Booked a lesson for him at xscape in Cas next week.please any recommendations about boards most appreciated. We saw some at the coast in Scarborough last week in a specialist skater shop for 80 quid. He said they were good beginners boards. But as I say no idea.He watches that dydrek?? And then the skater apparell.........I just hope you win the lottery........ Edd Posted November 28, 2015 Share Posted November 28, 2015 I used to skate in my teens..but that was 15 years ago so this info will probably be out of date! £80 should be a pretty good set up for a beginner.Get a good pair of skate shoes..they're pricey...but its false economy to buy cheap ones as they wear out very quickly!NMB bearings are the best to keep things moving, but if they feel too loose whilst he's learning Abec 7's have a little more resistance. I used to use Santa Cruz decks, Pig wheels and Indy trucks. It's not the cheapest of hobbies (the bigger the steps he starts jumping, the more likely he is to break decks/trucks!) but good exercise! Ive been known to rock my skills on my 5 year olds Angry Birds skateboard...he's always impressed, but his mother just rolls her eyes... Took it to the park and was skating around a tennis court.Indy trucks,Powel peralta wheels, deathbox grip tape, on a custom deck i bought from RonJons whilst on holiday in Florida. It's got to be over 25 years old but I was still zooming round the court. Tried a couple of tricks but my legs dont have the instance burst of energy needed to do a respectable Ollie! They reckoned it should see him good for a couple of years. Cost about £90 ??? Seemed to be the going rate.Also got him one of those mini bmx things. winchman Posted December 11, 2015 Share Posted December 11, 2015 I hope he enjoys it, the parks are the best place as he will struggle with certain things,but its also an age thing as the kids just seem to get the co ordination better at a certain age, I was told this by the bloke in the shop when mine started but the bloke in the shop was spot on he his about 12 or 13 and was a lot better.
