As odd as it may sound... i've put a three man in the back of megawatts car... you're quite welcome to bum a spot in the tent. Personally i've had odder arrangements with random people i have just met before, so as long as you're comfortable with it, i'm comfortable with it. i was a student myself not so long ago, i rmbr the dilemmas of being skint as F*** and funding shit on the bare minimum. my condition: no accidental spooning, no matter how much booze you have drunk! OR EDIT: having said all this you may want to consider harrydh3 offer:

Thunder and Monsoon style rain, here down in berks... Just what i like before a weekend camping Bring it on mother nature... cos i is gonna slap her back in deh face and relish in it!

be better off checking the tread

I don't intend to be that guy who has everything go wrong! Esp on my first one... the only thing that will be stopping me riding on saturday is booze abuse. So i've started doing some checks to make sure the fundamentals are covered. You guys mind chiming in where i've missed things worth giving a once over. Fluids: Engine Oil, Coolant, Braking fluid Drive chain: clean chain/sprockets/ relube Tires: air/thread Electrics: check major connections, spot of wd40. Brakes: are they working or not - got to work ok this morning so im assuming they do Generally the bike is super reliable, but thought it worth asking incase there are a couple of bits i haven't considered, given a few hundred miles will be covered over the w/e.

You're not alone ... But as long as there is a map going i usually eventually somehow find my way!

ahh feeling more comfortable about my own now!
-
lets just hope we get some sun!
-
Right filled it from the proper place and low and behold i used almost exactly 1.8liters coolant! everything is working like a charm, and what a lovely sunny day to be testing it

No only to flush it, the exit pipe of the thermostat that leads to the fan. then i thought you filled it from the reservoir... kinda misunderstood the Haynes there. I swear i didnt see the radiator ca. i even took off the front fairing! found this diagram for a 600r is it similar for the 500s? if so im gonna slap myself for not noticing it! http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j124/Omega25/GPZ600R/cooling1.jpg

The haynes told me to do it from the radiator filler pipe. Now i may have gone off book a little while doing this Couldn't quite identify this 'radiator filler pipe, so i just detached the one coming off the thermostat and into the radiator. then shoved a hose pipe in and opened the tap. creating a glorious fountain!!! with about four exits I had my coolant filter connections open, and the drain bolt unscrewed and reservoir detached. Realised this, then closed up the coolant filter, kept hosing a bit more then reattached all the piping (including the reservoir at this point, figure i didnt want to fill it with water.) and then drain bolt. So having air trapped is very likely the case... Mr haynes manual says there is a pressure release cap on the thermostat, could be that. Ill give the air release thing a go next. just gotta get out of work first...

so i flushed the system yesterday with water got out all the coolant. (hose in the radiator feeder pipe, drain bolt unscrewed) Topped it up today. accidentally put too much in. a good inch above the full one but still with air at the top and not high enough to get in the feedback pipe at the top of the resivoir. Cos i had to get to work i drove anyway. buit didnt get far as i noticed the engine go right upto max temp quickly. so i turned back. On the way back i noticed it dropping slightly Gonna take the car as a precaution. What miht be causing this? 1 could it be too much water left in the system after in fluched it and now its not cooling properly? and/or too much coolant in the resivoir means its not going through properly? a quick glance at the filter and the coolant does look distinctly water like any help would be much appreciated.

mine is greenish! ahh there is always a complication! talking of mixing the stuff... does that mean i need to wash out the piping when i drain it with water?
-
Gonna go buy my coolant later on, is there any difference between coolant used in motorbikes and that in cars? was just gonna go ahead and buy 1l of the halfords stuff?
-
Try it and lets us know? im curious... Ill be honest sounds like an urban myth to me... but if it works, it works.

Do you do shortish journeys regularly? that can be a heavy drain on the battery? as you could be taking more charge on start then you put back in to it during the ride. so overtime it is dipping. I had that issue when i had a v short commute, the type to far to walk but really short to ride.

merlin that website is fantastic thank you. went ahead and just got mtyself a new kit. for a £10 i may as well just replace the whole thing and have it as new. thanks, now i've just gotta go buy myself some coolant... which means halfords trip exciting times !

the coolant filter definately has cracks in it, they just never resulted in a leak. It appear there is a larger one these days. Running the length of it. so i have applied some superglue along the length of it. the pipes dont have any tears in them. yes it is warmer today! In case the glue doesnt hold, im assuming a new filter isnt exactly costly?

Can i get your opinions on the below pictures: This one is the zoomed out view, the liquid is actually a green colour and seems to be comeing from the white thingy (yes thingy is a technical term ) [album]355[/album] Here it is a bit more zoomed in it seems to be coming out of the join between the white thingy and the pipe. thouyght the white thingy has lots of small cracks so im thinking maybe one finally gave and its now slowly leaking?? [album]356[/album] Can anyone shed any light on this? what might the temp fix be for this? loads of duct tape? - And im assuming the perma fix replacing the white thingy? Ultimately whats wierd is it was fine yesterday! and today it is not? nothing has happened in between! I mean i rode it pretty hard yesterday evening for about 20minutes. I did accidentally redline it changing from 1-2nd when i went into neutral mistakenly, but everything was fine after that, seemed the bike recovered from it just fine. Jack

Sounds like you've fallen foul to some serious douchebaggery. I would trust the Haynes over an ebay posting. But be conscious of model variations between version (i.e 88 vs 98), on particular components there may be subtle differences.

Was about to say the same thing. Maybe, fuels not getting to it properly? dirty fuel filter? Where you experiance losses of power before it cut out, ie the throttle was properly responding! all that points me to think of a fuel flow issue. Have you check your spark plugs?

Hi Wolf, gld to hear you r ok. consider the indicator breaking the one of the easiest introduction to motorbike repairs. so obviously do it yourself. the process will go something like this. order replcment indicator, (see ebay avoid the retailer they put faat markups!) then more than likely you will need to tke your fairing off. so look for the contact points the fairing has.. (some suggestions - see if the wing mirrors bolt on through the fairing directly to the frame, and the side edges of the fairing) it's an eyeball job really. be sure to disconnect the electric for the indicators before you lift the fairing off then you can get to your indicators freely, and it will all be pretty self explanatory - track the cables remebr what plugs in where unscrew and recscrew a nut and bolt 30-45min job tops! hope that helps

Brill cheers for the detail. It hasn't had fuel in it for the last 6days and had the filler cap and petcock out so bone dry hence the rust spots. Its not too bad, it is surface rust/ discolouration. There is fuel in it now! I may have to risk it for the week. And next week I'll have the tank off and do the shaky shaky. Bit stuck on this as I need to be riding tomorrow. And the new paint is dry but still soft so I don't fancy moving it about to much today... Catch 22 really! But anyhow thanks again at least I know how to fix it now

Amazingly in the space of a week I have noticed rust appear inside my tank. I took it off Monday and today when I looked back in it I have noticed some small rust patches. Can I still go ahead and drive around or must I attend to this immediately. I'm not to keen on wrecking my engine. I'm just amazed at how quick the stuff came up! What's the remedy - tank cleaner?

Alternatively I could come up along the a1 which means a lot less motorway for me, and meet you guys around st Neots? Just musing possibilities. If you have a pre thought route lemme know and then I can see what matches best from my end and link up.

I'm not to bothered bout timings, though dylight hours re preferable. in terms of route, my plan would have been something along the lines of avoid the m1 If you are Cambridgeshire region we could meet somewhere round Leicester and continue on from there? or or since it seems on the way melton mowbray Hehe i hear the pork pies a pretty special
