guitarjon Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Been thinking about doing it a while now (my bike test). Never riden a bike before. I usually hate November time of year as people start asking what I want for Xmas. Earlier this year, I had everything I'd ever want as I had a little boy and for the first time in ages I really didn't want anything. I told people to get me antiperspirant....Now I've brought up the bike idea up with the wife I really wish I'd asked people for bike stuff like helmet, gloves money towards stuff... Looks like I'll be getting it all myself now anyway. Quote
fq-craigus Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 You have generous family and friends if you think they would buy you lid, gloves etc lol. Good luck with tests etc Quote

Good luck with tests etc My wife would buy me a lid. I wouldn't go crazy but I'll be looking for a new one. The rest I'm happy to have second hand. These are my first things so I wouldn't be spending more than £30 on gloves tops. Probably less and money all go towards things. I tend to get stuff that a few people have put into. I've been pretty lucky in the past and got stuff I didn't expect people to go out and buy. Hey if people ask don't beat around the bush! My sister has crazy spending habits... Quote
NeilM Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Jon.look in the for sale section. Nice AGV helmet on there Quote
Hoggs Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I wouldn't be spending more than £30 on gloves tops. ... If you're planning on riding in the rain I'd suggest spending a tad more to get some with gortex/drytex /nonbrandtex wet cold hands make you miserable really really quickly Quote

I have 6 pairs of gloves now 4 are waterproof but only one set of those keeps my hands dry.... It was getting a design that works for me.I know my gear has changed over last year as L learned what I want. Quote
Joeman Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 For the price of 6pairs, you could have bought one good winter pair and one good summer pair..Buy cheap, buy twice... Or six times! Quote

Not going to disagree to much but, it seems gloves are a bit of a fetish of mine...Set 1 Where ok but I stuffed the lining up when wet and never got it straight again (Leaving them outside the garage in a puddle over night did not help)...Set 2 are gortex but I cannot get my gear to seal round them so I either have a wet sleeve or or the glove slowly fills up. Warm and easy to put on and off when cold.Set 3 are summer glovesSet 4 are lidels best and are very warm but again same problem in rain.Set 5 where given to me and are leather medium weight summer glovesSet 6 are gortex with inner cuff and outer cuff (inner cuff stops water going in the glove, outer cuff stops it going up my sleeve) brilliant in the rain and long rides but swines to put on and off round town..About the only ones I do not use often are set 1...
