Hi guys

I'm about order a ground anchor (Oxford 440) can anyone recommend a chain that'll work well with it and a good one for a bike??

Yh Almax comes frequently when looking up on the internet.. Might just go with Almax altogether both chain and lock

What do you reckon?

Ive got the oxford hardcore chain and padlock myself £60 but now ive seen the almax im thinking of adding another

Can't have too many chains and locks imo. I try to add a security device to the garage each time a new bike comes in; individually some might be suspect, together they are all mighty.

Security is only as good as its weakest link .

No point having best chain padlock or ground anchor ...if the concrete its fixed into can be broken just by levering the ground anchor out

Hi,

I have an Almax chain which is really good and I've used it for years and never worried about theft.

But it seems like thieves are getting more organised and steal bikes and leave the Almax chained wheel.

A wrap around the centre of the bike Almax is a bit too expensive. Is there any other way to use a 1.5metre Almax to lock up the bike instead of just locking it around a single wheel?

Thanks Tim -

I didn't know these existed. They look useful but still would need two locks: one to use the pinch pin to lock around the seat through the rear wheel, and then another chain to lock the chained unit to a pillar or ground anchor.

Thanks

I always start with the basic premise - if thieves don't know the bike is there, then they are unlikely to target it.

this only applies to bikes that are parked off road.. in a shed. garage.. or even - the other side of a garden gate, on the patio.

so just 2 basic rules.

1. never park the bike up on the driveway or kerbside in front of your own house. get it out of sight immediately.. or if you are on your way out.. dont hang about: go.

and

2. when you're on your way home.. keep an eye on your mirrors. ask yourself; am i being followed.. if you have the slightest suspicion that you are. take a small diversion, round the block to be sure. This is better than giving a potential 'spotter' a guided tour that leads directly to your front door. if they have taken the time to follow you home.. its because your bike is on their list and they will be back and they will have it. (professional thieves)

any other security you have naturally follows behind these two very basic rules... I would suggest that other security measures are aimed at opportunists.. or joy rider types.

not professional thieves.. against whom most average bikers don't stand a chance. especially if you advertise the bikes location.. or lead them directly to it.

Those pinch pins look a great idea

i always do this, although most times its obvious because somebody is keeping up with me, and i live in the middle of nowhere

Same here, if there's someone behind me I pass my house and go around the block somewhere up the road.

I never do this because I have insurance, life is too short and if I'm arriving home it's because I'm cold/hungry/thirsty/horny.

They are welcome to my bike while my face is buried in a pizza box.

*Thats not a euphemism.

Poor thieves..they will either be used to share body heat , as sustanance, drained or buggered to death .
