fullscreenaging Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 When I had to give up biking the missus and I got rid of most of our gear...Well now a bike is on the horizon I have sorted our gear out on the net and saved a massive £530 on RRP on 2 lids, a new pair of pants for me, a 2 piece and a pair of boots for my better half!!My missus lid, bought from Lids direct. Great service. Ordered on the 28th Jan and came next day with the free delivery option. Saved £220 on this baby! One of the best designs I've seen for a woman's lid. The pics don't do it justice Her RST track tech evo boots from Amazon. £30 saving on these. On their way. Buse ladies 2 piece suit from fc-moto.de. Saved £30 on this. On its way from Germany My pants. I thought I'd kept both parts of my Joe Rocket 2 piece, but late last year I just couldn't find my pants so looked for ages to replace them. Finally found a pair from Infinity motorcycles for half price, saving £100. I got a new pair of gloves while I was at it. No saving here. Again great service and next day delivery for free as the order was over £100 My lid. I nearly got an Arai RX GP7 to replace the RX7 I used to own as I'd seen one on the net with a saving of £230. However I nipped into a local bike dealer to to try a Shoei Quest ST on but they didn't have any in my size. So I tried a newer Shark model as I'd owned an S800 in the past. Tried the speed r on but it was way too big! Anyway John suggested I tried the HJC R-PHA 10 Plus on......Wow! What a fit and immediately unbelievably comfortable. Bloody light too, weighing in at an incredible 1200g!So I went away and did some research as I'd never even entertained this make before. Lorenzo wears this model as did Ben Spies. SHARP only give them a 3 Star rating as the side impact apparently let's it down, but I don't give shit as it the most comfortable lid I've ever worn. I then went looking for the best deal and found one on fc-moto.de saving me £150 off what the dealer were selling them for! Just the bike left now. Got my eye on few, but it will be 2-3 months yet... Ian_1986 Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Some good savings there it pays to shop around. Tempted to order some stuff myself but i no something wont be right and i would have to mess around sending things back especially with helmets etc.Interested on what you think of the rst boots have been looking at these myself. Joeman Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Some good bargains.. But one thing I dont approve of is using high street shops to try stuff on and then ordering the same product online. If the sales guys take their time to help you out its only fair you buy from them. All shops are well aware they can be undercut by internet prices which is why the sticker price on biking gear is always negotiable and when you factor in postage and packing prices, high street prices can actually be cheaper than online prices if you haggle a bit.Yes many shops also sell online, but if we all only used shops as fitting rooms, they would soon start to disappear. That would be very sad.. Quote

Its worth paying the extra to check the fitting in store and get a feel of the item. Quote

Also, it keeps them in business and I'd much rather be able to nip down there to grab something than fanny about on the internet.I agree i personally couldn't go to a shop to try out clothing and spend time with an assistant to find the right size and then just leave and buy it cheaper online. fullscreenaging Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 I guess you guys like throwing your money away. I have no qualms in saving myself over £500 by shopping on the net. Quote
Joeman Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I guess you guys like throwing your money away. I have no qualms in saving myself over £500 by shopping on the net. I use the net for loads of stuff as its cheaper for many things, but if i walk into someones business and take up their valuable time trying stuff on and asking them for their expert advice, I feel its a little out of order to then go away and purchase the same item elsewhere without even give them the opportunity to match the lower price. If we all did that, there would be no highstreet shops!! stewslash Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 sometimes it's better to give the online retailer a call to place your orderI was after some rizoma stuff just this morning , and I thought I'd call to check stock as their web site was vague on stock levelsAnyway I gave them a call and they offered me a bit more discount if I ordered right then over the phone saved me £15 All clothing I buy is from local shops so I can try the gear on first, lids being the most important to try before you buy Quote
dispersion Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Went into the megastore, in swindon today. Correct me if I am wrong but this used to be gorge whites I think. Anyway, they had loads of stock, but no one ever asked me if I wanted help, and when I asked about a gsxr I got a one word answer of a shrug! This would be the only time I would try something on and buy elsewhere!Even with bikes, I noticed today looking at gsxr the man was quite helpful, Kawasaki completely ignored me, as did yamaha, Honda told me to wait until march...(.all I was asking was what do they have to offer at the moment). But the kind gent in triumph just ended up chatting to me for about an hour about anything and everything.Even though if I do end up buying a bike from him it may well be 1-2 or maybe 300 quid more, he was the one who managed to grab my attention and there was no pressure etc...Sorry if this went off topic, but I am all for saving money, but I appreciate the art of a salesman and someone spending time and sharing knowledge...Just found every showroom so different today, was surprised. Joeman Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Know what you mean. I get ignored in bike showrooms quite a lot. I have to be smartly dressed for my work all week so at weekend i tend to dress down...I guess in my scruffy weekend gear I dont look like I can afford to buy much... Or maybe they are all mind readers and can tell I'm just there to browse.I've found the best way to get noticed is to climb onto a bike and start leaning it from side to side. The sales guys virtually sprint over to see what's going on Quote

This might be the normal thing to do but i always get asked but only ever held a full license. Also, I did notice when I am quite smartly dressed i get spoken to or if I am with a girl.....maybe they think your just going to throw your cash at them to show off Quote
