with low maintenance they can do that, its happened thru vibration slowly turning them as you ride, its probably been happening for a few weeks and you aint noticed, its what happens when the thread on the bolt slowly gets smaller than the thread on the nut.

nothing major and can be found in most breakers

Probably called something like 'chain tensioner plate'

No shouldnt really fall off and as mentioned vibration has probably loosened the nuts

The reason for having two nuts is so that once the first nut has tensioned the chain to the correct aligned position the second nut is then tightenened against the first as its held in place in order to lock it.

It will if some little hoody with a spanner needs one for his bike,, they're not the sort of thing that falls off,, one nut vibrating off down that length of rusty thread,,,,, is doubtfull, but two nuts, hard to believe,,,

I'm with RT on this... two nuts going loose and working their way off?

Oh and yeah, maintain your chain ;)

If the locking nut (outside one) was loose then they both could have fallen off .

I was checking over my bike the other day and noticed a Mudguard nut missing so I thought i would go over the whole bike and when I did I found many Nuts and allen screws loose.

I was Very suprised, so now I will check these things every week or so .
