    oh frak...

Take some photos, lets see what you're dealing with.. if its just a few threads knackered, you might get away with it.
  2. Lol, have they arrived yet?? Chances of one internet bought lid fitting well is slim. Chances of two fitting is virtually non-existent!! so much more involved than the circumference of your heads!!
  3. bet they dont fit....

    oh frak...

bad idea!! the repair bill will be £250, but they will 'do you a deal' and drop the price to £200.. Art of negotiation is dead...
  5. If they have the British standard kite mark, a 30 quid lid is probably as affective as more expensive lids. Quality and finish are likely to be poor and would expect wind noise from badly fitting visor. But basic principle of hard outer shell with onetime collapsible foam lining to reduced head declaration is pretty easy to make if not worried about lightweight or wind noise. A 30 quid lid today is probably safer than a 100quid lid was 10years ago...
  6. Its not the profile that's the problem, its the tyre compound and tread patterns. My new winter tyres are low profile (45 profile) tyres. Trouble with summer tyres is that they are designed to work warm. At cold temps they go hard and grip levels drop off. Also tread pattern on summer tyres is designed for quiet running, high mileage, fuel efficient driving. Winter types Sacrifice some roadnoise and mpg for rubber that works at low temps, tread pattern that works better on water and snow.

  8. I got mine from eBay, but then later found that the place i went to get them fitted could have sold them to me cheaper (including fitting costs) so internet is not always the cheapest..
  9. Well i had 19 inch low profile Pirelli P-Zeros on my car this morning, and it was slipping and sliding on the roads like a drunk penguin! I changed them for 18" Hankook "icept Evos" and its now rock solid - no slipping and able to climb snow covered hills with ease The difference in grip levels is truly is amasing!! As for the cost, two sets of tyres used for 50% of the year means each set of tyres doe 50% less mileage so should wear 50% slower... apart from the initial outlay on wheels and tyres, the cost should balance out. As for storage, the summer wheels are stacked up in the garage they dont take much space, and wont take long to switch back onto the car in the spring - not really much hassle for phenomenally increased levels of winter grip
  10. Well they are supposed to come into their own below 7degrees Celsius, so depends where you live but here in Kent we get snow every year and some pretty cold temperatures!! Also, I just had a quick look on Wikipedia and surprised to see that Englands average cold temp is below 7degress from October through to May!! with only June to Sept having average coldest temp above 7degreess! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of ... ed_Kingdom Apparently, winter tyres have a higher Silica content than summer tyres which keeps them soft and pliable at colder temperatures, whereas summer tyres go hard and lose grip. Even on clear roads today, the difference in grip was noticeable. before i had them fitted i did some brake tests, stamping the stop pedal to see how easy it was to get the ABS to kick in. I then tried with the new winter tyres, and the grip level were a lot higher with ABS much harder to tigger. I then went and searched for snow to drive through and they were great - no problems climbing hills on uncleared, un-gritted roads... Im converted!!
  11. I bought some snow tyres for my car today - made a huge difference!! the difference in grip between proper winter tyres and the tyres i had on there is incredible - I've been out all afternoon looking for snowy hills to drive up and not found one i cant now climb!! On one hill I casually drove past some pretty bemused looking pedestrians who looked amased when they had to get out of the road (on their sledges) to let me pass as they presumable didnt think i would make it up the hill!! Its one thing those crazy Europeans do right - they have two sets of tyres, one set for summer and one set for winter... Im a convert now, wont catch me driving about in the Winter on summer tyres again!!
  12. Another vote for BT023 from me They are dual compound tyres, harder wearing in the middle for good mileage, and softer on the sides where you need the grip...
  13. Do you really need to buy two helmets right away? if the 2nd one is for your daughter, you's be better off getting some riding hours in before taking her out on the back - you dont want her to think her dad is useless at riding bikes!! So spend the full £140 on a good helmet for yourself, and in the summer, if you feel up to taking your daughter for a ride, take her into a shop and get her a helmet professionally fitted... bad fitting helmets will not only ruin the experience for her, but could also be very dangerous in the event of an accident.. Theres an old saying - "you put a 50quid helmet on a 50quid head..." Now, i've never met her, but im pretty sure your daughter's head is worth more than that!!
  14. Might still be a good idea to use some heatshrink tubing to keep the water out.. I tried to take the camera apart to see if i could solder the wires in, but there are no visible screws so i think its all glued/potted together.
  15. One problem i can think of, you unscrew the end of the camera to access the USB socket and memory card. To permanently attach to the bike, you would need to figure out a way to connect the USB cable in a manner thats waterproof as the screw on end wont fit with the cable attached
  16. im planning the same thing! my ACP20 can be configured to stop recording when the power cuts, and start recording when power is restored. Not tried it yet though...
  17. I understand what you are saying and you have a fair point.I have a friend who worked for a leading motorcyle accessories chain who have now gone out of business. He stated that one of the reasons was because of high mark ups on products. My priority is the safety of myself and my daughter who will be on the back of my bike on occasion. With the cashflow restrictions I have,I can not afford a quality helmet unless I buy online.Where I live there are two motorcycle dealers who sell accessories and both are out of my price bracket. What sort of price range, and what sort of helmet are you looking for??
  18. I bought a full set of biking gear from the web, had to send it all back because none fitted, went to a shop, tried on a load of stuff, bought it, and got all the same stuff Cheaper than internet prices just for being a little cheeky and asking if they had any discounts on at the time.. So, my advice, do your research on prices, then buy all your stuff in one hit and haggle a discount. Bike shops need all the business they can get!!
  19. Only way that's going fast is off a cliff - a bit more work needed i reckon!! keep us posted, looks like a proper interesting build!!
  20. well if they can get tracking info from this GPS device, good luck to them - i certainly cant, because it doesn't actually contain any GPS tracking hardware!!!! think its a classic case of Chinese badly translated to English...
  21. LOL, i broke my toe when i fell off my DT50 when i was 10 years old. the bike was far too big for me, even with a chunk of foam cut out of the seat. the bike landed on my big toe and crushed it. I was on crutches for a week!! still looks bent now... LOL
  22. Expecting some bike/tool/mechanic related injuries too.. couldn't think where else to put it!
  23. Im a keen DIY'er but i always seem to hurt myself!! Pretty sure im not the only one on here who hurts themself so though it would be fun to start a thread to compre DIY/Mechanic injuries!!! Im in the the process of boarding out my loft to make some more storage space. Last weekend i got a giant splinter about the size of a cocktail stick, and this weekend i was sawing some wood, when the saw jumped and sliced through my thumbnail in half! [album]605[/album]
  24. BT023 are very good tyres. I have them on my gixxer. Don't be too concerned about lean angle, we hang off the bike to allow it to stay more upright. If youre leaning it right over and not hanging off, youre not riding properly.. http://www.visordown.com/reviews/kit/ty ... /5163.html
  25. LOL, does he know?? Looking good though, you'll be in there for a while digging your way out by the looks of things!
