  1. If it was a significant lack of power then surely you would have been able to tell. As I see it you have 3 options 1) Take it back to the 'mechanic' tell him your not happy with it and ask him to further investigate. 2) Take it to a yamaha dealer tell them the whole story and ask them to give you an opinion on the noise, likely causes and repair costs. 3) Chance it and hope it's going to get better and only sounds like that because it's not been run for a while. I personally would be on the phone to chorley yamaha tomorrow morning and explaining the situation and asking if one of their mechanics would have a spare minute to have a listen and see what they think.
  2. This lot arrived over the weekend. Chain and sprockets due any time. Fingers crossed it's tomorrow. I'm planning on doing a mini project with plenty of pictures. So far I have; - spark plugs - - rear pads - cush drive rubbers - oil filter I'm awaiting the chain and sprockets before I start. I plan to check the air filter to see if a clean will suffice, if not I'll order a new one. I'm going to give the swinging arm a clean and coat of hammerite. I may be purchasing 2 stainless steel silencers, I find myself holding off, I found this "> Can't help but think it sounds a bit agricultural.. I know it's a twin but it's a bit off putting to pay £240 when I'm not 100%. Coincidentally it's my model and colour scheme.

    cbr 125 help?

How far do you ride it when you do get on it? If it's only short journeys Im pretty sure the alternator won't have chance to fully charge the battery. Try a battery charger (bike charger not car) and failing that a new battery should only set you back about £30
  9. Does it turn over on the button? If it just clicks I would check the starter relay, if nothing happens check fuses and switchgear. If it turns over but won't fire I would change the pilot jet. Have a look at your spark plug. Is it white and blistered? If it is you are running too lean. Why did you change the carb in the first place? Was your old one knackered? I don't really see much of an advantage on a 50

    cbr 125 help?

Depends. What does it redline at? I tend to change gears quite early when commuting to and from work, I only really thrash it when I'm out riding for pleasure, 8k seems pretty high for a single. Couple of lads on here ride/have ridden cbr125's who could answer you better
  11. I'll be there on the first.. What bikes are everyone going to be on as I don't fancy walking round every biker at the barn on a Sunday asking if you are Graham off the Internet could be quite easily misinterpreted.
  12. Yeah I wouldn't wanna put any pressure on a ride like that, wouldn't be the end of the world to ride back on me own. Probably see you there then, (depending on me getting the 5pm start)
  13. I have booked the 1st off work, lower barn at half 10? I'll be on the clapped out GPZ how many people are you expecting to be riding out that day?
  14. Hmm, I really wanna come on this but I checked the works diary, and I have to cater for a buffet for 70 people for someone's 50th at the bar I work in. What would the chances be of being back for a 5pm star
  15. I ride a lot, been a personal thing up untill now but recently I really wanna start riding in groups, feel like I could learn a lot. I remember when I passed my first CBT at 17 and I went out with my grandad (no longer rides unfortunately) and he is an ex police biker. I learnt more in that hour than I had done in the months preceding.

    Insurance/silencers

Cheers! Credit card could be taking a battering then, girlfriend didn't take too kindly to my offer of both dipping into our savings.. The carb balance; do they just knock themselves out of sync or would you notice an issue before hand? I saw a rather crude rig posted on another forum consisting of some clear hose filled with water and mounted on a board then hooked up to the carbs on the vacuum holes, would this be effective or should I just pay for either the correct tool or a garage to do it. Would there be enough fuel in the float bowl after removing the tank or would you have to hook up some sort of temporary tank?
  17. The original silencers on my bike have seen better days, Delkavic do a 2 into 2 full stainless system for £365 or silencers only for £229 couple of questions? Kawasaki's jama originals are £390 for cans alone 1) my downpipes aren't in bad nick, they appear to have been replaced in comparison with the cans as the bellypan opening would chuck salt/grit/crap straight at them. Would there be any noticeable benefit from the stainless down pipes or could I just tidy the downpipes with a lick of heat paint and use the delkavic's 2) Will I have to rejet and balance my carbs with the delkavic's 3) I just spoke to my insurance, they said a like for like swap wouldnt require their notification but 'performance' upgrades will, and could carry a premium increase. What denotes a performance upgrade, would a dyno before and after suffice or should I just pay what they want. Does anyone have a rough idea what this tends to add to a policy (anyone changed cans mid policy and incurred a charge)
  18. Are you planning on coming back the same way?

    Please help!

I tried to get a quote and, the cheapest was £3000+ I think I may have filled the form out incorrectly though, or surely something was wrong, because a friend of mine has a 50cc Moped and his insure was about £300. But I'll have to have a look through the insurance with my Dad, I don't really understand all of that. Three grand does seem steep, but it's a highly desirable bike for scrotes to nick, wouldn't be a surprise to find a lot would have been written off, insurance is all statistics and unfortunately the bike in question is against you. Will it be garaged? Where you live makes a huge difference, how did you enter your age as your not 17 yet, so shouldn't be able to get a quote on it at the minute anyway, try putting your age as 17 and see what happens. Shouldnt really be too much you could enter wrong that will make a massive difference, you don't have convictions I assume, nor no claims.

    Please help!

Kawasaki KLX125 is the road going version. IMO I would buy the gear before the bike.. Insurance, many many factors, but the fact the DT is probably one of the most stolen bikes ever made would probably see you between 5-600 at a guess, maybe around 450 on the kwak. Let me know how far off I am when you try quotes, I would be trying them ASAP it may change your bike of choice!

    Bulbs - Help!!!

Does the old bulb not pull out of that plastic thing on the bottom?
  22. Well from my post earlier this week, some of you may have read about the circumstances surrounding this review. For those who didn't the bike in question belongs to my dad, he got it MOT'd this week and agreed to let me have a go as my insurance covers me third party on any other bike. This is the biggest bike I have ridden, I currently ride a GPZ500s after passing my test towards the arse end of last summer. I'll get some pictures of the bike at somepoint, with all the excitement it slipped my mind. Saturday morning I swung a leg over the KTM and even though I'm 6ft the bike feels tall, probably just because my bike has a really low seat, with it's height the bike still doesn't feel 'heavy' (I think I was expecting it to be top heavy) the suspension travels quite a bit when you take your weight off the seat, it almost follows my arse right to the point of me being stood up and still sat down.. The bars are a lot wider than what I'm used to but not uncomfortably so. Choke is on the handlebar, flicked it on and prodded the start button, my first thought was 'holy f@£k' the baffleless akropovic's make the bike sound like Satan himself gargling with razor blades. Commence grinning like an idiot to myself under the helmet. So anyway nervously clicked into first and pulled away, I rode the 2 miles or so to the road that leads to Rivington barn which from my house is all built up and a 30 limit. I was just changing up and riding in 4th with the revs really low untill I hit the national speed limit sign. On my dads advice I shifted my weight to the over the bars and opened the throttle as much as I dared. WOW! The thing should be kept in a cage and fed raw meat, I think I was in fourth and dropped to third at 30 when I opened it up, (no rev counter) the feeling from the bars was astonishing, even with my weight right over them they were still trying to lift underneath me. Anyone who knows this road (travelling with the school on your right towards the barn which would be on your right further down) will probably understand this better. I think I saw like 85 down that straight before nerves got the better of me, I backed off for the series of corners that come up after the straight. The wide bars made sense as soon as I hit them, seemed like before could even think about counter steering the bike had already dropped. It went exactly where I wanted it to. After the first set of corners pretty much parallel with the barn I knocked it up a gear and opened it up, it wasnt as brutal as on the straight but bloody hell it still pulled, I would have guessed about 3k but the power was instantly there. I consider my bike quick, but all the power is after 7k, the KTM has it on tap, wherever in the rev range you are, open that throttle and it will shift, and the noise!!! Don't know what the standard pipes are like but the akropovic's were incredible, people were looking at me like I was riding one of the four horses.. Rode the nice little loop past the blue lagoon grinning like an idiot and rode home getting gradually more and more confident. First thing my dad said when I got back was did you keep the front wheel down.. 'just about' I could barely speak.. I advise anyone with any hint of a chance of riding this bike to do it, it's an animal, you'll love it!! Would I have one as a day to day ride? I dunno, I would have to ride it for a week and see what it's like in traffic, I feel like the high bars could be an advantage in the flickability sense or a disadvantage in how wide they are. I hope to be able to answer this at some point. I would have one in a heartbeat if I could afford it as a second bike, as a day to day commuter I'm not 100% Never enjoyed anything as much as that half an hour or so..

  24. I'll try my best to get this off work but England are playing in euros, match on the 13th so it might be a struggle, TBC
  25. I'll keep my eye open, I live less than a mile from Rivington barn, and although biking is in the family, my dad doesn't tend to ride so much any more and non of my mates show any interest in biking so I wouldnt mind some group rides.. I only ride a 500, and over the next few weeks I need to do some pre summer maintinence, brake strip down and new pads, new chain and sprocket and Cush rubbers, oil + filter change, once this is done I will be all over this like a rash..
