  1. most liquid cooled engines have a fan that kicks in when bike engine is up to temp. to stop it over heating,,, so could be the switch or the fan
  2. Bike engines have changed a lot from the days of my youth & sitting on my bum taking them to bits, & these days I take the easy option & give it the mechanic to sort out,,,,, But, yes give it a go,,, could be the rings as you say, or, I assume bike engines are the same design as modern cars & if so it could be the oil seals on the valve stems, so while it's in bits it would be worth while to do both,, Good Luck
  3. Have just put my fabric jacket through the washer & it looks a lot better for it,, So it now needs reproofing, lots of products to do the same job,, so what's good & what's bad,, I don't know,, just bought a can of proofing spray by Wurth So fingers crossed ???????
  4. Nice one Rick,, looks good, Wish I had one of those
  5. The fabric jacket sleeve covers the glove & wrist no problem + no draught up your arm,, well pleased the wrist strap is still in place so no chance of a lost glove... my problem with gloves is large palms, short fingers,, always end up with a load of spare leather at the end if my fingers
  6. That the cuffs are to big to go inside the sleeve of a jacket,, and to small to go over Well I cured my problem... From this http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc96/Roadtorque/IMG_0914.jpg To this http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc96/Roadtorque/IMG_0915.jpg Thanks to the lady over the road with the sewing machine
  7. One of the best disk locks & is approved by insurance companies, this will get the price down a bit, As already said a garage will make the biggest saving,, but as a new inexperienced first time rider, sorry you'll have to bite the bullet, it will come down with no claims & a few years of accident free riding, you'll be home & dry (or not depending on the weather) good luck http://www.sounddistribution.co.uk/prod ... number=134
  8. What about new plugs, they can fail as well,,,, Might show a spark on test out of the engine,, but fail when fitted & under compression,,,,
  9. Depends, middle of the tread, yes,,, side wall;s a bit iffy,,, but middle of the tread depends on the place where you take it, Mine is a car & bike tyre shop, car tyres they will plug but bike tyres they send for repair on the grounds of safety, a bike tyre being subject to greater stress than cars,, but other's will repair a bike there & then, most car tyre shops are not equipped for bikes, so you will have to take the wheel off & take it to them, Same will apply to a bike tyre bay, if they send your tyre away for repair, they don't want your bike stuck on one of their paddock stands for 2/3 days,, You could do it the other way, take the bike, have a new tyre fitted while they send yours away, then when it comes back it's a spare or replacement for if you ever get another nail,,, By the way I've got an ER as Well
  10. Just to be daft, have you just pushed it or ridden as well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,?? The reason I ask, I had new tyres fitted last year rode the bike home & put it in the garage,, Next morning was getting the bike out & could hardly move it, it was a pig turned out my lovely new tyres, the rear had a big screw in it, not a bit of air left in it,,, looking at the bike it seemed OK, the tyre held its shape, but it was a swine to push,,,, Just a thought
  11. I use Wintec 80 for bike to bike, you only need starcom if you want to connect other items, mp3, mobile phone ect, if you just want bike to bike or rider to pillion starcom is just added expense, The wintec is a good unit if your going bike to bike then I recommend the external aerial kite
  12. Like Dan I use Tom Tom, but only for car use, seems to be better than most, but even this has its little quirks, will take you from A to B but never seems to bring you back from B to A the same route as going (strange),, Sat Nav gets you there, but not always the quickest route,
  13. Yep,, I was told the same, Never use oil on any sort of lock, as it holds the crap & dirt,,,,,,, the guy explained, plain Graphite is best & in dry powder form,, So a couple of HB's & a bit of sandpaper

    can any one help

Don't,, Don't, Don't Buy a Chinese Bike,, Save your money & buy a good 2nd hand jap bike,, But don't buy Chinese, You will only buy trouble
  15. I'll go with Mr P, Have had a Nolan for last 3 yrs, a good lid, detachable lining & cheek pads so ok for the washing machine, I bought a shoei multitec early this year & was not impressed,, the helmet looks good but the nolan beat it hands down for internal fittings,, The shoei the lining is glued in, So helmet hygiene is not good
  16. Don't forget the two screw to remove the seat
  17. How times change, going back to 1958, I bought a Triumph Speed Twin 5Ta that came fully loaded, full tool kit, side stand & centre stand, So what do you get now???? an allen key,, dearest allen key I ever bought,, Mines a T100 ,,,,,,,,,,,, with allen key, of course
  18. Take it back to the ironsmith where you bought it & let him have a listen,,, he should be able to tell you whats what, there & then,, better than a load of guesswork & worry,,,,
  19. Think you have to beware of pouring anything in plug holes, I suspect the volume of the liquid poured in the plug hole will be the same as increasing the compression ratio, too much & I think there's a very good chance you could blow something with the first swing of the engine,, I don't know what it say's on the bottle/tin these days but it used to say something like feed 2ozs of redex through the carb inlet with the rev's at about 1000,,,,,don't do it in a garage & expect large clouds of white smoke,,,, But to be honest in this day & age with green fuel & modern hi tech engines I don't think it's worth the bother,,,,,,
  20. Vaseline for the front,,,,,&,,,,, a goose for the back
  21. Don't know if it's worth it rick, pull the plug & drop the oil while it's hot,let the bike stand till it stops dripping, if your on the centre stand sit on the rear seat & get the front wheel of the deck, there might be a pocket of oil left at the fwd end of crankcase, If your changing the fillter can't see the need to flush,, but that's just my opinion, no doubt someone will say different,,
  22. If it was from a dealer take it back & get them to sort it,,, If it was private deal phone the seller tell them your not happy & your bringing it back,, less than 55 miles & you've got problems,,, I would be wondering what was going to happen next if I kept it
  23. Yes ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but I also have a Bonnie
  24. Thought it was a bargain £270 http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc96/Roadtorque/IMG_0850.jpg http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc96/Roadtorque/IMG_0851.jpg Half Price down to £130 well I like it
  25. Y' don't say! I was wondering which particular horn it was So thanks for the link The horns are from busters & are better than a lot of car horns http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/pr ... 8&kw=horns think all of these type of horn are about the same perfomance, they are LOUD,, if you have a fairing then you can hide them, but a naked bike it's a bit more of a problem,, As said by W,F Halfords,, no delivery charge
