  1. Took it for its MOT. Failed, due to excessive brake shudder, which is due to the bobbins in the disc rusting, so the disc has no movement in them. They have been like that since last year, when it was an advisory. New discs and pads and a bill for nearly £500. Still, first time I have had to pay anything on maintaining that bike, which for a 2012 with nearly 30,000 miles is not bad. I did 2000 miles last year, which is OK.
  2. The only thing I saw was about hotel closures. We took a packed lunch.
  3. From last week, we drove over Bealach-na-Ba to Applecross. It was very busy and the cloud cover meat visibility was measurable in feet. Hats off to the bikers that day. It was scary in a car, but to do that on a bike, no thanks. I have ridden it on my bike, in January, when I saw one other vehicle on the road.
  4. This weekend we are going on holiday. The last holiday was 3 weeks ago. The holiday after this one is only just over a month later. The joy of cancellations and finally just going.
  5. I do that, but especially with thick gloves on, I find it hard to do that. I am just not great at coordination and have never been on any bike that I find easy to slow speed manoeuvre. I suspect that to others that on/off surge would not be that noticeable, but to me, as a not very good slow speed rider, it is very obvious.
  6. I know the local Kawasaki dealer well and he adjusted the throttle so it is at a minimum.
  7. My Versys 1000 is even more on/off than the 650. It makes manoeuvres entertaining to say the least.
  8. The video above shows the various ways that blogger mounts the camera. It is mounted on a pole and sometimes he shoves it down the back of his jacket, or he sits on it!
  9. I had the first version and a mate has recently bought the latest. It is a great bike.
  10. Hopefully we will have a rally next year and I plan to get a camera for the ride out. That will look amazing.
  11. That is exactly the kind of shots i was talking about. I so want a 360 camera! The effects are brilliant.
  12. It can't be, as sometimes the camera pans round from facing Henry Cole to facing forward and there is no vehicle there.
  13. In the latest series of the Motorbike Show, when Henry Cole rides that episode's bike on that week's route, there must be a camera attached to the front of the bike. It moves around as if it is a drone, but there is no way a drone could fly so close to the bike. Has anyone got any idea what the camera is? The effect is amazing.
  14. I had third party/fire & theft insurance for my 125cc, since I knew I was never going to report any accident with it and it would cheaper to do any repairs myself.
  15. Get a side stand foot, one that is permanently attached to the side stand. That has been the main cause of my bikes ending up on their side, soft ground.
  16. I am another who will reply to say I have never had a bike I did not like. OK, my YBR125cc was pretty crap, but we all have to start with a 125cc, I had lots of fun on it and I would jump at the chance to ride another one.
  17. I took my nephews out for their first ever rides on a motorbike. I have been waiting until they were both tall enough to fit. They borrowed Throttled Jnr's kit and I took them on a run around local roads, including some twisties and round-a-bouts, because IME, all pillions love the experience of leaning when cornering. I kept the bike in a lower gear than normal, to make it sound like we were going faster than we actually were. Of course, they loved it!

At the insistence of my grandmother, my father wore a helmet in the 1950s, before it made legal to have to wear one. When he took my mother out, he would gallantly let her wear his jacket, so she would not get cold. He said it felt safe at the time, because cruising speed was about 40mph and the roads were far quieter then.

The YouTuber Fortnine did a great video on kit and safety with crash and injury data. If you go out with as little as possible in the heat, at least wear a helmet, boots and gloves. I do not get bikers who wear a jacket and no gloves. You will use your hands to protect yourself in a crash, you cannot help yourself, so definitely wear gloves.
  20. Some Black Sabbath and reminding myself that I just do not like the Ronnie James Dio albums.
  21. A couple of times a year, I use a screwdriver to scrape the build up of lube and crud around the front sprocket and inside the chain guard.
  22. The trip will fly by and you will want to do it again!
  23. Black Watch Memorial and David Stirling Memorial
  24. What has improved comfort for me - as big a gap as possible between seat and pegs - Airhawk seat - smaller meals during trips. - earplugs (cheap foam work fine for me).
  25. Many Icelandic toilets are unisex, disabled friendly and don't have a urinal. I like that, as it means I can sit and pee and not be made to feel I am no less of a man.
