me and rebel rach spent an afternoon at donington with the ron haslam race school.

i would have to recommend it to anyone who fancies a track day but doesn't want to risk crashing their own bike.

the cost was £289 for the afternoon. and that includes everything you need including the bike, leathers, helmet, gloves, boots.

you get 3 x 15 minute track sessions with debrief/instruction in between sessions. it works on a 1 instructor to two student ratio and all of the instructors are current/ex racers.

this is the second time i have done this race school but the first was at silverstone last year; in my opinion the full donington track is much better.

it was rach's first time on a track and she loved it. there were 12 other blokes in our group she was faster than the lot of them.

my highlight was chatting to leon haslam and bump starting his bike for him as his battery was flat. well, he did have a broken leg and very bad limp ( herr flick of the gestappo) so i'll let him off lol. didnt stop him thrashing a blade around the track with his dad though. awesome to watch those two in action.

heres a couple of pics of me making the 2013 (dull and totally gutless) cbr600rr look tiny.

Wow, hats off to ya Rach!!

Sounds like a grand day, did you all have the same bikes? Still manage to have fun on the gutless bike? And yup, it looks like a mini moto with you on it!!

they do two schools.

the premier class; 2013 cbr600rr.

the elite class; 2013 cbr1000rr with datalogging and 1 on 1 tuition. it costs an extra £100 but yo get more track time.

so yes, everyone in our group was on the same type of bike.

they also offer a type of school too called the on track experience, which is aimed at new riders. basically teaches proper bike control to those who want to improve their riding. minimum age is 12 so i guess my eldest son will be pestering for this next year lol

lol. cheers bob.

it would be a laugh to have a tmbf day at a race school. however, even with a group discount i imagine the cost would put an end to that idea.

Thanks for the feedback on this as its something I'm seriously considering booking very soon.

Can I just ask what the deal was in regards to crashing their bike? Is there an insurance waiver (or similar) included?

Or do they take a large deposit beforehand as security?

Thanks.

If you bin their bike, then it's your experience over. They won't let you back on track. No upfront fees.

The info was correct when I attended in 2007. You could always give them a call.

Never knew this existed.

Might have to have a look into doing it! :D

Thanks Deso, yeah I'll give them a call to get finer details.

But that's interesting... No deposit taken etc. Just that the course is stopped if you crash out.

I always try accounting for the worse case scenario.
