RasPi is overkill for these types of project. Maybe take a look at something like this: https://www.olimex.com/Products/Duino/A ... e-hardware Small, cheap, opensource so loads of helpful resources to help you get started.
  2. Let's see what I can do. I have a great photo of him sat on my bike with his dragon tail between his legs like a massive colourful dong!! I feel its only right that the same bike is there to see him off... Hoping I can make it, but can't guarantee at the moment.

    The new Pi zero?
  8. I took my old board for a spin a couple of weeks ago. Took it to the park and was skating around a tennis court. Indy trucks,Powel peralta wheels, deathbox grip tape, on a custom deck i bought from RonJons whilst on holiday in Florida. It's got to be over 25 years old but I was still zooming round the court. Tried a couple of tricks but my legs dont have the instance burst of energy needed to do a respectable Ollie!
  9. People who get in lifts, press their button for their floor, then stand in front of the buttons so you have to reach round them to press your button! Get in, press the button then move out the way you morons!!

I was going to have a go at making a power commander-like device. Intercept the injector signals, crank and throttle position sensor and adjust the injector time just as a power commander does. That's first step toward a full ECU. First step was going to be to just gather the data, effectively piggybacking the bikes ECU to determine the existing maps, then build the circuitry to control the injectors.

Haha, same. I have one wired into my router at home. Had big plans for it but never got anything started. It's been "soak testing" for the last year! This new little PI zero is a lot smaller. I'm thinking it would make a nice data logger for bikes.

  13. There are some GPRS only trackers but they are useless (I bought one to try) I assumed he meant GPS that use GPRS to tansmit their location, ie a GPS tracker with simcard.

yeah its cool. fingerprint reader is very cool. battery is not much better than the Nexus 5. No wireless charging, and needed to buy a load of USB-C cables to charge it. only real complaint is that the volume has moved to the right side (used to be on the left on the Nexus5) oh and dont buy the genuine case, the furry back give your fingers carpet burn!

I hate apple. They are the only tech company who feel the need to have a repair centre on every high Street. OSX claims to be the world's most advanced operating system, but its basically just Linux, and invariably its simpler to perform a task in windows than it is on OSX. OSX is just not intuitive at all. However, as i said before, I have yet to find a windows laptop that's as well constructed and ticks as many boxes as a macbook pro. Why can't other manufacturers make good laptops??

Currently contracting for a large American financial institution in the city of London. I have access to realtime trading data and other business sensitive data, so security is very tight. No USB access and no code allowed off work machines onto personal devices. These days my macbook is for private development projects or for keeping my skills sharp. I get home from a long day in the office, fire up the macbook and work on my own stuff. I have a few projects on the go mostly hosted on Google cloud platform. Loads of the Google stuff has excellent examples for the Mac which is another strong case for macs. I refuse to own an iPhone. Android all the way. Just got the new nexus 5x (had the 5 and 4 previously so I'm a big nexus fan) and downloaded the new version of android studio to have a play about - runs flawlessly on the Mac. No self respecting IT person should own a locked down device like an iPhone IMO! An no time for games - games take up valuable coding time!!

Im curious have you installed windows on it then? Or are you working on a none windows network? Or maybe i should ask what are you calling serious IT work? These are serious questions by the way im curious? Running windows in parallels for visual studio (C# development) and Excel vba and addon development. I have office for Mac installed too but its crap. SQL server also running on windows. I do a lot of python development, I use PyCharm IDE from JetBrains but I run that Mac. Also have mysql and mamp running on Mac. Macs instant boot time, compact size, SSD, i7 processor, long battery, with retina screen and backlit keyboard, make it a great portable development machine. They are sturdy, well built machines. Ive not found a windows laptop that feels as well built. I never network it to corporate networks, the places I work don't allow that.

My macbook pro retina is the only apple device I allow in the house. Nothing wrong with macbook pros for serious IT work.

  23. I've tried a few out. Some are good, others are useless. The one unlike best is the TLT2. It comes in a couple of variants one is waterproof. Get the waterproof one! (Think its the tlt2-h) Also GiffGaff sim works well. £5 goody bag each month.
  24. need to clarify, are you talking about gearbox oil or two-stroke oil? premium quality two-stroke oil is generally fully synth.
  25. I'm actually lost for words... Aaron and me shared a lot of laughs at the TMBF rallies - lots of happy memories there. LittleCat, Ohjay, so sorry for your loss - i know you guys were very close to the lad so if there's anything we can do, just let us know. It's true what they say, only the good die young... Rest in peace my friend, rest in peace...
