Tango Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 OK. ....so this means that you can ride a bike on a provisional entitlement I think....ie, you can ride a moped without l-plates, but you'll need to complete a CBT to ride a 125 with L-plates. Unless you've passed a specific bike test you'll have do the DAS to ride anything bigger than a 125.Hope that this helps.... Quote
AlanJ Posted May 13, 2016 Author Posted May 13, 2016 Thanks, yes it really helps. So I'm thinking about £1k for DAS? Just want something cheap ish, reliable and a bit of power for the fun times. Don't need a stupidly fast bike, just something to kickstart my midlife crises lol. Suggestions please Quote
bonio Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 About the cost... The DAS+CBT+Theory test should come in at under a grand. Prices depend on where you live, and on how many retakes you're going to need! . If you budget a grand, I'd have thought that give you a bit to spare in case you fail something at some point and have to do the test again. As for a bike, you can pick up older bikes that are still plenty fast enough and in reasonable nick for another grand or so. I'd have thought that anything much under 1000 will probably have something that will need sorting out. You can pay more but there's no need otfor your first bike. You will want to change it within a couple of years anyway. You'll also need some gear. Apart from the helmet, you can pick up good stuff second hand on ebay and be kitted out easily for £150 + whatever you want to pay for a new lid. Quote
AlanJ Posted May 13, 2016 Author Posted May 13, 2016 Cheers for the info it's really useful. I'd kind of budgeted 1k for the test, thinking of a residential? And yeah roughly the same for a bike although I do fancy a 600rr Quote
Valko Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Cheers for the info it's really useful. I'd kind of budgeted 1k for the test, thinking of a residential? And yeah roughly the same for a bike although I do fancy a 600rr My Fazer 600 was £1300 from ebay. The engine is not much different than 600rr, but the position and the seat are much better Quote
AlanJ Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 Ok ok.. Getting giddy now.... Need to do my test and get on 2 wheels Quote
AlanJ Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 So after done thought I think the best option at the moment is to do my cbt and get some experience. A 125 will do for now. Don't want to run before I can walk. Any suggestions on a good 125? I don't really fancy a trials, kinda like the sports style.. But want something comfy ThanksAlan Quote
mozza83 Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Like Bonio says, a grand is over the top for DAS. Where abouts are you looking at getting tuition?Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk Quote
AlanJ Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 If I go for the full DAS then I'm based North west . So can go anywhere really. Think I'd do a residential course if the price was right. Even thought I've ridden bikes in my younger years along with a couple of scooters I'm thinking maybe jumping onto something big and fast might not be the best way forward. Like I said maybe 125 on a cbt.. Get my bike no claims in and then go from there. Can't use car no claims on a bike can I ? Quote
AlanJ Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 Looking at my license it gives the impression I can ride Cat A from 9/1/13 ? Quote
Stu Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Looking at my license it gives the impression I can ride Cat A from 9/1/13 ? the code 79 dictates otherwise it means you can only ride a trike on your car licence 79.03 - restricted to tricycles https://www.gov.uk/driving-licence-codes" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Quote
AlanJ Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 Ah ok.... Although I've seen some cool trikes... Crap for traffic jams tho Quote
Lumor_uk Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 got to be crazy to pay £1,000 for testsI did theory £23CBT £99rode for 1 year no lessonsMod 1 £15Mod 2 £75full bike licence after 2 years. £212 quids in my old muckers, but I had time on my hand I guess at your age you're in a hurry to get things don't before popping your clogs. AlanJ Posted May 15, 2016 Author Posted May 15, 2016 PMSL... I ain't old you piss taker lol.I'm liking your way of doing it... That's pretty cheap and really do-able. Got plenty of time m8.Any good recommendations for a decent 125? Quote
thebendyfox Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 The north west? Give these guys a call and get them to quote you - http://www.roadrider.co.uk Quote
daveyboy9274 Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 I'm sorry to say but riding a 125 is completely different to a big bike , I was going to get experience riding a 125 prior to do it DAS but 125 motorcycles can be more expensive than getting a reasonable big bike. Once you've passed your DAS u have the option to get any bike u choose. Bite the bullet & get the test done u won't regret it !Good luck with whatever choose Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk Quote
Guest Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Skip the 125, do the DAS and jump on a 600. You'll be fine Quote
