Glorian Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Got to get on and do it saturday it is in dire need of it now!Unfortunately i don't own a paddock stand as of yet, can anyone recomend any other ways (Aside from running it up and down my drive) to turn the chain while i clean it? Quote
megawatt Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Sometimes you can use two axle stands and a piece of wood under the swingarm. Clean chain with paraffin using a soft brush, use a chain cleaner on A towel to finish and then I use muc off ptfe dry lube. Quote
Glorian Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 Was likely to hold it up using bricks if i didn't get any ideas haha! cheers =) Also that's same lube i picked, expensive from halfrauds... like everything. Quote
megawatt Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Get yerself a paddock stand with rubber pads that fit under the swingarm, about 30 quid. Quote
Glorian Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 Do have one on order, but gonna be a little while, and cna't find one at any nearby shops for a reasonable price and i really left this to late! Quote
Joeman Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Do have one on order, but gonna be a little while, and cna't find one at any nearby shops for a reasonable price and i really left this to late! have you got a garage with a strong roof? i used to tie a bit of rope round the rafters and around the seat and lift my old 125 bikes up in the air. Bit wobbly, but it worked! Quote
megawatt Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 If you do tie it to the roof, make sure that the tie points at both ends are as far apart as possible! Quote
Glorian Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 Haha no chance of that happening will have to find something to rest it on, only needs to hold for a few minutes. Quote
Joeman Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 If you do tie it to the roof, make sure that the tie points at both ends are as far apart as possible! sounds like you might have tried it too!! Quote
DreamytimeEscorts Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I lift mine on to the side stand and move the back wheel round with my right foot. Quote
Tango Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Get a Scottoiler.....saves all this farting about....... Quote
Smokin Joe Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Turn the bike upside down. Worked with my push bikes. Quote
megawatt Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 You said "only needs to hold for a few minutes."FFS, only takes a second to fall over and cause months and pounds worth of damage.!!! Some bikes you can lift the back wheel by putting on side stand and jacking up so that rear wheel lifts off ground. Sometimes it works , but usually a bit too wobbly for my liking. Get a strong mate to help ya. Quote
Glorian Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 After much hassle and work (and finding my paddock stand wouldn't fit) i got a jack, and lifted the bike up while my dad held the bike from toppling over. took about 10 minutes to clean chain though i think i need to do it again properly when im not being rushed then dry lubed it up, looks much better now! Mr Fro Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I lift mine on to the side stand and move the back wheel round with my right foot. What he said. Quote
Glorian Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 Turn the bike upside down. Worked with my push bikes. No. Quote
Adam Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I just push my bike forward clean and lube, push it forward a bit more and repeat the process until it's all done. Also did you check your chain tension? I learnt the hard way because I didn't check mine.... Quote
Glorian Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 Hmm i didn't actually... will check that when i get home should only have a little give right? Quote
