Guest Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 I took my CBT today and got sent home early I thought it would be ok but I kept stalling and fell off twice! The other person who had never been on a bike before, managed it fine. I'm just worried that I won't be allowed on the roads again next time (I'm taking it again in two weeks). Did anyone else take more than one go to get to grips with the CBT? Any advice (apart from not stalling!) you could give me?I feel like a bit of a moron... :S Quote
matty6660 Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Stalling is absolutly normal. I passed my CBT ages ago and I still stall my bike on the roads... Everyone stalls now and again. Not stalling will come with experience. If you can get to a bike before your next CBT, try and get a bit of practice in on a private area and just practice clutch control and slow movements. Good luck. Quote
Hoody Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 My missus had never ridden before, fluffed first attempt, went back a week later and passed. It isn't easy to start with (and remember you NEVER stop learning anyway!) Quote
rennie Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 if you can't get to practice, on private land, on a motorbike, practice slow manoeuvres, u turns etc on a pedal bike!trust me!, it works.also! look where you want to go not where you don't. Quote
Guest Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Yeah always look ahead! Also with stalling, try to give slightly more throttle and slip the clutch more.. Your on a 125 so it wont shoot off (i had that mental problem to over come and once i did was fine...although i still stalled alot ) Goodluck for next time! Oh and dont let the nerves get to you, its just a fun day on an motorbike Quote
Guest Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Lol Don't worry, you're not a moron - riding a motorbike for the first time is hard! Have a read about my first experience here, it might make you feel better!Relax, take it easy and try to enjoy the day. I treated CBT as like one of those activity days where you get to play with a quad bike, fire a bow & arrow or shoot at clay pigeons - but with motorbikes instead. Quote
Hywel Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Stick at it, I've heard plenty of cases where people will feel useless on their first go, turn up for the second time feeling like they have nothing to loose and stomping through it. Keep the revs busy and let the clutch out slow! Quote
ricky_v Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I stalled 8 times right before we went on the road, mainly coz i was nervous but also there was a massive hill to go up stalling, etc happens to the best of us, dont worry about it Quote
Guest Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Just nerves, you're over that now, go back in two weeks and ride the bike Quote
Guest Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 my first time on the road i cried lol Quote
Ratser Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 On my CBT I kept stalling and didn't know why. Then it was pointed out that I should really take my foot off the back brake when I want to move Quote
Guest Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Lol I'm still doing that now... the back brake on my Fazer is *much* more powerful than the other bikes I've ridden, so I only have to be gently resting my foot in the wrong place and I'm going nowhere... Quote
Susieque Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Just keep at it! I went back a second time to get my CBT cos I was really nervous.I'm sure you'll get the hang of it! Quote
uktriggersm50 Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 if i am correct CBT= compulsary basic TRAINING that means he/she has to give you sufficient training and also just request to use a scooter if you keep stalling worry about the gears afterwards Quote
JoshRS Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 my first time on the road i cried lol I cried afterwards when i aqua planed and nearly crashed into parked cars (after i had passed the CBT )My dad was following on his bike and gave me a bollocking for it, i cried more. Quote
