi sythetic
  13. R.I.P. ride free with the wind, condolences to all family and friends near and far
  14. clockwise should increase the revs anticlockwise should lower them
  15. dont go modifying the battery box just buy the correct battery for the bike,if the battery you are using is to tall then it could press into seat base if its under the seat and put strain on the box mountings as they are only plastic and you dont want it becoming dislodged while out riding
  16. look on the fuel tap if it is a vacuum type there will be no off position just on res and prime make sure its not on prime
  17. thats because its the right hand one that will dry up of fuel first when left standing on side stand un-used for a long period of time so is more likely to be the one that is gummed up have you tried tapping float bowl to see if that cures it as a stuck float is often the cause, and also if it has got a vacuum fuel tap make sure you havent got it set on prime as that can also cause flooding if float is stuck
  18. could be flooding on that carb then if its spitting back into air box to remove screw from float bowl if they have rounded off you can use a small fine chisel and give the screws a tap in the direction to undo (anticlockwise) once they have moved slightly they will normally undo ok then replace then with either new screws or allen bolts
  19. new battery new spark plug fresh fuel and make sure carb is clean of gunge in t he float bowl and in the carb jets it should go then if you know it used to run ok
  20. first thing is..............did you use a new head gasket........2nd thing did you grind the valve in to make sure the seat was cut in correctly if you skipped either of these 2 steps then it is very possible cause to very low compression,if you did replace head gasket with new one then like tango says check valve clearances as fitting a new valve it will almost certainly be a very slightly different length hence needing gap resetting
  21. could be the starter motor itself on the way out if u have used a jump lead directly onto the point that starter cable goes to and of course the other jump lead hooked to frame if that doesnt make the starter motor spin over good chance there lies the problem
  22. i must agree maybe i shouldnt of posted all that i did at this moment, but i do wish all the families of anyone caught up in the incident all the best
  23. personally i think the borders should of never been opened it has allowed to many people capable of causing serious damage for any reason freedom to move about within europe,a good example of this is the fact someone i know is a teacher who has a lot of Lithuanian students and every long school holiday their families rent minibuses to drive home and then back again and with all the country borders they cross on the 3 day drive not once have they ever been stopped for passport checks at any border going from or returning to the uk
  24. if its been sat around a long time then a carb strip down and clean up of jets and some carb cleaner sprayed through all the fuel ways will help the most is it more likely to be gummed up carb thats the problem,im assuming you have removed the spark plugs and checked both have good spark?also with bike on centre stnad see if yo can undo float chamber drain screw in bottom of float bowl and see if both carbs drain of fuel
