JoshTimmins Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Anyone used any Gel seat pads or can recommend something similar? The SV isn't the most comfortable for my backside (due to the fact my rear end is non existent and pretty much just bone) so looking for a comfier seat. Was looking at an aftermarket seat but then i'm looking at a £200+, these may be a cheaper option. I was looking at something like the below:http://www.getgeared.co.uk/Touring_Accessories/Motorcycle_Seat_PadsThanks in advance! Quote

fullscreenaging Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 google tony archer seats he will do you a seat cheaper than £200 I'll second that.I've just had my seat done by Tony Archer at Xmas time.He does a postal service. Just post it to him, he'll do the work you have spoken about on the phone, ring you (or email, can't remember which) when he's done. You call him and pay, he then posts it back you.Quality work! Guest Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I see no ones mentioned air hawk...Superior to anything else out there for comfort. Quote
JoshTimmins Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 Just had a look at the airhawk Phil, looks pretty good. I may well purchase one until I can get the seat done. Cheers mate Quote
whitedevil Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Ive got one of those gel seat topper things that straps to the top of your seat. I didnt like it, you dont feel connected to the bike its like you're sitting on a water bed. Im in the process of buying a spare seat base to build a custom gel seat with it which should be a lot better.Just looked at those airhawks HOWMUCH!!! just for some oversized bubblewrap, i think it would have the same problem with not feeling connected to the bike as you would be sitting on a cushion of air bobbing around. Might be alright if you just plod around on a cruiser though. Quote
RantMachine Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Cycling shorts cheap as chips on EbayI've seen this recommended in the past and am strongly considering giving it a go! Considering it's ~10% of the price of a new seat, it seems worth a shot Quote
fullscreenaging Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 The only problem with cycling shorts is that they don't breath so well under your bike pants.....Sweaty gonads anyone? Quote
Guest Posted March 7, 2016 Posted March 7, 2016 Just looked at those airhawks HOWMUCH!!! Thats a pretty normal reaction... and so the type of people who will happily spend £16000 on a bike, but balk at paying a £100+ for something thats only going to be used relatively rarely - go for something thats a far more reasonable £10.50. In fact these have proven so popular that the maker edited the webpage with: Very Very Popular with motorcycle / motorbike enthusiasts.http://putnams.co.uk/collections/all-pr ... at-cushionnot pretty.. but who cares about that if it works... and when not in use can be stored away. Obviously if you're camping then it can serve a dual purpose. but at the end of the day these things are only used 'mainly' by people who ride huge distances. if the seat is uncomfy.. or unbearable for much lower distances... like the average commute. or the average 'fun' day out. then its probably a better idea to look at having the seat replaced or rebuilt. or look at your posture... it could easily be that its how your seated rather than the seat itself thats problematic.in general bike seats are thrown together as cheaply as possible and have just one purpose.. to feel 'ok' in the dealership, or at a trade show or remain at least 'bearable' for the hour or two of the usual test ride. even more carefully designed seats can be less than satisfactory over the longer term as they are all designed for the 'average' rider.. and what does 'average' even mean. Although I don't want to have to ride all the way to the rally feeling like someone is trying to shove a plank between my arse cheeks Quote
JoshTimmins Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 I already own cycling shorts and if I'm honest, never even considered wearing them! What doughnut!I'll try them out on the next ride and report back! Quote
