Classickid21 Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Hi you hear of Data Tagging and other secure markings, well I stumbled along a eBay Auction £15-25 Gprs Tracking you put a pay as you go sim in. and put credit on it etc. how accurate are these ? are they any good YAY OR NAY do I waste my money on them ? I was looking to buy a hand full of them basically one for each bike I will be looking to Data Tag my bikes soon too. Quote
Hoggs Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 I'm not sure how accurate they are, but I've heard that now you have to put credit on PAYG sims quite regularly or they cut you off (unlike the good ole days where you could stick a tenner on there and it would last forever)? Quote
Joeman Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 I've tried a few out. Some are good, others are useless. The one unlike best is the TLT2. It comes in a couple of variants one is waterproof. Get the waterproof one! (Think its the tlt2-h)Also GiffGaff sim works well. £5 goody bag each month. Quote
Classickid21 Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 Thank you for all your oppions ill look online Quote
Igloo Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 What is GPRS ??? GPS tracking solutions for vehicles (or well anything really).Allows the location to be uploaded so it can be tracked in the case of theft etc. Quote
Stu Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 General packet radio service And not global position sensor There is a difference between the two Quote
Igloo Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 GPRS is General Packet Radio Service.GPS is Global Positioning Service.GPRS allows data packets to be transmitted over the cellular network. It's what edge, 3G, 4G are pinned by. Quote
Tango Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 GPRS....... you can get trackers that you put a phone sim into and the bike is tracked using the GPRS ..... Quote
Igloo Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 GPRS....... you can get trackers that you put a phone sim into and the bike is tracked using the GPRS ..... Teeeeeeechnically.....GPS and GPRS... It uses a combination of the GPS data from the satellites and also the GPRS cell towers to work out location. Means that signal blockers are harder to use. Quote
Joeman Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 There are some GPRS only trackers but they are useless (I bought one to try)I assumed he meant GPS that use GPRS to tansmit their location, ie a GPS tracker with simcard. Quote
Dav3y Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Also GiffGaff sim works well. £5 goody bag each month. Key point here. Most GPRS GPS trackers require a 2G SIM card as above or one of these Quote
