If you really want to be noticed by cars behind, consider fitting a brake light flasher unit.. if this doesn't get their attention, nothing will!! ">
  2. "No idea what you're talking about officer, whats a camera van??.... Oh did, i flash my headlights?? i was trying to squirt my windscreen - i thought i was out of washer fluid, but maybe i pulled the wrong stalk how silly of me LOL".....
  3. its called "Debate", not "Disagreement" LOL! Before you start taking stuff apart, get a can of spray brake cleaner and give them a good blasting..!!
  4. sorry but I don't agree to a degree! I tried bog standard EBC on mine and they where dog shit!! they was soft as hell and just didn't work well at all!! Try going for OEM some sintered are hard on discs and will cause the issue not all are hard on discs though they have got better over the years OEM for me too - will never touch EBC pads again after i had the friction material sheer off the metal back plates on a set of EBC red stuff pads... (was on a car, not a bike, but same principle and probably same material and manufacturing process)
  5. Falling off you bike because you grab too much front brake is panicking.. having a reflex reaction to brake when you see a speed van is pretty sensible thing to have and has saved my licence many times from the evil money grabbing cash wagons.
  6. Not blaming them, just questioning their purpose in life! As for poor observation, i dont think i was even speeding when i saw it, Its just that my reflex was to hit the brakes as soon as i did see it, and thats my point, gut reaction is to brake, regardless of who is behind, road conditions etc etc. so there is a good chance Camera vans could easily cause more accidents than they prevent.
  7. Not all are front facing!! new set of the Yellow Average speed cameras which alternate in direction have been installed on the M25... not sure if they are active yet... but its yet another road thats going to be boring as hell...
  8. Police camera vans were out in force today - they always seem to be loads of them around during the run up to Xmas. I know the Police dont get the revenue from the camera vans, but i wouldn't mind betting there is some annual target they need to reach to justify the running costs of the vans.. In fact I would be almost more annoyed if there was not a yearly target, as they are tax payer funded, so if they dont make economic sense (cost more to run than they make back in fines), it would just be another example of wasted tax payers money... Anyway, I was driving my car on the A31, and noticed loads of new 60mph signs. for those that dont know, the A31 is twin lane, dual carriageway, so perfectly safe at national speed limit (and over!). I was in my car, i came over the brow of a hill and immediately saw a camera van in the distance. My instinct reaction was to hit the brakes!! The guy following behind me (quite closely!), not realising why i braked so sharply, indicated right and pulled out round me. Then he too noticed the van and he too braked sharply!! So there we both were, two abreast on a two lane dual carriageway just come over the brow of a hill, and both on the brakes, slowed to about 40mph... So my question is, how does the presence of that van make that road safer?? it doesnt. it just causes observant motorist like myself to hit the brakes the intant we see that van, and unobservant drivers to possibly ram us from behind! Yes there were 60mph signs everywhere, but had i missed a drop to 40mph?? I wouldn't put it past the sneaky b*stards to have slipped in one 40mph sign amongst all of the 60mph signs, just to catch us out and make more money for the Governemt at Xmas....
  9. Its the "fifth amendment" in US constitutional law. in the UK we have the "Privilege against self incrimination", and "The right to remain silent"... so if stopped for flashing other road users, keep your mouth shut! they cant beyond reasonable doubt (required for conviction) prove that you were attempting to warn other motorists of the speed trap... you could have accidentally flashed the lights - maybe you were trying to operate the window squirters...
  10. Ho about this for a proposal.... Two sets of speed limits!! The current speed limits for the people who cant drive, and no speed limits for people who drive regularly and who have proven to be safe by combination of regular mileage covered, accident free and advanced driving tests etc etc.. and who pay a premium per year for de-restricted entitlement (money earner to keep the government happy) Unrestricted drivers then required to have "black box" fitted, and in the event of an accident, if speed is deemed to be the main contributing factor and they are driving over the limit, they lose their de-restricted licences (for 12 months) as they have proved they are not yet worthy! Obviously needs some further thought and fine tuning, but i would gladly pay (say £500 per year) to be allowed to drive at whatever speed i deemed suitable for the situation!
  11. truly amazing that many bikers moan when they don't get a "nod" from a passing biker, yet from the results of this pole it seem most wont warn passing bikers that they are riding into a money grabbing speed trap!! Double standards???
  12. So where do they draw the line?? I would argue that every Sat-Nav manufacture who shows locations of speed traps is also breaking the law, as are the police themselves who publish the locations on the internet. or do they deem electronic means of notification to be acceptable?? surely lights are electronic too... i reckon with a better legal team (ie not himself!) he could have got off that charge pretty easily, and embarrassed the CPS for bringing it to court in the first place!
  13. ride past in a really low gear so making lots of noise to confuse the copper into thinking im going 1000mph. yep i notify anyone i can, also often post speed traps on Twitter too, local community here appreciate it
  14. Great forum promotion opportunity - hand flyers out for the forum at the event!
  15. what years is it??? not wishing to scare you, but you might want to read this: http://www.stuntbums.com/articles/837/o ... x-6r-forks probably wont apply as you wont be doing crazy stunts for a while! Oh, but get a hugger - saves loads of cleaning
  16. Is the chain too tight?? Have you checked the coolant level? Something not right...
  17. I asked for some samples of the PlasFloor tiles.. they arrived yesterday.. First impressions - they are very good quality, made from tough plastic, and plenty hard wearing for garage floor use... they are smaller than i expected, i think its 25 to 1sqm (5x5) its not going to be cheap, but i think it will give a good quality, hard wearing, long lasting finish without the bother of pouring screed, and getting messy with paint etc, so i may well be ordering some soon!... Oh, and as you can see from the photo, my crazy Labrador puppy got hold of them.. they survived well, so they must be tough!! EDIT: just noticed, this is the back of the tiles, the top surface has the PlasFloor logo in the middle. Floor tiles eaten by lab puppy.
  18. How far will the valve poke out?? any chance you might catch it on curbs etc? snapping the valve off could make a real mess...
  19. Nope never tried it myself, just a crazy "outside the box" idea that might save an engine full of swarf.. Try this link though, other people fixing sumps with chemical metal. http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic ... -metal-fix If it sets hard enough to allow you to tighten the sump plug (and you can test that when you tighten the bolt) i see no reason it why it wouldn't last... just an idea

  21. How would I change oil in the future then? Weld the nut over the hole, to allow a bolt to be screwed in and out for oil changes. So find a nut and bolt, place nut over hole, apply loads of chemical metal around the nut to bond it to the sump - no drilling, no chance of swarf falling into the engine...
  22. Ok, thinking a bit 'outside the box' here, but could you not weld a nut over the hole?? maybe even use a big blob of that Chemical Metal stuff?? ive heard of people fixing cracked sumps with it, no idea how long it would last though...
  23. I initially thought those dovetail style rubber tiles would work out quite expensive, thats why i was looking at a DIY screed/epoxy/painted floor as I figured it might be cheaper. However, from what you've said, pouring a new floor might be a huge amount of effort, so when i compare the price of rubber tiles with the cost of paying some blokes to pour me a new floor, the rubber tiles might work out the cheaper options.. These PlasFloor tiles are about 18squid per sqm: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Plasfloor-PVC ... 119&_uhb=1
  24. Did you seize it up or come to a stop as soon as the rear tyre started to get oiley?? if you were quick enough stopping, you probably got away with it. Forget below 45mph.. Whats it like top end?? are you sure you're not just getting used to the bike and feeling low down flat spots? what revs are you doing?? if the engine was knackered it wouldn't pull to the red line nicely.. give it a thrashing - you already suspect a dead motor, so nothing to lose
  25. This stuff you mean?? http://www.costco.co.uk/view/product/uk ... 8.1/565749 2 rolls of this would do the job, although its only thin, would need to make sure surface was flat before laying it else it might split..
